Slaphappy - I haven't had the opportunity to try out any of the valve Drawmer compressors. I've got a solid state one in my rack (Drawmer DL241). I'm fairly new to compressors so I can't really compare but it sounds good to my ears. I think it's going to take me a good few weeks more to get it exactly how (and where) I want it though.
Dood - what pre are you using now, if you don't mind my asking? You could probably ditch it if you get a good channel strip, as SHG said. -
Could just be that he moved the knob from one place to another. Weird.
Not really a problem but like other people have said, it could work out as being quite handy if/when you upgrade the electronics.
Lovely looking instrument btw (apart from the hole). Congrats. -
The comparison guide on the Diago page is quite useful.
I have a Rothwell Stompjuice for 6 of my pedals and a 12V computer power adaptor for my DHA Dual Custom. It all sounds great until I try to take a DI signal out of the back of my preamp - ground loop!
There's no ground loop out of the DI in my pedalboard but it is frustrating. I'm wondering whether something like the Diago would kill the hum. Hmm... -
Yeah, it's very frustrating. I think a decent 1U channel strip would probably strike the best balance between price and quality.
Would the EQ/Compressor go between your pre and power amp? -
There's an SWR Baby Blue for sale in the For Sale section. I'd grab that if I were you.
-
Which tube stop is it exactly? I'll be down for that.

Have to? Get to speak to the stage manager/sound engineer directly. I'm sure they'll understand once you explain about your rig.
-
Errr, I wasn't really thinking about any particular style. When you approach any new style just try to get the rhythmic feel of it right first. The 12 notes are all the same in any style.
What kind of things do you want to play? I could suggest some tunes then. -
I'm pretty sure Simone has left the Bass Cellar. She was the only knowledgeable and helpful person there.
Just go to The Gallery. They have some good secondhand stuff - they might give you a slight discount if you ask nicely. -
Around £10,000? Why does all the great kit have to be so expensive?
I'd love to try out the Drawmer valve multi-band compressor above. -
Get great rhythmic feel with just 1 or 2 notes, then slowly incorporate all the other things you're learning.

You could just take this to a gig along with a power amp and your cabs, in theory. I could find a price for you.
Edit: Hah, it's £1450! But, it's built by the engineer for Decca and is developed from their own studio gear. -
I caught one of Urb's gigs once... He was playing his Warwicks through one of those. I couldn't get over the tone. Great little amp.

You could always get yourself a Neve. I've always thought that Neve is short for "you will NEVEr be able to afford this".
-
You can't argue with that reasoning

Most 1U Channel Strips contain compression and EQ - but you already knew that. I'm sure there's a way to avoid or bypass the preamp stage. A friend of mine is planning on using a 1U Focusrite channel strip as part of a live acoustic guitar rig.
If you want something that is literally just compression and EQ, I'll have to have a look around for you.

They don't make a 4x10 but they do 3x10s. They've actually got a new extra-light range coming out. I think I will have to put an order in soon.
-
Yeah man, in the words of the Madchester crowd "large".
-
Get the Corvette for £250. Unless it's a Rockbass Corvette.
-
Hah, you've quickly changed your tune. Peer pressure at work?

Hah, well, we're in London. I still think I'll pop along to the Jazz Cafe to see you.
I thought I knew the name Groove Cartel. You guys were one of our first myspace friends on a previous band's profile. -

Well done, mate. I'll check out your myspace page when I got home (the music player's blocked at work!). I should be free and should make it down. I'd expect you at my next gig though. ;-) Deal?

Hmm... I'm wary about not taking my own rig to things. Do you DI out of the back of the Thunderfunk?
