The diameter's too big oh well, one down.

Your defo not being funny, you should have been consulted. It's either as you say, bad gig etiquette or if the other bass players weren't told they needed their own amps, bad organisation. Like Dan said, maybe they thought it was provided ? I don't do many multi band gigs but I have one coming up at a beer festival and I have been told in advance that I need my backline, but PA is provided. So there's no confusion, but as we're first on I'm going to try and get hold of the bass player on last and ask if I can use his rig, but I wouldn't dream of just assuming I can. If I was the last band on I would have no problem offering my rig, it just seems to make sense.

Thanks Matt, it's been a pain trying to research this on the net but the one set of specs someone mentioned was the VS50 II trem, and to be honest it looks like it is, as the hole for the trem arm has a small allen key grub screw on the side. (I've only just spotted it after watching a vid) So I've just ordered the bar for that. Here's hoping. Les
Don't expect much in the way of comms as the guy processes tons of sales and the in-transit time can be glacially slow. But it's all got here in the end and it's all been good value for money.
Thanks guys, it's comms I want to be honest cos' I can't find out what arm I need. Might just go for the standard push in arm and see, like I said it's not very dear.

Recently bought a Cort M700 for a song. It has a Wilkinson trem on it but the guy couldn't find the trem arm. After a bit of research I think i need the push in one 5mm. Has anyone got any experience of the guitar or Wilkinson trems ? It's not the end of the world if I get the wrong one as they aren't too expensive but any advice appreciated. Ta Les

Hi all, I thought I'd revisit this and finish off with the happy ending This is our new guy Mick on his first gig with my bar room brawl band. As an interesting aside, with the exception of me, everyone in the bands first instrument is drums . So apologies to those of you seeking drummers, I'm afraid I seem to have them all. Hope everyone else who was suffering in this thread got their happy ending too. Les
I managed to resist slapping entirely. I'm proud of that
I'm sure there'e quite a few of us on here who are proud of you too for that.

Go for it ! What could possibly go wrong ?

Make sure you get the right scale strings, no idea what the Hofner uses but my short scale Mustang needs medium scale strings cos' of it's through body stringing.
I'm looking in particular at the Squier Vintage Modified SS Jaguar. Has anyone else made the switch to Short scale. Your thoughts please
I would be interested in your review if you go down the Squier Jag route as I'm considering one. In answer to you question I find my Mustang much lighter than my Stingray, but I don't know the actual difference in weight as I've never weighed them. Les

To be honest Tommy, I've read all the responses and I really don't know what I'd do in this situation. I'm just glad I'm not facing it. I know this is no help whatsoever but I thought I'd just sympathise cos' I'd have the same qualms if we were playing there on Saturday. Les

I saw that and the thread on here, sort of enjoyed them both. Think he's brought everything he gets on himself to be honest.

I have no problem with you putting a Fender logo on your bass if that's what you want to do, but if I was nattering to you at a gig I'd think you way cooler if it had a funny logo in the Fender style on your obviously non fender bass.

To be honest, just do the sums and make a business decision. It's not worth getting worked up about.

Afraid I never pick a bass up unless I'm gigging, learning a new song or rehearsing. That can go from no hours to a fair few depending on the week.
Just out of interest, how did you tell the unsuccessful applicants they hadn't got in?
To be honest I didn't. I was going on holiday the following morning so it was left to the singer. I have no idea how he told them but he would have been diplomatic. Apparently one of the guys (who I have known for a long time, and to be fair he can play) was quite surprised he didn't get it. Jaqueslemc, Yes it's a strange thing bottle, the other guy who didn't get the job told me when we were having a natter after the audition and I was telling him of the difficulties getting people to actually show up that he very nearly rang to pull out cos' he was nervous about the whole thing. Strangely that afternoon I'd auditioned for an established tribute band cos' I could see the end in sight for our band the way things were going. I got the job, but when they sent me the gig list there was just nowhere near enough work in the diary, plus I had some misgivings about the band, so I knocked it back, just told them the truth, they understood and admitted work had been a struggle for a while now, but I guess that's the nature of the scene at the moment.

First rehearsal with the new guy last night, went well, nine songs that in all honesty were giggable, think this is going to work out

That must have been painful for the buyer, I'm on the lookout for one of those Artcore's but although I am left handed I play bass right handed so wouldn't be looking to pay that much second hand, shame, they seem to go for £180-250 in the right handed version.
AND ONE QUESTION PLEASE I have a Gibson hard case but please does. anyone know where I can get a good quality gig bag for the short scale SG bass (SKB semi-hard gig case or similar) They all seem to be either long scale or poor quality or can't accomodate the "two a side" tuner configuration; any suggestions greatly appreciated!!
A couple of years ago I searched the entire universe utilising both time machines and wormholes and couldn't find one. In the end i bought a high quality Ritter long scale bag and chucked my mustang in, it doesn't move about and feels quite well protected, also the bag will take my Stingray should I feel the need.

Update 1 out of 3 guitarists last night, nice bloke, not for us. Today was looking better. All 3 rang to confirm. Then I got this, by fu**in txt, the tw*t One hour and six minutes before his audition. "Hi Les, sorry it's such short notice but I'm not gunna be able to make it tonight, sorry to have wasted your time, and best of luck with your search. Kev" He was booked in for 7pm. I got his txt at5.54pm. The other 2 turned up and had learned the stuff, one was ok (I've actually known him for years) but not right. The last one was fu**in great. Think he's the one but to be honest I've just lost faith and am waiting for him to either say no, or say yes, then turn into some weirdo. This is pants. It's not what being in a band was meant to be. 1969 Fender Mustang and a 1979 pre EB Stingray coming soon to the for sale section I think. Les
