4-piece band + backing tracks for guitarist. Hmmmm...
Les replied to solo4652's topic in General Discussion
Did it years ago. It's not for me now but the public generally gets what the public deserves so hey ho why not ? -
You can switch between mono and stereo operating modes - so even if you just plug in one cable, it sums to monos and comes out left and right in your ear buds.
Didn't work. Only got it in one ear. As per usual I was testing new kit at a gig so didn't have time to mess about. It was the Gear4Music WMP 200 (Takstar rebranded) and as far as I can see there is no mono/stereo setting to alter. I'm assuming a lead with a mono jack wired to a stereo one sending the same signal to both sides should deal with this ? Did revisit the "In ear monitors for pubs" thread to question colgraff as he had the same system. Totally dismayed and saddened to find he had passed away.

Just got home early from our gig tonight and I'm not a happy bunny!

I suppose these things do happen from time to time but I'd be more annoyed about my band mates wimping on thisthan the pub arsing about to be honest. -
The only affordable one I've found is the Fender one. It's not as good as my Ritters protection wise but it's ok for car travel. I keep my Mustang in it. Les

Thank you

Still looking at IEM but a quick question, most, even the cheap ones seem to be stereo. I'd have though the monitor sends on most desks were mono but I'm not 100% on this. I understand you could use 2 aux's to get a stereo mix but how do you achieve mono ? If you just chuck a mono lead from your aux to your transmitter do you just end up with it in one ear ? Sorry if I'm being daft here.

If it interferes with the flow of the show it's not on. We did have this problem with guitarist a while ago. He is no longer our guitarist.

Those of you who don't gig are missing out on the band kebab at the end of the night. My heart bleeds for you unfortunates.

The guys ability to sing and play together is outstanding
That's not an answer. You can always hear the PA, even from behind it. When you're using IEM's you're shut off from all of the FOH so how do you maintain a balance out front through out the gig?
No, it wasn't a good answer, sorry. If you have no one riding the desk out front then you're in the situation my band ( and I would imagine a lot of bands) are in. It's a soundcheck with someone out front doing the balances then it's a set and forget situation. If people are then altering their onstage volumes that does manifest as a mix problem but in reality it's a discipline issue.
To all using IEM's. Who is balancing the FOH throughout the gig while you're wearing them?
Who is balancing FOH from behind the PA when your not wearing them ?

I suppose most of us get to the standard that we need to be for what we aspire to do then the drive to improve, and indeed the pressure to improve lessens.

Things To Think About Before Joining A Working Band
Les replied to blue's topic in General Discussion
My last band comprised a father and son + a bassist (dangerous territory as you will always be outvoted and they stick together like glue).
Was wondering why you'd bagged it Ian. Looking forward ti catching the new one. -
Lastly the law is almost certainly not on your side when it comes inflicting injuries on someone trying to get on stage.
This is my question. I'm not talking a self defence scenario as that's a whole different kettle of violence. It's more how far and how much force could be reasonably used to prevent your property being damaged. Although I'm well impressed with the basscahat massifs propensity for violence, it has to be said

Hasn't happened for ages and in fairness most of the places we play are usually full of nicely behaved punters but practically none of them have any security, other than the landlord. Last night we had a couple of incidents, youngish bloke with a few down him jumped up next to the singer and jigged about smiling to his mates at how cool he was. We finished the song and the singer said to him off mic "you'll have to get down now" which he did. Next one was a bloke pissed out of shape but harmless I think, we'd come off after the first spasm and he was well into it, shaking my hand but unfortunately speaking in tongues so I just smiled and wandered off, turn round and he's stood on the stage ! I just grabbed his arm and told him he couldn't be up there and led him away, no probs at all, like I say hammered but nice enough. We're older and calmer these days so can pretty much handle any of the weird things gigging throuws at you in a easy going manner. It got me thinking though, if someone is becoming a real problem can you actually lay hands on them ? I don't mean knock em' straight out as tempting as that might be, but physically eject them from the stage and maybe the venue ? Les

Pleased to report that both tuner and tail performed faultlessly at last nights gig.
Broken. Already. Pressed on. Nothing happened. I turned it round and - I swear - very carefully - moved the swivelly bit out of the way to look at the battery compartment. Aaaaand it snapped off.
Can you post a picture of the dead one and we can all come up with smartarse solutions for fixing it

Looks like the clamp is a screw on affair, so a turn or so to the left loosens it enough to swivel properly, a turn to the right before it's slightly loosened is, alas, tears before bedtime.

It's landed, here in the centre of the known universe.
