1. I really don't think 10 watt LEDS are going to cut it I'm afraid. These are 50 Watt cool whites, we use them as an effect and they do look bright on the photo but we point them straight at the audience from the floor and they don't cause anyone to squint. Think you'll have to get as higher wattage as you can if you want anything useful.
 2. Prefer the second one but the slap one doesn't offend me.
 3.
Note: The site parser thinks I broke the mark-up language text. I didn't but I think that spanning two pages with the multi-quote button might have upset the system.
Goddamit I hate it when the site parser leaps to conclusions. Who the hell does he think he is ?
 4.
Or the ultimate nightmare, left handed AND weird tuning!
Think you'd just have to accept that the gods are angry with you and you are doomed in those circumstances.
 5. Agree with the OP, it's certainly useful if you can play a bit of guitar. I work keys out with the singer on guitar and also the harmonies before we get to the rehearsal stage. Also handy if you're jamming/busking/depping and you can glance at the guitarists fretboard and know where's he's at
 6.
If there was any more a reason to ensure you have a contract for a gig, this is a good one. For future reference, join the MU who offer template contracts to print out for venues to sign prior to playing the gig.
Any form of contract is a good idea, however I'll think pubs will generally raise their eyebrows should a contract land on the mat. We don't use contracts but do very few (2 a year ?) by phone and if that happens it will be followed by a txt to confirm. My preferred method is messenger or email or failing that txt, anything in writing in fact that isn't just one way. All that said the landlady referred to in the OP's post obviously knew the gig was on and was just being an arse. Les
 7.
I am exhausted just reading that! Things youngsters have to do to afford a mortgage these days. I sometimes forget how good I've got it.
Me too. It's not something I'd consider now to be honest but I may seriously have had a look at it years ago. Interestingly as Blue's experience shows this was one of the guy's comments. 9.
Taking the Michael - too little money, too many stipulations and comes across with a bad attitude. Not a chance.
t The guy is getting a bit of flak, but doesn't seem arsed, just wants to get his bands sorted.
 10.
I was guessing that he was looking to pay about £100 a musician a night, so it looks like a decent wage but he is desperate for three pieces to keep the price down. A lot of work for £100, but at least he is being upfront with what he wants...
It would have tepted me when I was younger I think
And to be fair you're not playing to an adoring crowd...Matthew Street is an experience at the best of times...
True. The last time I was there the standard of band was very high.
I am certain that figure is nothing to do with what's paid.
No, it's been put on as a sale/wanted post and a price is required to post.
 11. Copy and paste from a group on my facebook feed, You can do the time pal and it's on Mathew Street, Get your new band up to speed quick Les covers bands needed £1,010,101 Eric's Liverpool Looking for 3 new bands to put in the mix. I have residencies available 7 nights a week in 3 of the busiest bars on Mathew St Liverpool. This is hard work, solid graft for experienced pro's only. I require Trio's with minimum two lead vocals. Guitar Bass Drums. Must be able to play 4 hour sets with no breaks. Backline and PA provided. Songs must be ALL killer NO filler. Please only get in touch if you have a set with at least 80 songs in it and you know the difference. I need everything from The Beatles/Chuck Berry/Elvis to Eminem/Bob Marley to Pharrel/Bruno Mars. Right across the board. No tributes please. No keys please. Nothing that takes more than 10 mins to changeover bands. I already have a strong team of players but I now need more. Pay is fair, For the right bands this is a golden opportunity. Get in touch, send links/video's etc......but please don't just leave a comment asking what the wages are. This is not an open offer, I will be auditioning the bands and going thru the setlists. All my guys have worked for me for years, I am dead fair and run the bands directly. Cheers Ethan Allen
 12.
One of our Mackies (SRM 450 v1) has just died. You haven't still got the one that's alive have you, by any chance?
Sorry Kirky we sold it. When ours was in the shop waiting to be pronounced dead and staying dead we bought an Alto TX12 for about 80 quid to get us though the next few gigs so I had about 4 or 5 gigs running them side by side and to be honest the Alto was so good we decide to not bother with the Mackies anymore, to say I'm pissed off that a supposedly good bit of kit can't be repaired is an understatement. We ended up buying another pair of TX12's for 150 quid and a month or so later I dropped on a pair of TS112's, immaculate and with XLR leads, mains leads and stands for £175. So we now have 3 active monitors and 2 active tops for the sum of £430. Seeing as the Mackies cost us 400 second hand I'm more than pleased. Les
 13. We had Mackies, great but one died and couldn't be fixed. We now use Alto TS112 as tops and 3 Alto TX12's a monitors. Very pleased with them Les
 14.
That's exactly what I do too. My band is a rock covers band so I have a nice, slightly overdrive tone for everything. If the original is played fingerstyle I play it fingerstyle, if it's played with a pick I roll off a bit of treble and use a pick. My one concession to closely replicating a sound is on the one Muse song we play, which needs a synthy fuzz tone.
What bass do you use ? I'm recently on a jazz and I love it. Tends to be both pickups on full and roll the treble off for a plec but I'm toying with the idea of rolling the bridge pickup off to play with a plec hoping that will give me the extra bass I want.
 15. I just have two decent as I can get sounds, one with my fingers and one with a plec and go with that to be honest. Never had any adverse comments or thought that the sound doesn't fit with the song we're covering. Les
 16.
Accept it or not, Its a fact. I have never made a living from playing and now dont need to.
Not sure you have to be making a living at it to want to be paid. I don't make a living at it by any stretch of the imagination but I want paying. I'd walk in to some of the gigs we do, take a look at the postage sized area behind a pillar that we're expected to play in, look at the half cut coked up dicks who've been there since early afternoon and say "nah, not doing this" and go home if I wasn't being paid. Les
 17. Gig was great, apres gig feast was great and 3 rebookings for next year. all in all a result.
 18.
Out of curiosity, exposed to what? Blue
Sorry, didn't mean to be cryptic. I mean I wouldn't want to struggle to gig because someone who isn't actually in the band couldn't make it. Les
 19.
It would be tough Les, no one else in the band knows how to run sound & lights or sell merch. I don't think the musicians would even know how, when or who to ask for payment. Blue
Interesting. To each their own but I would feel exposed in that situation. cheers Les
 20.
Hi Les. Yes, but not the same rate as the on stage talent. The band like any band has strengths and weaknesses. For a primarily bar band business structure is our strength. Blue
Could you gig without them Blue ?
 21.
However the spouses all play important roles in the band from sound and lights, set up and tear down to marketing and payroll. Blue
Out of curiosity Blue are they paid for this ? Les
 22. I've had an Affinity P bass and it was ok cos I only paid 50 quid for it but it felt cheap even though in all honesty it did sound fine, I also have another bitsa P with a Squire standard Jazz neck on and that's a decent bass. Bought a VM Jazz a month ago and it's really good, it's become my gigging bass. The difference between the Affinity range and the VM range is large. As above avoid the affinity range if the VM is within your budget, I paid 180 for mine second hand but immaculate with an aluminium hard case, well impressed. Les
 23.
why is it always one or the other - why not do the back flips and hit the correct notes?
That would be marvelous.
 24. Not sure the odd fluff really matters as long as it's glossed over. It happens, see Levins tale above. It's about attitude and confidence, I'd rather see a band jumping about or playing standing on the tables and generally interacting with the crowd than watch a static neck gazer who doesn't look up but doesn't make a mistake. It's a live show, it may be more important to do the back flip rather than hit the right note. Les
 25. Agreed I'm not sure the punters would be able to tell you what makes the difference, but they'll certainly notice the difference between a decent band and a great band even if they can't put their finger on why. Les
