3. I haven't done a lot of gigs with an engineer but the ones I've had seem to be perfectly reasonable and did a good job. I'm not terribly fussy though, I just plug in and as soon as it sounds like a bass guitar that's ok for me. For those who are fussy and have their own sound, I'm not sure how a guy you've never met and has never heard you before is going to get your sound to your satisfaction, unless you have a radio lead and are stood next to him at the desk directing operations for however long it takes. That sounds like a big ask for an engineer with 4 or 5 bands to soundcheck.
4. Cool, my local shop is 5 minutes walk away and a mate who I go drinking with owns it.
5. Feckin awesome . Talk about giving the punters what they want !! Love it.
6.
as we play drinking songs for drunk people and we had put the punter in a badger suit
Watching your band live has now made it to my "bucket list"
7. Can't the guitarist/drummer/Japanese nasal flute player/oboist in your band take it for you if they are not working Saturday morning ?
8. All sorted . Thanks for everyone's input and special mention to xilddx for checking my attempt and pronouncing it seaworthy. Unfortunately I can't get the file in to this post for general discussion/perusal but if anyone wants a copy to save doing their own pm me and I'll mail it over. Les
9. Tried it. Using attach files I attach bandriskassess.doc or bandriskassess.pdf and all looks good till I preview the post and then even I can't open it from here.
10. Now I can't figure a way to post it on here It's a word doc if anyone can help.
11. Christ I'm tying myself in knots here, page seven hundred and sixty eight is dealing with a terrorist attack and the four minute warning of a nuclear strike Better get back to the basics
12. Yes, I am taking it seriously to be fair. I'm just not 100 per cent sure the venue is ever going to see it to be honest, I think it may just be the agent asking for it. Will nail it together and put it up here for an opinion. We're quite a long in the tooth easy going, will always find a solution band, but what happens if the venue haven't done any of the things you would expect ? Like no security to keep the public off the stage and out of harms way ? Can I just waive my risk assessment and say we won't be playing, give us our fee and we'll get out of your hair ?
13. Thanks for the help everyone. Gonna use one of the templates and knock one up. Sort of assuming that other than our equipment being safe and PAT tested everything other than our own house keeping on stage, like security to keep the public off, electrical supply etc is going to be he managements part. To be honest I think if I downloaded the NASA space walk risk assessment and sent it to the agent it would just be filed and not read.
14. Nige, all it says is "Please forward your insurance cover and risk assessment" It also says if outdoors then venue to provide adequate PA (ours won't cope) and if indoors band to provide PA. Also if we are prevented from performing due to inclement weather then the fee will still be payable. Thats it really. Les
15. Thanks Nige, the singer's coming here in a few minutes and it was on the contract apparently so I'll quizz him and get back to you.
16. Thanks guys Nige, it's the agent who has booked us for this event http://www.guysthatchedhamlet.co.uk/WHATSON/390 who wants it. Les
17. Anyone got one I could pinch and tweak for our purposes. It's an outdoor gig. We're under cover (marquee thingy) but the punters aren't. Ta Les
18. I have to say I have never taken a backup bass with me in 35 years of playing, nor Have I ever needed one.
19. Thanks for your input Bert. I guess should really try the combo on it's own before I start decrying it. I've just read about so many people saying it's fine for a band situation I was just surprised at the amount of master volume I had to use, even with an extension cab. Les
20. 25 songs for an audition is crazy. I would have fired them off the instant that message came through.
21. Long story but was using a 180 mag with a 15 speaker but it wasn't quite enough. So chucked a Trace 2 x10 on as an extension speaker and all was fine. Just bought a mag 300 combo thinking it would be ok on it's own, Now I haven't used it on it's own yet cos' the 2 x 10 extension cab was in the trailer but I'm pushing quite a high master volume even with the extension cab. Is anyone managing with this combo on it's own ?? We do have PA support but I'm not sure this combo is going to be enough stand alone. Les
22.
An occasional glance at my fretting hand if it's moving up past the 12th fret, but other than that, I don't generally bother.
There's a 12th fret ???
23.
personally I'd love a way to enforce those rules from a bar stool!
A rifle ?
24. No, can't find my vernier, will borrow one tonite hopefully. Les
