1. I'm flabbergasted they even asked you. we're using a dep drummer this Saturday and he's rehearsing with us on Wednesday, no way will he be asked to contribute to the cost of the rehearsal room.
2. My bands PLI is from these people. http://www.ampband.co.uk/ Quite cheap I thought and the cover seems good. But we haven't put it to the test. Les
3. Totally agree with the OP. A (talented) guitarist in one of my bands picked up one of my basses and did a really impressive tuneful (guitar) solo on it, I was impressed. He still knocked on my door when he needed a bassline recording for one of his tracks though, by his own admission he can't think like a bass player.
4. Don't do it, one day you'll need a fretted bass and you rue selling the Warwick. You don't say how many you've got but if you only have one fretted and one fretless than your not exactly overarmed by BC standards.
5. I play more guitar than bass to be honest but I know I'm a better bass player than guitarist so that's what I end up playing in bands. But I feel the time may be coming for me to play guitar again in a band situation soon. Just something I need to get out of my system I think.
6. Just ordered a BDI21 mainly out of curiosity to be honest as knowing me it'll end up being the third pedal I own and never use. I kinda intend to have it on permanent if it sounds ok but rather than have it on the floor I want to chuck it on top of my combo out of the way. I know I can plug my bass into it then plug in to the amp but if I can use the FX loop I won't tug it off my amp to fall to it's doom (if what I read about it's construction is anything to go on) as I'll be plugged into the amp as normal. Is this OK or do I really need to go instrument-pedal-amp ?? Never really found a use for the FX send return before but in my limited understanding of it I think what I describe above should work. But I'll stand to be corrected by those in the know. Ta Les
7. It seemed to be quite the thing to wear your bass high years ago. When I was dragged kicking and screaming out of a 14 year retirement about 6 years ago I duly dragged my Ray from under the bed, slung it on at the rehearsal and the guitarist looked at me and said "we're not fu**ing Kajagoogoo you know"
8. To be honest Marvin, this sounds much more hassle than it's worth.
9.
Impressive and, first and foremost, very, very cool. .
Yes, it is impressive and that I think is my main point. I'm astounded by what you can achieve these days for very little money, as per the title of the post, for 197 and a half of your earth pounds (plus the cost of a lead I suppose) you can be the bass player in a gigging band and be paid for your services. And, yes, I too think it's quite cool. The audience in reality doesn't have a clue what your playing and my girlfriend would certainly pick the EB-0 out as being the prettiest of my basses . But more importantly I'm happy with the performance and so is my band. If either of these items didn't cut it they wouldn't get stage space. But they do.
10.
Antoria EB-3 copy - £45 Carlsboro Cobra - £50. Steve
Can't see anyone bettering that Steve, Is that your actual gigging set up ? Les
11. Although I'm fortunate enough to have nice things to fall back on my current live rig stands me at £197.50. I'm strangely proud of that for some weird reason and I'm quite satisfied with it's performance too. Admittedly that doesn't include leads, mics, stands, tuners etc, but my s/h Mag 300 combo cost me £135 and my s/h Epi EB 0 cost me £62.50. Anyone else happily budget bassing ??? Les
12. You should get something usable out of that if your just putting vox through it, BUT, watch your volume, that's not a hugely powerful vocal PA and if you have a thousand watt head and an 8 x 10 and the guitarist has a Marshall stack and neither of you know the volume knob goes both ways, your screwed. Yamaha are currently running a PA roadshow, don't know where the other dates are but you should be able to find them online, I went to the one at PMT Manchester, it was basic but I dragged my singer rhythm guitarist along and now he understands gain , so was well worth it just for that. If it's anywhere near you it would be a good place for you to start and it was free, Les
13. Done, when I win it the first grand in cash gets it. cos' it's got too many strings and knobs for me.
14. Me too.
15. Would love to do this. Can you expand on the how it's done front ? or did you just leave it to the engineer ? I'm assuming you need enough aux's on the desk for each member to have their own. How are they amplified ? ta Les
16.
I'm just pointing out that I'm surprised that so many musicians don't want to muck in, and get to know the guys they playing with.
Mucking in and getting to know each other just means spending time together, be that rehearsing four times a month and gigging once a month or rehearsing once a month and gigging four times a month. I would argue that the extra focus of a gig makes for more of a bonding experience.
17. I enjoy rehearsing, but only if it's needed, not just for the sake of it. In the two examples you gave I can't really see either of them being mercenary about money, they just seem to want to gig a lot. I would hate to be trapped in a band that just rehearses and never seems to get to the gigging stage. And when I play live I want to be paid for it. Les
18. Anyone else think he's on the wrong side of the stage ?
19.
I placed an order yesterday (Friday) and no news whatsoever yet (Sunday, early morning). I guess they do respect their weekends. Can anyone confirm? Nothing gets done on weekends? No worries from me, just curious.
I can't remember the email response/contact timescale to be honest but I ordered my guitar on a Saturday and it arrived on the Wednesday.
20. I ordered my Takamine classical from them. It arrived in very good time in perfect condition. Would use them again.
21.
Wasn't Wrapped Around Your Finger sublime!
Spooky It must have been cos' I watched that vid then googled the chords to it and have been crucifying it for an hour on my acoustic.
22. Fab vid, a playing bass whilst singing masterclass, as always with Sting.
23. Marvin, there are loads of places you can get them done. If, however, you're looking for personal recommendations it's a plus 1 from me for the guy BassBunny sent you the link to. He did ours, and when he depped for us he rolled up with one with our name on it and" plus Alyerpal" fitted to his kick drum, Top bloke and good work.
24. Any one fitted a push pull coil split to one of these ?
