1.
Hi all First of all, I think the T-40 is one of the best looking basses ever. . . . .
I couldn't agree more. I have quite a few of these, earlier Toaster and later Blade. Toaster & Blade There are all sorts of sounds you can get out of them and there are several fans on here. The earlier Toaster pick-up has a warmer sound with both single coil and humbucker available. Natural Toaster The Blade version is more powerful, with a slightly brighter sound - the later ones having larger switches. Blade T-40 Old Red Chalky The necks are fairly broad but not too deep - I have small hands and I have no trouble at all. They were built so you could take them into battle with you. Somewhere in this thread, if you go back a while - I weighed all the components on one of mine. I do have one really heavy one, the most powerful one I have but the rest I have no problem with - I am used to some weighty basses. As it balances so nicely, it is not as bad as people think it is - there are owners on here that use them on a regular bassis Have a read through this thread and look under gear porn Peavey T-40, started by kingforaday and you'll find lots of info and opinions. Cheers.
 2. I thought I had seen one of these up for sale. Have a free bump for a lovely bass. I've got one with black tape strings. Lovely tone - Very old school - Very rare. Good luck. Guild B301-F
 3.
Ok so had the status at rehearsals along with theric to see how I get on with it. The first thing you notice is the weight,,,,its as light as a feather. I was using the studios ampeg 450 head and matching 8x10 cab. The ric was thunderous through it. However I felt the status lacked oomph. It was very punchy and cut through really well. The treble turned right up did give it a very defined sound and with the bass rolled right it up was still very defined but alsoo quite deep. I find this would be an ideal bass to compare to a MM Stingray. I didnt really like the stingrays glassy tone. But I have to say this bass has more high end than the MM. It doesnt really compare at all to the Ric in tone or feel but the price difference on the 2 huge anyway. But after a 3 hour rehearsal I know I wont be going for a back adjustment if I purely use the Status
Hi. Nice looker. Surprised that it lacked oomph! The last time I gigged mine, through a Yamaha BT500 and a Hartke 8 x 10, a couple of guys came up after the gig and wanted to have a look at it - not being that common, they hadn't seen one. Both said what a great sound it had - a lot of depth and presence. Assuming that battery is OK, my has Stadium Elite strings on - may be down the the strings that are on it. You could also try Rotosound RB 40 or RB 45. Great player, luvverly neck - sure it will be a keeper. Cheers.
 4.
You can click on woodbutcher's profile to see when they were last online..... Last Seen: 7th February 2010 - 10:26 AM ..... so probably not.
Shame. It's a CSB 450 - Top of the Range, fixed neck - don't come up that often. I've got oneand it's luvverely.
 5. These are really nice basses. Values go up and down on a lot of Classic Ibanez and Aria - Fashion/Fad thing but I have yet to come across a bad one. I would hang on to it - if you hit a bad day and only get £200 for it - you would really struggle to get anything close for that money. They do reach quite a bit higher, when the Ibanez fashion comes round again Keep it! My RS 924 I also have the fretless version, which is luvverly! Cheers.
 6.
I'm happy enough with the weight of the T40 too - it was a bit of an adjustment though I think my general posture is getting better now thanks to constant tensing of back muscles - T(herapeutic)40!
As a big T-40 lover, I get all sorts of stuff flagged up for me. Someone brought this to my attn. What the . . . . . . . I know some of them are slightly heavier than a Precision but I just had to look away for a moment! Nurse, pass me my medication!!! Cheers.
 7. Yes, I've been wondering about this. As we are all on the look-out for fake Fender/Gibson/Ric etc, so we don't end up buying a pup, it seems odd that under our noses is an advert for Fake Guitars! Surely it can't be a good thing to encourage it?? I remember seeing their site last year, which clearly showed the face of the heads and on the rear, Made in USA and the serial number. . . . . . . complete with a VERY convincing case, to boot! They don't show that now but efectively they are selling known brand instruments for a few hundred $$$ Is this right? Answers on a post card.
 8.
This is the worst deal I've seen for quite some time... Buyer apparently can't read carefully. Ugly, worn piece of plywood sh!t for the price of nice bass? The world's doomed!
I think you'r right. I've just sold a lovely Fender Japan '75 Jazz for about £100 more! Some stuff is a bargain but other time you just wonder what someone was thinking. Wish they'd buy something off me!!
 9. Tom, look away now!! That is even worse than this. . . . . . OUCH! Who in their right mind. . . . . .
 10. It's a Yamaha BX1 Copy! I've got an original and although quite rare, I can't see why you would go to the trouble! Google image Yamaha BX!, you'll see what I mean. Cheers.
 11. The pick-ups look like Ibanez (used on Ibanez Thunderbird) to me. This Cannot be a Ric. Where's Jon when you need him?? Cheers.
 12.
Hi, Ive just picked up a Fender Prodigy Bass . . . from the serial number it looks like it was made in 1991, so about 20 years old. Id say its in almost Mint condition, no fret wear whatsoever, and no marks or dings other than an almost invisible hairline crack in the finish under the E string and a tiny, less than a pea sized, 1mm depresion in the back of the headstock, which again is almost un-noticable. Ive looked on the internet and there's lots of info on the 6 string Prodigy, which was a sort of 90's "super Strat" guitar. But hardly any info on this Prodigy Bass model, which, in a similar vein I would describe as a sort of "super Jazz" . . if you get what I mean ? The bass has a slab style slightly cut down Jazz Shape body with just a simple front contour, super slim fast Jazz style neck (which I love and is why I bought it). It has a slightly narrow looking Jazz style headstock. The logo on the headstock says "Made in USA". It has active electronics with dual concentric controls. See picture attached. Anyway, I cant seem to find anything out about this model at all, so if any of you fender bass guru's out there could enlighten me about this bass or offer any info about the background to this model and how its now considered in terms of value and collectability then I'd be very interested to hear ? ? ? Also would be interesting to know what the original fender model code was for this bass . . . that might help me google more info on it ? ?
Hi. Just found this. Prodigy for sale I had an Urge 1 with Vol and Pan on one stack and Bass & Treble on the other. Urge 1 Active bass that was very nice - the head on yours looks close to the Urge, Sold it to a BCer. Lovely bass. Yours with a "P" at the neck, would have a bit more grunt. Not seen many of these around. Cheers.
 13.
Edit. This is still available, if anyone fancies it. Now thought to be a 1980 or 1981 - whatever year it is in the late Seventies style. If you listen very carefully. . . . you can hear Hit me with your rythm stick, I don't like Mondays and Another Brick in The Wall, vibrating off the strings!! This is a very clean late 70's Precision, which according to the guy I bought it off, privately, only had one owner before him, making me only the third owner. I went through a big Precision and Jazz phase, a few years back and after I managed to get my dream Jazz, this was next on the list. I have rehearsed with it and gigged with it but only at some of the nicer venues, if you get what I mean. Didn't fancy it getting damaged! Took me AGES to find one in such good condition. These pics were taken last summer but it hasn't changed since then. I will be taking more shots and give a full description The last time it made a public outing, would be about 8 months ago and since then I have rehearsed with it a couple of times, wiped it down and put it back in the case. I have several other "P"'s and none of those have been out for a while, as I am working my way through Ibanez, Aria and Peavey T-40 etc. So, I think it is time to let it go. I am looking for £1200 for this, which comes with a std case. For another £50, it will come with one of those fancy Fender moulded cases, which is what I have carried it around in - top protection. I also have a period Fender case, which I bought to go with it and having paid for it (ouch) dare not take it out. Someone may be interested in that. As I said, more pics and description to follow. Any PM's answered before 8.30, lunch and evenings. Cheers. Bass&Case Case&Bass - Go to last page.
Subject to the usual, I have just sold my Japanese 70's Jazz. Anyone fancy this old fella? £1185.00 with one of those bullet-proof moulded fender cases. Played it last around 8 weeks ago - plugged it in, gave it 30 mins of exercise, wiped it down and put it away again. Ready to go. This year I have been slightly reducing my mahooosive excess in basses - had a lot of fun over the years but can't get round them all now. I have 3 Japanese Precisions, which get an outing now and again but even they have to take their turn. So, any takers? Cheers.
 14.
Pm'd I'll have it!
Blimey, that was quick!! Is it at this point that I say - should have read £535.00 Yours mate, subject to the usual. The early bird etc. Off to a gig, will PM you tomorrow. Cheers.
 15. I have had this for several years and am now thinking of letting some one else give it a home. I bought this when I had Major GAS for a genuine USA 70's Jazz. My friend has one and I just wanted one so bad, after lending it me to do a big outdoor gig. This is actually a "75" Reissue, which are cracking basses in their own right. The previous owner put a late 60's - early 70's decal on it, to make it look like that period. I had the gas so bad the as soon as I spotted it, I thought that'll do for the time being! I have had my '72 now for some time and only bring this out for a quick thrash and a wipe down. It is fitted with (cost then was £85 - I think) a £100 worth of Fender Custom Shop Pick-ups, has a great neck an LOW action - a breeze to play. Custom Shop Pick-ups So, to confirm, it is actually. . . . . a Fender Japan, 75 Reissue, with Custom shop Pick-ups but. . . . . it has had the decal changed and because of that it obviously knocks the value. The serial number on the '75 is on the head but the original owner made a note of it, which I do have and will list when I can dig it out. It can best be described as Minty! If this bass had hung in a shop for a couple of days being played two or three times, that is the condition of it. Almost "out of the box" I am looking for £435.00, which is a delivered price to most parts of the UK. Would have been looking for a bit more if totally original but I think it is fair. I had the GAS bad, so paid over the odds. If, however you have the GAS so bad for it, perhaps you could offer me more!!! Only Joking!! For reference only - this is my '72 that replaced it, along with my US P on the left which is still up for sale if anyone fancies it. Any questions, fire away. Cheers.
 16.
Are the BB424s any better than the 414s? I had a 414, and despite it being a great bass, I was never truly happy with the natural response or sound of the ir. I put an Aguilar OBP2 preamp in it, but there was still something missing. Because the pickups are an unusual shape, you can't replace them easily without faffing around chopping wood out. I would really quite like an 80's style rock bass (jackson sorta style, pointy headstock etc) but there don't seem to be any decent used ones about, or anything similar new with the right pickup config. I did see the Peavey Zodiac; does anyone have any experience of these?
I've got a std Sunburst Zodiac - A cracking bass. Great balance, right weight and the std Peavey pick-ups are really quite good Bought some SD's to put into it but just haven't got round to it yet. £ for ££££ !!!! Cheers.
 17.
that would be great. FlatEric thanks for help but if stingraybassman have the template already made i would aski him to send it. please send on email: [email protected] Thanks again to both od you
No problem. Looked at the build, looks great. If you are thinking of fitting a moving pick-up, I would go for it. I have the same feature on a Westone Rail and I'm sure that stingraybassman will confirm, you can get a lot of subtle tonal changes by moving the pick-up. Good luck with the project - keep us all posted. Cheers.
 18.
Bit OT but Flat Eric - just had a look at your collection - absolutely marvellous! Great to see some very unusual basses (and great photographs too!)
Thanks for the compliment on the photographs. My daughter is a pro photographer, travelling around the world taking some amazing shots but when she looks at my efforts, she just chuckles! The reason it is taking me so long to list everything is mainly down to her! I'll take quite a few shots of three or four at a time and then later, I'll reject them, thinking they're not good enough. It's all about lighting. . . . . There are loads more basses and some guitars to come, so if you enjoyed the blog, keep popping back now and again.
its ok
Okeydokey. PM me your address and I'll get it sorted for you. Cheers.
 19.
ive got two warwick fortresses at present and LOVE the feel/profile of them, so i'd love to have a custom built neck with the same profile etc and woods (wenge/wenge) for a project build. Anyone any idea how much (roughly) it would cost to have one built from scratch?
Might be worth getting in touch with Doug Wilkes. Doug Wilkes Cheers.
 20. Hi. I guess this would be pretty close - close enough for a build project. Ripper Grabber?? Let me know if OK and we'll sort something out. Cheers.
 21.
Here is the Video for my band Lesbian Bed Death's last single which has just been released on digital through Play, Amazon, iTunes etc etc Really proud of this and thought i would share it with you! Lesbian Bed Death - Moonlight Enjoy!!!
Liked the track - thought the video was VERY Professional and I mean VERY!! Top job, will definately be following what you do from now on. Cracking. Cheers.
 22.
I got a Euphonic Audio amp this week from BassDirect and the manufacturers had supplied a US kettle lead in the box I can obviously swap from another amp but this is a pain and also a recipe for disater if I turn up to a gig or rehearsal having forgotten to swap over. So does anyone know where I could buy a standard UK kettle lead for an amp? Muchos gracias
If you mean a bog standard Amp/PC mains lead - three pin, I've ended up with loads of them. PM me your address and I'll ping you one over.
 23. Shame about that bump - sold for just over half of what I sold it for! Someone has got a great deal. Yes, that pick-up is the biz Cheers.
 24. This is my old Roadster - a cracking bass. My Old Roadster The present owner seems to have had a bit of an accident since I had it. Well worth a punt - only sold it as I have the active version, which is also a great bass but a lot heavier than the 800. This one, from memory, is quite light. Cheers.
 25. Mmm! From the factory, it shouldn't be a problem - Shame. It's not just the height issue - I have two 8 Strings and the thinner strings have a different intonation to the thicker ones. Being the the on the same saddle, means it may be slightly out. Cheers.
