As said above - best to try one. I bought one of the first Sunburst ones, as soon as you could get them, from the now defunct Guitar Emporium. It was one of the very few basses that I have bought that was new. I think it's a Marmite thing - I just couldn't get on with it - never gigged it and only did a very short rehearsal with it - shame, as I'd wanted one as soon as I saw it. The electrics, as mentioned by someone else, weren't that sparkling. Sold it on very quickly and the new owner was "Truly Over The Moon", as he said! As I said, it's a Marmite thing. Cheers.

Meet "Chalky" who is the brother to "Snowy" Only took this pic yesterday, so very handy that a White Bass thread has been started. Cheers.
Lovely - I've got a thing for that look! I don't suppose you know the weight? Late 70's can often translate to boat-anchor-heavy
Hi. Not sure - I will dig it out at stick it on the scales. At a guess, 10 - 11 lbs - almost all the ones I looked at, of that period were all about that sort of weight. I have some pretty weighty basses, so I guess I am more used to it. If you are used to a lightweight bass, perhaps may not be for you. I was playing my Ibanez Studio, the other night and that weighs quite a bit more than this P. As I said before, I will get some more pics and a description, towards the end of the week. Cheers.

Edit. This is still available, if anyone fancies it. Now thought to be a 1980 or 1981 - whatever year it is in the late Seventies style. If you listen very carefully. . . . you can hear Hit me with your rythm stick, I don't like Mondays and Another Brick in The Wall, vibrating off the strings!! This is a very clean late 70's Precision, which according to the guy I bought it off, privately, only had one owner before him, making me only the third owner. I went through a big Precision and Jazz phase, a few years back and after I managed to get my dream Jazz, this was next on the list. I have rehearsed with it and gigged with it but only at some of the nicer venues, if you get what I mean. Didn't fancy it getting damaged! Took me AGES to find one in such good condition. These pics were taken last summer but it hasn't changed since then. I will be taking more shots and give a full description The last time it made a public outing, would be about 8 months ago and since then I have rehearsed with it a couple of times, wiped it down and put it back in the case. I have several other "P"'s and none of those have been out for a while, as I am working my way through Ibanez, Aria and Peavey T-40 etc. So, I think it is time to let it go. I am looking for £1200 for this, which comes with a std case. For another £50, it will come with one of those fancy Fender moulded cases, which is what I have carried it around in - top protection. I also have a period Fender case, which I bought to go with it and having paid for it (ouch) dare not take it out. Someone may be interested in that. As I said, more pics and description to follow. Any PM's answered before 8.30, lunch and evenings. Cheers. Bass&Case Case&Bass - Go to last page.
Don't buy anything that's already expensive which means no Fenders. Buying a Fender is buying high in the market hoping it goes super high. A bass that has increased in value in the 400% range over the last few years was the Peavey T40 beating any Fender. Another plus side to buying cheap basses is you're not going to be burned by fakes.
Aha, at last - recognition for the once forgotten T-40. One of the first I bought was £180 - still got it - and as mentioned above, a lot of time and money goes into making fake Classic Fenders, with genuine buyers being caught out. I have never seen a fake T-40! Just look at them - how could you not like them? Purely a matter of taste, I guess - if we all loved the same thing, what a dull place it would be. If you could find a sub £200 T-40, these days, it wouldn't look anything like these two - times have moved on. Cheers.
Looks better than the one it was based on too.
Awwhh, not sure about that! I'm sure no offence was intended but I am very fond of mine and is a truly great example of Japanese craftsmanship. I don't have any pics of it, at the mo' but will get some sorted, as a visual contrast. I think The Tribute is a cracker but the original has a lot going for it. Mr Squire must have thought so, at some point Cheers.
I bought some tickets for a big JB fan ages ago and was indifferent about going - so glad I did. I thought it was a really entertaining gig with some very talented musicians...'A Day in the Life' was the highlight for me.
Hi. Glad there was another one of us there! Day in the life - Holes - Albert Hall - Very appropriate. A musical experience, rather then a gig. Still getting a buzz from it!!

I was lucky enough to see Jeff Beck, last night - a really great "Consert" - a mix of all types of music. On bass was Rhonda Smith, who had some really nice moves - which for me, would have been ever better if Mr Sound Engineer would have brought her up a bit in the mix. Hey Ho! Most enjoyable evening - followed by a lazy morning. Anyone else go? Cheers.

Top job!!! I have been looking at this for some time and it was great watching it come together. Looks terrific - Look forward to a full review on playability and sounds. Cheers.

Hi. Just logged in - LOADS of PM's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think I could have sold this at least a dozen times!!! RaNoFuNkY was the first to get a PM to me, so providing all the Do Ray Me gets sorted out, it is on it's way to him. Sorry to all the others - you need to sharpen up your trigger fingers. There has been a lot of interest due to it's shorter scale - I am having a bit of a change around and I am thinking of moving on some of my Short and Medium scale basses, so watch this space! First come, first served. Cheers.
PM'd
Hi. Lot of interest in this. You got there first! Will PM you later and if all sorted, I will mark up as sold. Cheers. If this goes well, I am also thinking about moving on my '79 Sunburst Precision. Details, price and pics in the week.

I put this up for sale about 10 months ago and then withdrew it, after I had changed the battery! Doh!! I played it a lot for a couple of weeks and then it was put away again. I thinks it's now time to let it go. I have never sold anything on here, bought a few things, so I guess I will just go from my experience of buying things. Paypal is fine, if you add on a few quid to cover the fee, cheque (to clear before shipping) or good old fashioned Postal orders. It's a mid 90's but uncertain of the actual year, as Fender don't seem to know for themselves! This is what a search throws up. This guitar is from the Mexican Signature Series made at the Ensenada Plant (Fender), Mexico in the Year(s): 1996 - Present, While this line of guitars was created in 1996, the serial numbers do not correlate with the subsequent years hence an exact date cannot be determined from the serial number. Cracking bass, that I know one or two of you on here, already have. Active, light as a feather and very fast. Google Fender Urge MIM - lots of info there. Looking for £295, delivered to most parts of the UK. Any questions, ping them over. Cheers.

'70 - 73 Jazz? I'm almost convinced...
FlatEric replied to Bassassin's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Looks genuine to me, as well. I've got a '72 and the front of the head is a much darker shade - I have a friend who also has a '72 and his is the same. The pick guard looks correct, as well. OK, who's going after it then?? -
Had a T-45 a while (after asking BC's collective opinion - thanks guys! ) but didn't get on with it. Clanky tone, heavy to point of unplayable, I had to replace the tuners a few days after getting it and it was badly out-of-tune at the 7th fret. No amount of intonation tweakage made a difference, so I assume it was in dire need of a pro set-up. Beyond my (feeble) skills, regardless, and I sold it after a few months. Lovely looking bass, but not for me. Neither was its replacement, a 2008 Ray in a distinctly similar paint-job and, after playing a load of Fender Jazz, I ended up back where I started with a Warwick Corvette STD. Nicer to play and sounds far better in a mix, imho. You live and learn.
Hi. Sorry to hear about your troubles. I have a beat up T-45 - in bits at the mo' as the first 7 frets have shot it!! Always the case - easy to take 'em apart, then ages to get the job done!! Mine is heavy but has a mellow to bright tone, using both the coil select and the tone control. BIG sound. Perhaps your 7th fret issues were wolf tones/string type. There is a massive amount of adjustment on the bridge and all the necks were machine made. Horses for courses - Ya plays what Ya like - Sounds like yuou are a Warwick man.

Hi. I have just bought a Doug Wilkes Bass, that is coming up to ten years old, from a fellow BC'er, Lewibassist. Lewis had this built, to his specification, just over nine years ago and has looked after it, very well. What a cracking instrument!! I have only put it through a small rig, at the mo' but sounds lovely. I will put it through the big rig on Thursday and let you know how I got on. Details here. Doug Wilkes Custom Bass Cheers. Very Happy Eric.

Hi. Bought a cracking Doug Wilkes bass from Lewis. Top man! Very pleasant to deal with, would happily deal with him again. Cheers.
Unless I'm seeing things, there are holes in your scratchplate ahead of the tone/volume knobs. My T-40 doesn't have those.
I don't know, pop out for a couple of hours, sit down to munch on my sandwich and the pair of you. . . . . They are an index mark for the volume and tone. The cutter removes the top layer of black material and reveals the white. The "10" on the dial lines up with it when on full. The later ones didn't have that feature. Cheers.

This is Jon's (Bassassin) more rare '79 "Three Piecer" and having looked at it, it would appear even more rarer!! If you look at my '79, you can just see the centre section, which is just slightly wider than the string ferrules. Jon's has a much wider center section, which I have never come across before. A very nice looking bass, indeed!! This shot is very well suited to Gear "Porn" - His tittle for the pic is . . . . . . FULL FRONTAL
Hi. Here's my '79. Such a lot of life in this one. Full sound, harmonics all over the place, deep thud when required, bright and snappy when needed. Lovely to play, brings a smile to my face every time I pick it up. This is one of the more rare "Three piecer" bodies. The "fur" background is is a "lend from a friend" - what he has it for, I'm not sure, Mmm?

Our investments are finally starting to pay off boys I'm keeping my eyes peeled for a rail. Just to have the full set.
I've still got it. . . . . . How long can you resist?????? All the juicy details here. . . .Cocco's Rail to be.
By all means post the pics Eric! That Tanburst's an absolute stunner, & in a way I'm not too surprised at the price given the finish & condition. T-40s seem to be on the up at the moment, one like mine only quite a lot rougher went for £340 a week or two ago. Definitely hanging onto mine - it really is a delight to play. By the way Eric, completely forgot to get those Tele Thinline bits off to you - I'll get it sorted! J.
Jon, thanks - would be nice to get that one all finished. Will send you a pic when it's done. Will post the pics of your "Three Piecer" in the Porn section. It's a cracker!! Cheers.
First of all, some pics for the porn stash: J.
Jon, you have a lovely looking bass - if it's OK with you, I'll stick the pics up on the T-40 section in Gear Porn. Did anyone on here get this T-40 Tanburst I know a couple of you were looking at it. Cheers.
Well, it's not all a bed of roses - mine needs a refret. At least, a partial one. The first 4 frets are pretty ground down and buzz a tad too much. On a bass with less grunt to their pickups it probably would be a problem, of course The only thing is, I'm guessing a refret would affect it's value? Or is a refret better than clapped out frets in the long run? Mind you, apart from that the T-40 is still the perfect bass for me
Jerry, Hi. I have a "Road Warrior" T-45, with the first 7 frets almost down to the board - it still played, sort of, before I took the neck off. When I get a few hours spare . . . . . I shall refret the first 7. I did the first 5 on my EBO, years ago and you can't tell it's been done. Find a good luthier down your way - recommendation is the best way to choose - anyone know of somone in the South East? Selcting the correct wire is very important - get him to do the first 5. IMHO it will hardly put a scratch on the value, if it is done correctly. Jon, Hi. The earlier Toaster models like yours are not quite as bright or as powerful as the blade pups. In almost all occasions, I gig with two of the same era - amp adjustments to suit. Yours will definately be warmer and more mellow than a later blade. They are String Sensitive - brighter strings will bring out a lot more varied tones. What is your ideal/favourite sound? Cheers.
There's a very nice sunbust lined fretless T-40 for sale here... Has Eric got one of these...?
Yep, bit battered, nothing like the one for sale and to my shame. . . . . . . I have recently robbed the front pup and the pup select switch from it, to help a fellow owner out. I hope to put it all right at a later date. Nice to see you are still enjoying your "T", Jerry - keep on rockin'! Cheers.
