1.
I guess you guys that play longer are getting more than our standard £600 for these gigs?
Really ? Anyway, back on topic, 2 x 45/50 mins, tonights start was 9.45 and 11 for the second spasm.
2. Having everything through the PA has no bearing on how loud the band is.
3. Second one is a start up and pretty much tells you most of what you need to know to see if you fancy it. First one is "we are" but doesn't tell you the name of the band. I'm not interested in mystery bands, I want to see your video's, photo's, set list and web site before I'd pick up the phone. In return I'd have no problem sending you video/photo's etc.
4.
All very interesting and useful comments. We do our own sound and are well know for being loud. It is hard to get a mosh pit going at low volume.
If that's what the punters need then give it to them, you don't have to share their pain though.
I do like the idea of dropping the on stage volume and using the subs to reduce everything on stage and make things just that bit easier to hear.
If you've never experienced this it's a revelation
I suppose very little apart from the bass drum goes through the subs so they would be working harder but the cross over should leave the bass in the subs only.
You'd be surprised how much of your bass sound is sent to the tops by the crossover.
5. I really don't get this view that if you have nobody FOH riding the desk then putting it all through the PA is a waste of time. It's obviously better but if there isn't one then the idea of someone going out front to check the balance works exactly the same for both scenarios. I'd hazard a guess that those of us advocating a quieter on stage sound also have some vocal duties to perform as well.
6. In, let the PA do the work and have a nice quiet onstage sound .
7. 14 years, then got tricked into joining another band, still at it 6 years later.
8. I had enough, so I stopped for 14 years. Then I came back. It happens to a lot of muso's I think. Whatever you decide to do right now isn't a forever thing, it's a now thing. You can change it any time you want. Good luck Les
9. Do the input gains on the speakers have a meter or a clip light ?
10. Mustang in action
11. Definitely worth persevering and having both techniques available.
12. Like Casapete I too have a Stingray but for the last 6 years gigging I've used my Mustang, so I suppose in reality I've become a short scale only player.
13. This thread is just fab, well done.
14.
Think I might be having one of those.
GAK have them in for next day, but I'm waiting for theyellowcar's review before I pull the trigger
15. Nothing on earth would look cooler than that and a silver spandex jump suit.
16. I may be being a bit thick here but is this in the flesh or online ?
17. Same thing for me on 19th of this month. Back at Styal beer festival. Can't wait.
18.
Ringing out basically means turning up an open vocal mic till it starts to feedback, then identifying what frequency it's feeding back at, and ducking that frequency. Repeat a few times till you are sure it isn't going to feed even at silly volumes. Then turn it down a bit : ) Same method for FOH or mons
In the applicatrion I'm talking about ie monitors, we have 3 vox 3 monitors, singer has his own mix, the guitarist and I share a mix. Would we do this ringing out process on each individual mic or turn up all 3 and let the destroyer loose on them ? thanks Les
19. Thanks all, and Kev thanks a lot for that offer. I think I'll take a punt on the strength of what you've all said. Les
20. These things seem to be as cheap as chips second hand so I'm thinking of giving one a whirl on the monitors. Anyone got any first hand experience ? ta Les
21. You buy your own gear and maintain it. The PA is a difficult situation but as far as I'm concerned re my roll as bass player in the band, I come with my own maintained bass(es) and amplification.
22.
Has the drummer just set fire to your head with his sticks?! There is smoke coming from you and everything!
Yes, I'm definately alight there Thankfully it's been corrected for the print run
23. New publicity poster. I'm the one with the bass
24. As I own a 68 version of the above would you mind telling me how much it went for ? Les
