1. Thanks for your input Bremen, not averse to chucking a bit of money at a decent preamp if thats gonna do the trick, it's monitoring without bringing another rig that seems to be the problem,
2. Took my new, to me, Stagg EUB to yesterdays gig, used it on 4 numbers, had a blast and it lends a nice visual impact to the band, but... singing- apart from finding myself 4 feet away from my mic stand when I should have been singing and no way to get there in time , I guess I'm used to just walking up to it with my bass round my neck, I found it quite awkward. It's probably just practise and finding a position that suits but it seemed to be in the way and I ended up singing into the side of my mic. Am I missing anything obvious or do I just need to keep jigging about till I find something that works ? Sound- not good enough. I'm using an Ashdown 180 15'' combo with a Trace 2 x 10 extension cab DI'ed into the PA (post eq, there's no option) and I like the sound I get with my Mustang, I chucked the EUB into it and couldn't really get a sound I was happy with without altering everything, and I don't really want to do that cos' the EUB is a "feature" not the bands main bass supplier. I know it's not a double bass and I'm not expecting to emulate one, just a decent bass kind of sound will suffice. The options I have without altering the knobs are 3 buttons, deep, bright and eq in or out (took the eq out and it was better). There is a passive and active input, the Mustang goes into the passive and I though the Stagg might be ok if I chucked it into the active input cos' it's quite a decent signal, but it wasn't hot enough. I've scavenged a 6band eq pedal from the singer and I'm going to try that out, it also has a level slider on it, but I'm unsure if this will boost signal if required or it just cuts, I have the option of DI'ing the EUB into the desk cos' we have enough channels, but I'd have to monitor it thru my rig and that is also DI'ed so I'm not sure of the ramifications of doing this. Lastly , am I right in thinking I can plug into the effects return and bypass the amps tone controls ? How do you guy's who are doubling with a bass guitar do it ? Many thanks Les
3. To be honest your gonna struggle to get anything better than a 58 without throwing money at it. There are quite a few second hand bargains to be had. As has been said before, they're rugged and fit for purpose.
4. Sounds like you were more gig ready than them. If nothing else it's given your confidence a deserved boost, Auditions are a two way street, you're auditioning them as much as they're auditioning you, and they failed the audition.
5. I must have been napping cos' I didn't even know about this system. What an excellent idea. Busy looking at the options, just frightened to ask the price.
6. I would love this, just can't find a buyer for one of my kidneys at the moment.
7.
Big advantage to being a guitar playing bass player is being able to read the fret board of the other guys in the band , so playing unfamiliar songs or jamming is a whole lot easier ( providing your not standing behind the guitarist )
Wot he said.
8. Go for the audition. If you get the job, your ready, simples.

Sold. Ta.

has a deal been struck ?
10.
not sure i would want to be in a band that wont tell you much. would give me bad vibes before i got my bass out.
Exactly, not sure what they are trying to achieve with the "secret squirrel" approach. Take a tuba, they asked for a bass player.
11. Problem with most of the Ashdowns is that there is no mute button, kinda defeats the tuner out in my opinion. Think it's really a line out but you can plug a tuner in so it got labled both.
12.
I'd say no and explain why. A mates lad plays in a band and he tunes his Yam bass down to C permanentley for his band, I found it unplayable.
13. Cheers Machines.
14. Thanks mate. Yeah, a tuner out without a mute button is far from ideal.
15. Hi all I'm picking up an Ashdown EB 15-180 EVO II Combo tomorrow to use on smaller gigs but I still want a little PA support via the DI. I know from downloading the manual that it's post eq, which is fine though I use pre eq from my Trace Elliot but does anyone know what sets the signal going to the desk ? On my trace it's set from the input gain so whatever I do to the master for my onstage monitoring has no effect on the signal level going to the PA. Will this be the same ? ie with the trace I can just turn the master down and listen to the sound through the PA Or is that just cos' I choose to DI pre eq ? I know I'll find out at the next gig when I DI it but would like to be forewarned. thanks Les
16. As an aside, I ordered this pedal yesterday at about 4.30 pm from Amazon, supplied by UKET, and it arrived THIS morning !!! Haven't plugged it in yet but I'm already impressed
17. happens a bit in the North West, usually a polite and reasonable request, and I have no problem with it. Bit of common sense on both sides is good for business. At pub level 6 weeks either side I wouldn't accept though. Anyone else remember the old yellow VAEC contracts ? Think they had it built in, depending on fee the barring clause got bigger/longer.
18. Thanks a million for taking so much trouble Daz, that's really good of you, gonna jump for one of those I think. Les
19. mmmm....cheers for that Daz, but its quite a bit shorter. It's a touch under 43" long, My Stingray is 46" and it rattles about in the Ray's flight case, would imagine the ray is a touch shorter as well than yer jazz/presicion cos' of the machine head configuration. Might have to just get a normal bass gigbag and live with that. Unless any Mustang owners can enlighten me. Les
20. Thanks Daz, I've just been having a squint at them, That would be fine BUT, Does it ACTUALLY FIT A FENDER MUSTANG BASS GUITAR ??????? before I buy one. Without rattling round or being 8 or 9 inches too long I mean. Your only in Chester, you can run but you can;t hide !
21. in the UK on the net. Found a couple in the US Ideally I'd like a gigbag, ritter etc but don't know what fits. I know there's a few of us on her with Mustangs, what do you use ? Does asnyone make a guitar one thats a little bit longer ? Don't want to spend hundreds on this cos' it travrls to gigs on the back seat of the car but something with a bit of padding rather than the oversize unpadded nylon bag I've got now would be great, Ta Les
22. Thanks guys, I'll try Dave Lunt. I'll let you know how I get on.
23. Not sure, its been goosed for a while, no output, local shop said the output stage had gone.
24. Asked this ages ago on the old site, but can't find it with a search and someone reccomended a tech guy in either Liverpool or Salford I think who was good with Hartke stuff, I've just had it in my local shop and they say they can't fix it. So if you wouldn't mind again, a reccomendation please, I'm based in Wigan, thanks. Les
25.
For some reason, it can actually vary according to the bass I'm playing. I'm more likely to use a pick with the Precision than with the Stingray. Just seems right for some reason!
I'm with Simon. Predomanantly a finger playing Stingray user for years, but the pop/rock covers band (foo's,Killers,U2 etc) really suits the Mustang played with a pick. Always struggled with a pick on the Stingray, I'm sure loads don't but the pickup's just in the wrong place for me, perfect for fingers though. So, depending on the genre I change the bass and fingers/pick style. Back on the Stingray with my fingers for the country rock band I'm in.
