I posted another question to the seller asking again for the serial number. His response: "As already stated, it has a Mexican prefix but these are usually followed by 5 digits. This however has 6 digits as would an American instrument. So on this particular guitar its not clear cut. The year of manufacture is 93" He's very secretive isn't he.

Played a wedding gig last night and they had one of those elf 'n' safety sound monitors on the wall. So as we're playing and rocking through the greens, into the amber and single red, we then back off to avoid the double red and power cut! Managed to stay alive all night, but has anyone any hit double top and been wiped out?

This is a corker ..... spelling mistakes abound and have a look at the replies to the questions that have been asked. A: Hi there, Why, may I ask do you want them? Kind regards" Having said that, he gives his full business name / address phone number .... but he's some sort of recycler! Maybe that's the clue!

It also reminds us that Strawberry Fields Forever was made up of two takes in different keys and tempos being spliced together. George Martin speeded up one take and slowed down the other to bring them into a common key. I think the join is about 60 seconds into the song.

Thanks to all for your responses. I duly ordered a black scratchplate for my MIM Precison from WD Music yesterday, and it arrived this morning. A near perfect fit - just had to "encourage" a couple of the screws to line up 100%. Excellent service and a good product.

Took a chance on ordering a black scratchplate for my Precision from one of the regular eBay dealers, and it was rubbish. Of the 13 screwholes, only one lined up! No problem with getting a refund though. Anyone know any good sources for Precision scratchplates without having to pay Fender prices ?

They always talked a good game, and you could often find a famous face in there, but I made the mistake of paying up front to place an order for my USA Jazz, which was promised for delivery within a week or two. Six weeks later, it finally arrived after I'd caused a fuss. Their response? Two free sets of strings. Also had a problem with my Ashdown amp delivery from them...... Their repair service left a lot to be desired too. Apart from that ......... JJ

Generally speaking the original key is your starting point, but then it's whatever suits your singer. Try and work it so that you have a shape which you can move around the fret board with ease. If you're not copying the song note for note, then you're in control and can stick with roots or (for example) roots thru to fifths across just two strings. JJ

Hello all, I'm 50 now and started playing bass ten years ago when I was taking my son to guitar lessons. I'd never played a musical instrument before, and his teacher taught guitar, bass, and drums. I needed something to challenge me in middle age so bass seemed the easiest and quietest option! It was a terrific introduction as he taught me to read bass clef but I soon got lazy and moved to tab - I wish I'd stuck it out! I play with a couple of covers bands in and around Enfield / Hertfordshire, doing the usual standards with some Coldplay, Travis, Killers and similar thrown in. I mainly use my Jazz but have a P-Bass as a backup, going through an Ashdown C410T-300 combi. Looking forward to taking part in the forums! JJ
