Going to have a rumage through over the next week or so. As I said, any questions - happy to answer. Cheers.
2. I wasn't sure which section to put this in - Could be Gear Porn Jaydee or could be in the Twin Neck section but as there is a bit of a story to it, perhaps here is best. This was made in 1978, by John Diggins, for Richard "Fez" Ferriday, who was in a successful midlands based rock band, "Cryer" He used it live and recorded with it - bit of a handful but if you get to hear some of the tracks they did, it's a very convincing Ric on one of them. I've had it for about three years and earlier this year, with the help of someone from Talkbass, I managed to track Richard down. They are doing a gig at The Asylum, in Birmingham, 16th December, so I have re-united the bass and it's original owner, who is rehearsing for the gig and will use it on the night. It is a BEAST!! Very powerful passive pick-ups, with a punchy Four and a sweet sounding Eight. More pics, details of Cryer and further description here http://flatericbassa...-neck-bass.html Cheers.
3.
Tell me more - looks outstanding!
The SB500 is not something you could pigeon hole. Sort of looks like a Jazz but has different tones - fatter/warmer than the USA and Jap ones I have. The pots had shot it when I had it, so they have been replaced but wired as original. With both on full it is sort of out of phase but not quite, if that makes any sense but move either volume and all sorts of subtle tones come out. I gig mainly Classic Rock and I can't say that it is ideally suited to that - It would hold it's own and cut through but what it can offer would be more suited to Soul or Jazz. The neck is nothing like a Jazz it's a handful but although I have small hands, it is very comfortable. Nice weight and balance - Nice Bass! Never seen another in the flesh, so would be great to hear form anyone who has got one or had one and see if their thoughts are the same Cheers.
4. I made this one from Platfoam. If the material you use to seperate the cab from the floor is too thin/hard, it will still transfer sound. If the foam is too soft there's a chance your cab and amp will easily be knocked over!! This works a treat and was covered in another Gramma thread. See also here: http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.com/2011/08/fender-urge-acoustipad-and-project-t-40.html Won't go anywhere without it now! Cheers.
5. This is from a post I put up in T-40. I have used drill bits for years. In my opinion, it is the only way to really determine the height. Roll it over the fret - if the string moves, it is lower than the measurement on the bit. If it doesn't, then it is higher. The smallest one I have is 1mm.
Hi. The measurement is with the bass lying on it's back, as when you put it in the playing position, it raises by about 0.25mm. Gravity!! Many years ago, I saw somone using wire to measure action. Wire is made in Standard Wire Gauge, SWG and is a uniform standard size. Sliding something round between the fret and the string, is the most accurate way of measuring the distance. I never did quite get the steel rule thing. This is my '79, which is the one I am playing at the moment - the vernier shows the size of a drill bit and this is slid between the fret and the string. If the gap was greater than the 2.2mm, it would roll off the fret. As the drill is secure, the gap must be less than 2.19mm. So, the action on this one is 2.2mm, when laid on it's back - it was measured as 2.4mm in the playing position. On average, in the playing position, mine average around 2.5mm, which is very comfortable to play. Not sure how old your strings are but if they need changing, try Picato 735 LHY. Please bear in mind that I play off the front corner of the back pup - if you play nearer the neck, this would have to be lifted to suit. Hope this helps. Cheers.
6.
Lovely.
Hold me back!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a free bump on me. I have a fretted one of these in, errrmmm - Dark Stain. This is a stunner. These are great basses - it is only the fact that I have way too many fretless at the mo'. Good luck with the sale. Cheers.
7. Mornin' all. I you have nice pick up rings like this - Great. I have been asked several times for a place to get new rings - just had another BCer ask me yesterday. I had a spare one, myself and had to use it a couple of years ago and the only place I could find replacement ones, was in the USA. A pair of these, including the postage, would come to around £25.00. I have, in the past, thought about getting some made up, so. . . . . while I am at it, does anyone need any new pick-up rings for their T-40. I'll see what response I get and then based on the numbers I will put up a firm cost. These will be a top job and not a Hacksaw and File operation. I look forward to the flood of replies!!! Cheers.
8.
I have the three components in the shed already. MDF, Carpetting, Double dense foam, so im gonna have a go at making my own.
I made my own - one of the best things, £ for £ to improve your live sound. I have tried to put a link to my two posts on my blog about my homemade Acoustipad but it locks up. Sorry. Cheers.
9. You don't see many of these!
10.
FlatEric! It works, I didn't like it went to sell it. Then I used it properly and it's growing on me and not for sale no more
Welcome to the fold.
11. Ha! It's got you, hasn't it??? Don't know what you are running but when it comes to a change, try Rotosound RB40 or RB45 or Picato 735 LHY or the next size up. Think you'll like what you hear.
12.
My new baby. Does the trick. Or two. Or dozen. In fact, it's the most versatile instrument I've ever had. I thought it'll do the "heavy" stuff, but it's very bluesy and funky as well. Totally love it! P.S. The guitars on the wall aren't mine. The photo was taken by previous owner.
Very Nice indeed.
13. Sending you a PM.
14. Hi. All of the above is good advice. In our band, the singer doesn't play anything other than a harmonica. We were Rhythm, Rhythm/Lead Bass Drums and Singer. Five years ago we had a bit of a falling out with the Rhythm guitarist which left us one man down. At this point I have to say our guitarist is brilliant - not God's Gift or Prima Donna at all - solid, tight, fluid and although he will never be Satriani, he is a very convincing Gorham/Robertson, Paul Kossoff, Billy Gibbons, Angus Young etc. We had gigs booked and he said "we'll be all right - trust me". One rehearsal with only three of us playing and a couple of sleepless nights. . . . . did the gig - outdoor job off a curtain sider and from that point we have never looked back. I play guitar as well and that helped me quite a bit to understand where to bulk things out a bit more but trust me, if you have a half decent guitarist that you can work with, you'll find that you become tighter and the fact that you are one man down will only occur to you when it comes to sharing out the $£$£$£$£$£ I did rely on an EQ/Booster pedal, as a bit of a security blanket, for a few months but now I set the volume to a level and the "dig in" on the solos. I agree with "losing some of the fancy stuff" - you need to be solid and there is no time for knob twiddling during the set. Get your sound right and get on with the job. You'll also become more appreciated. My radio gear packed up in the middle of a Bad Co. song and just about mangaged to sort it before the end of the song. Comments were "blimey, all went a bit empty" and "just goes to show how much the bass holds everything together"!! Don't worry, you'll be fine. Gook luck. Let us know how you get on. Cheers.
15. For what it's worth. . . . I have one of these that I paid way more than this for and although it will never be a Moog, it has some very usable sounds (run mine through a chorus pedal) and will give you a chance to have a go - better something like this than spend $£$£$£$£ and then find out you can't manage with it. In my opinion. . . . . a steal!! Good luck with the sale. Cheers.
16.
Eric stop taunting me! Is that the one you're selling? Also to the orange and gibson unbeliever come have a play then make a judgement, I promise it will shut you up
Ha. Not this one but almost identical. Been using it for the last 3 months. A cracking T-40!!
The solution to your quandry is simple. Get rid of that wimpy [s]Gibson[/s] and worthless PV !!!
Oooo! Harsh but fair if you like Mudbucker Telecaster Bass. Understood. Cheers.
17. You already know the solution to the problem, don't you??? Here it is. Cheers.
18.
Saw a band with one in an Irish bar in Edinburgh years ago. It was seismic!!! How big a difference is there between the two pickup outputs? Looking at them you'd assume it was night & day.
Hi. If you click on the link to my blog, on the original post, you will see a detail about the pick-ups. I also have covered the Stereo feature. The pick-up looks big at the neck, but is in fact, four small coils. The back pick-up is very sharp and in some circumstances could be described as a little harsh on it's own but blend the two and it's a different story. Some very useable tones. Cheers.
19. Don't panic!! Drop me a PM telling all your woes and I should be able to sort it, including a lend of a truss rod tool and some guidelines. Cheers.
20. As some BCer's may be aware, I have spoken about my Magnum on several occasions but as the famous quote on here goes "No pics - It doesn't exist!! Well, I finally got round to taking some decent shots, at the time I was doing a string change. So, here it is!! Lots more Pics and a detailed description here: http://flatericbassa...agnum-bass.html Any questions, Happy to answer. Cheers.
21.
I want that so badly! I have wanted a Rickenbacker 4080/12 for ages but I'm never going to be able to afford one so that looks like a more sensible option. Someone give me the money for it?
Doesn't look too bad, although the necks seem a little far apart. I've got an old custom build and the reach to the bass is a good stretch. http://flatericbassandguitar.blogspot.com/2010/09/reeve-twin-progtasic.html Looks like they are now willing to copy just about anything!! Cheers.
22. Wow! Not been here for a few days, come back and. . . . . . . it's all different! Errrm, think I'll take a bit of a tour, see you in a bit!
23. OOOOOOOOOooooooooooo! Nice. A few more good pics may help your sale. If this was up a couple of years ago, I would have snapped it up but I am now narrowing it all down and I have two Musicians already. Good luck - have a bump on me. Cheers.
24. Looking good. I'm with Cocco - if it's the only T-40 you have. . . . you'll be back. If you go to Bass Guitars section, you will see I have just added the best youtube review I have seen on the T-40. It will do one of two things - make you want to keep it or perhaps help with the sale. He got his for $200!!!!!!!!!!!!! All I can say is, he was bloody lucky, as a lot of players have twigged what these are all about and most go for $350 - $400, in the condition he has, in rare white. Cheers.
25. FOR ALL YOU T-40 FANS OUT THERE. The Best T-40 YouTube Review Well worth a watch. About 20 mins long so get a cup of tea or coffee, sit back and enjoy. The only bit he missed was that when only the bridge pick-up is on, in single coil the phase switch is a coil select. He also describes things made of steel - they are not, it's Zinc Die Cast. His is 12lbs!! I do have one at around that weight but most average 10.5lbs Great to see a youtube thing where you can actually hear what they are like. Terrific! Cheers.
