I've nothing interesting amp wise but I'll bring a 79 Musicman Stingray to sit with funkgods 79 sabre and a 68 Fender Mustang. Can also bring my Stagg Electric Upright (with a decent set of strings on) if anyone is interested as there seems to be a lot of curiosity about these from 1st timers to upright bass ? There may even be someone there who can play it Line 6 G-30 wireless if any body wants to try before they buy as well ? Will also chuck the Berhinger BDI 21 in just in case anyone is an unbeliever in this sub 25 quid piece of marvelousness.
. If my bass pedal fails, there's not bass drum. I'd do my best on the floor tom, probably.
Strangely we actually have a spare bass drum pedal in the stand bag.

Make sure you take money with you for the kebab at the end of the night.

Two acoustics, one mandolin, three electrics and one bass on our stage tonight, I managed to knock one of the acoustics and the mandolin over in one fell swoop in my hurry to get my vampire teeth out for "Bad Things" cos' I'd forgotten to get them out of my case before hand,
Hi folks, Are these Ampeg combo's any good ? Are they loud enough for gigging etc.. Cheers Wan...
Hi Wan I actually have one. I had a problem at a gig (it lost volume} about a year ago and just took it out the trailer and chucked it in the living room and never looked at it cos' I have a few combo's available. And a bit of laziness on my part if I'm honest. Fired it up the other day as I'm the house bass player at a jam night restarting next Wednesday and need an amp to leave there and after a fiddle/twist with all the knobs it's working again. Think the "style" knob was a bit bolloxed but it seems ok now so I'm going to use it. I liked it to be honest, thought it sounded decent, liked the features, DI pre/post, XLR and jack, and it's quite light and on castors. As for loudness well I only monitor on stage as the PA does the work but it will be all I'm using at the jam night and I think it will be up to it. Anyway the upshot of that long winded reply is that if you want to hear it/try it you're in Cheshire and the jam night is in Ashton In Makerfield so you'd be more than welcome to have a play with it or indeed try it in anger with the band. £100 in your pocket and empty or £30 and packed?
Les replied to skidder652003's topic in General Discussion
It would have to be the money I'm afraid. I couldn't enjoy a ram packed gig full of punters drinking and having a ball without thinking "Why is this tw@t only paying us a hundred quid" -

I always go for medium scale strings because of the Mustangs through body stringing but I'm always surprised at the amount I have to cut off. Does anyone just use short scale strings on their Mustang ? Short scale strings are easier to find and are often cheaper so fancy trying them ta Les
I am not allowed to create extra subforums, so I will have to submit your suggestion to the admin/global mods team.
I thought you were omnipotent
The threads in the Gigs forum usually don't need much discussion, so the vast majority tend to consist of one post. In that respect, the forum is one long list, and can be read as such, or searched through using the search function in the top right-hand corner.
It is a good resource that is very underused. Would probably be more use to people looking for a band if it good be divided into areas like North West,South East etc. Would that be a lot of work to do bluejay ?
I can't fathom out how anyone could think this was remotely acceptable. A quick email or text would have saved me a lot of hassle!
It's not acceptable, in any walk of life. Looks like you dodged a bullet with that band.

You already know that this isn't for you in the long term. Untill something else comes along pass on your experience and fuel their enthusiasm. See what you can build, and when the time comes for you to move on if you've left them a better band for the new bass player to join I think you'll have done a worthwhile thing. Good luck Les

Well done funkgod for trying to get a grip of this. I'm up for it, perhaps the next move is get a couple of dates that are available and put them here, Then pick the one that most are free for. maybe a fiver deposit paypaled to funkgod would be a good idea if you decide you're up for it ? That way if it falls flat theres no cost to the organiser. Les

I've known many great ̶d̶i̶c̶k̶h̶e̶a̶d̶ flakey muso's such as the ones aluded to in this thread and I no longer suffer them, regardless of nice guyness and muscal ability. If your band is a commercial entity the way the band conducts itself and it's business has a massive effect on it's success. It's not all about the bit onstage. Steve Vai would be no good to you if he couldn't get his ass to a gig. Ruthless Of Wigan.
Google Calendar and group texts. Each person is responsible for making sure the calendar up to date with their unavailability. When we get offered dates, whoever gets the message texts the rest to confirm availability. Once confirmed, it goes into the calendar and once it's in, it's sacrosanct.
Why do you have to txt to confirm availability if "Each person is responsible for making sure the calendar up to date with their unavailability." ?
