1. Whittles in Oldham is doing Thursday nights, 3 bands a night doing 30 minute sets and it's paid. We do a couple of Fridays a year there, it's a good place with a good PA and engineer. Just a heads up. Les
 2.
The gig every time! In fact, I'd take an average pub gig over steamy sex any time. It lasts longer and pays better!
Maybe you should charge more for sex then Dave
 3.
So in essence hardly any money from the 9k goes to the people in need. You've just worked your socks off gigging, giving up your free time and effort to pay somebody else's wages. I've no problem with covering costs, but giving such a low percentage of the 9k doesn't help in the spirit it was meant to and how all those who helped raise it hoped out would be.
Agreed but you were referring to what happens to the actual 200 quid. That's what I responded to.
 4.
Sad thing is, out of that £200 a big percentage of that will be used to pay running costs at the charity, so they might end up with only a small percentage of that.
Then that pays £200 of their running costs, it's not really sad it's just a fact of running a large organisation, people want paying for working for them and the rent needs to be paid.
 5. It's sharp, but legal. We do the odd charity on the understanding that the venue pays our fee to us on the day, we will then hand it over to the charity.
 6.
11 gigs would also be an ok exception ,so would 7 months. Blue
Not for me I'm afraid.
 7.
I think if you are prepared to put the work in people will come to you,
Very much this, This thread is about starting "your own" band. You need to lead from the front.
 8. I would probably draw from people I know as much as poss. Find a guitard who can sing a bit, maybe 2 guitards and share the vocals with him/them. Sort drummer out. Have meeting to sort rough idea of set out, I would impose my will a bit on this as I want it audience focused Sort keys out so no one is struggling to sing, bin songs that can't be altered well Buy an active sub (or2) to go with my active tops and desk so I know the PA is sorted and I own it.. 3 or 4 rehearsals in quick succession. Put 1st few gigs in about month after we're all happy with the way it's going to focus the bands attention Do gig ready or not, There'd be enough experience in the band not to fall apart if the wheels come loose a bit. Take rebooking form 1st gig move on to second gig and polish it continually.
 9. Doesn't fit the donor body, which is a no name P, neither does the Squier P neck that came off my jam night bass when I put the Squier Jazz neck on. The neck pocket is too narrow for both of them so I'm not blaming the new neck for that. Need to source another P body, but a Squier so I know it'll slot in.
 10.
looks great! I have an old battered Squier Jazz that despite being *just* and "old battered Squier" it's just a lot of fun to play. The thing is the neck... 1) it's rosewood and 2) it's a Jazz neck. I much prefer maple and Precision necks... are you planning to keep your Squier Precision neck? If you'd like to sell it, send me a PM
Will pm you tomorrow pal, getting ready for tonights gig, I actually have 2 for you to choose from cos' this is the second P I''ve changed the neck on. Les
 11.
Looks ok in the pictures, what do you think of it?
Looks great to be honest, fret edges are perhaps a little sharp. Assuming it fits ok I can't fault it for the price.
I have been thinking getting one of these myself. How much did it eventually cost you and how long until it arrived?
I paid 29 quid delivered, it took 5 days to get here and I didn't pay any customs charges etc, just the 29 earthpounds.
 12.
email? Harsh!
Dispicable, not got a pair of balls between them.
 13. I seem to manage ok but if need be I will sacrifice the bass line to get the harmony in. Sometimes thought the bass line is vital, we do The Chain by Fleetwood Mac and once we are into the formula one bit at full tilt there's no way I can sing the harmony over the chains will keep us together bit. Hats off to anyone who can cos' I've tried and I've tried.
 14. 2 for me. I'm an ok player but am more concerned with the entertainment value of the band. Today's band work was to sort a dep out for Friday after the death of a band mates family member.
 15.
can you get blocked / bound necks too ?
Didn't see any when I was searching, not at the price point I was looking at.
 16. I've pulled the trigger lads. I'll post back here when it arrives.
 17. Thinking of this one lads, what do you think ? Also, anyone any idea how much of a beasting I'll get from customs on this ? 18.
I'm also interested to know if they are any good
Looks like I'll get to be the BC guinea pig then.
You could spend a lot less quids and buy some glasspaper and re-shape the baseball bat more to your liking.
Would be a hell of a sanding job to get the nut width down to that of a jazz, which is the bit I like.
 19.
Where can you get a neck for 30 shimblats?
There's loads Tom, just do an ebay search for bass guitar neck.
I like your thinking. It leaves more cash available for kebabs.
This is my reasoning.
 20. Chucked a squire jazz neck on a squire P and am pleased with it as the P neck is just a bit fat for me and I use it at my jamnght were I'm the house bass player. Have another P that sounds great but the neck is half a bassball bat. I don't need this bass but I like tinkering so I don't mind chucking 30 quid at a neck. Would I be better chucking my 30 on the fire ? Or are they playable ? Ta Les
 21. I have come across this with chains on the receipt they ask you to sign for the money, I've just ignored it and filled the rest in.
 22.
For me rehersal should be something you really look forward to. The challenge of learning new songs, getting all the dynamics in, getting right and having a laugh. Once band members say they don't want to reherse I get worried that it's all about to collapse, and cant understand why they wouldn't want to reherse.
We do 60 gigs a year so rehearsing for the sake of it would break the camels back with familys etc. For me it's a chore but I'm happy to do if it's needed. We are actually rehearsing tomorrow as we have a new dep drummer we need to get up to speed for Saturday. Les
 23. I feel the OP has got a bit of a rough deal to be honest. We're a band that doesn't practise often at all but a new member would get as many as they needed to to get up to speed. Like many who've posted previously the parctise to gig ratio has to be seriously low for us but leaving somebody floundering/struggling or pissed off enough to leave is a waste of everyones time. Les
 24. Unfortunately my mums deteriorating health and gig commitments mean I'm not going to be able to make this I'm afraid
