1.
If I get it for my bid, I'll be prepared to ignore a few differences. While there is some "character" to the finish, I didn't spot anything too tragic. Did I miss much?
No. The other one was perfect, apart from the big mark on the neck. This one is good but used and the knobs have been changed . The other one had an original case, I think. Don't know what sort of music you are into but with the right strings on, these basses have a great Piano-like tone. If you want Thud Thud, it's not this one. Good luck.
 2.
Recommended this to a mate, he just brought it round for a going over. Doesn't really need one, looks barely played, except the owner was right handed and had apparently fitted a tug bar. Ancient strings on it, will see how it sounds when I've cleaned and oiled the board, the frets are hardly worn.
New strings and a set-up, you will be pleasantly surprised. Don't know how, don't know why - I have two of these and they play and sound better than something four times the price. Looks nice in white, too.
 3.
Ok i'll start then: My battered Mark III head, sitting atop a Marshall 1555(?) 1x15 folded horn cab, sitting atop another Peavey 1x15. The only reason why I have another rig is that is often too loud for some of our gigs. The bass is a CMI Ned Callan from 1970/72.
Mmm. Nice Peavey - Nice Ned. Lucky bloke, 'nuff said!
 4.
Came across a thread on the Matsumoku.org board discussing "Onyx" guitars, seems to be a Canadian brand. http://www.matsumoku.org/ggboard/viewtopic...f=18&t=4730 The guitar in the pics is the little sibling of the green Seiwa bass: J.
Jon, thanks for your efforts. Top man, as always. I have come across this, which looks very tasty! Same sort of pup layout/distance from bridge as an Odyssey I have and that's one of my favourites. Bet this would growl!! Cheers.
 5.
Well, if you insist: Just flung it together this evening, no strings, not wired it up yet - but I'm quite pleased with this, so far. Hope it doesn't play like a pig! Anyway - back to Rickenbuggery! J.
WOW! What a difference! I had access to one of these, in the late '70's. From memory, a really nice guitar. Don't think they really caught on at the time - not easy to do the rotary selection "on the fly" Perhaps you ought to go into cosmetic surgury What a result!!
 6.
70s Ibanez Artist Bass Yeah, I'd like this, and have bid £305 on it. But, fundamentally even though I'd like to have this, not quite enough (not yet anyhow) to pay the £500 or so it may well go for. Over to you Flat Eric? PS: If anyone's wondering why I'm being open about my bid amount in front of potential competitors, just say that I wouldn't be if I thought I had a realistic chance of winning Edit: These had an ebony neck? Edit2: by "neck" I mean "fretboard" of course
Oooo! Well spotted. You guys must have some sort of special search going on - how on earth do you keep coming up with them?? Mmm, by the look of it, the other one was better, apart from the nasty skank on the side of the neck. The other one had a case and original knobs. I would have a go and see how you do. I shall step aside, on this occasion. Good luck.
 7. Welcome. I have family in Canada, it's a big place - Where are you from? Cheers.
 8.
I've had a few Japanese Jazz copies & I'd say on the whole the necks feel bigger than real Fenders - I think P & J copy necks were likely the same apart from cosmetic variations. I have a pre '75 Ibanez 2366B Precision & the neck's nothing like a real one! J.
Jon, Hi. Some nice additions with the Blazer and the Silver series - would be great to more more added. I'm a big fan of Japanese gear, and have some knowledge but I am constantly amazed that you always manage to have some input on the subject. Where on earth did you get all of this from? Have you taken exams on the subject? Over some period of time you must have done a lot of research. Is it just a genuine interest or are you getting therapy. You can let me know when the doctor has gone. Cheers.
 9.
I had one of the Artist basses when I was a teenager. For sentimental reasons, it would be nice to have one again. However, if it were really important to me, then I'd put my money on the line and simply pay the going rate for one. If it were a really major life aim, then I could go onto the collector sites, and offer £1500 for one, and I'm sure I'd get one fairly quick But, it makes a nice fantasy to think that one day I'll run across one in a pawn shop or at a car boot or where-ever. Also, I must admit I've had daydreams where I win the lottery and I get a known luthier to make me a replica. One think I would like though. Could I have some more detailed photos of yours?
Mr Twit, good day to you. This one? I have posted a couple of others on Gear Porn - Classic Ibanez.
 10. For Mr. A Twit. Hope you like this one. Cheers.
 11.
I sh*t out of using it to record on saturday and used the 75 P instead. When I finished I plugged the RD in just for shits and giggles. It sounded wicked with old strings. Any Advice for cleaning it up (yellowed staining from fags etc..and hard ware). I'm well chuffed
Hi. I know exactly how to clean up your RD. . . . . . . Give it to me for a month or two and I'll send it back all shiny and sparkly, with some new strings on!!! Nice one. If you ever get fed up with it . . . . . . . . .
 12.
Bloody shame about the Artist - but I had an idea it wouldn't go stratospheric. There's no way of knowing how high the other guy's top bid was, though. J.
For what it's worth and to make you feel a little better, Mr Twit - I was looking at this one but didn't got for it. I have got one of these - same finish, in MINT condition - great bass, so I was looking for another. This is mine at a gig, earlier this year - bit of a naff pic, brightened it up as best I can. I asked about the marks on the neck but didn't get any further images, so I brightened up the pic of the neck and it looked quite bad, looked like it had been dragged over a sharp edge, although had been varnished over. So I think whoever has got it, paid a fair ish price - they are as rare as hens teeth. If you are looking for one. . . . . race yer!
 13.
I have it! 'm recording with it tomorrow.
Congratulations. Hope you like it. Let us know how you get on. Loads of sounds - back the amp off a bit, when you plug in - bit of a shock how much they put out. If you love it, great If not I hope you'll put my name at the top of the list - Pike!! Cheers.
 14. I was watching this one, with interest. I've got a "1" in Cherry red and was looking to see if this one would sell, in which case the market for these would be climbing. Not selling mine but is always nice to know the values are holding. Gone!? Looks like it's been withdrawn! Wonder what happened. That was a VERY good example, not many like that!
 15. Pics of Azumi Bass. These are the pics of the Azumi and after a bit of searching, I have come across a guitar that is the brother to my bass. Anyone else have a Siewa anything - Bass, Guitar, accessory? Would be great to hear from you.
 16. Jon, thanks for your response - fountain of knowledge, as usual. It still remains a bit of a mystery - nothing definate. I have a pic of an Azumi, that I found recently, which is on a memory stick that I can't find at the mo'. DOH. When I've got it, I'll post it. Seiwa also has a Rockman association - electonics, so bears out what you say about hardware/elecrical manufacture. Anyone else ever come across "Seiwa"?
 17. I am a big fan of Classic Peavey but don't know much about the later stuff. I have a Yam RBX 270, fretless, which is a really great bass. Several people who have had a go on it have been quite surprised, including a semi-pro and a bass teacher. I have had a go on a fretted, Natural one - just as good. Full sound, Grrreat neck, light - does what it says on the tin. For me, I would keep my eye out for a nice, used 270 around £100. Simples!
 18. Just a little bump for Classic Ibanez. There must be a lot more out there. Join in.
 19. Hi. Calling on your expertise. I have had this for some time but despite the the avenues I have followed, I can find very little about it. Azumi and Cushin seem to be associated, whoever they are? Lovely to play - I have even left the 4 odd strings on it, that were fitted when I had it, as it gives out a real deep thud. I am currently teaching myself how to write a web site, something I have wanted to do for years - very slow progress - and when I have cracked it, I am going to compile all the info I can find on the stuff in my collection. To do this I am doing as much trawling as I can, to ensure it is accurate. This enquiry will be the first of several. The next one will be a "Parkinson" P from Leigh, in Lancs. Anyone every heard of them? I have only ever seen one other! I will get some pics of that, soon. So, anyone out there have any clues? Cheers.
 20. Me TOO. I'm interested! Seriously, I had a Jaguar - got rid of it, just couldn't get on with it. The RD is one to have, at some point in your bass playing life. HUGE range of sounds from the Artist, a Classic. Mine is a Natural, the Sunbursts are less common. The Jag would be worth about £450 ish, I guess, so it would be a bargain. So, either jump at it or share the details!!
 21. Don't know much about the newer ones but USA made T-40's, and the Fury & Foundation models keep cropping up. Always worth a look. I was told that a T-40 recently went for less than £180. Apparently it was very well road worn and battered but if it is a sound you are after and not looks, I think that was a bargain!
 22.
I almost wish that this cost more than £199! I like the look of it. It owes a lot to the Jazz bass , it looks different around the cutaways. Has anyone here got one, I'd love to get a paper template drawn from the body (still messing with body shapes for my twin neck build)
Hi. I can sort that for you. Great Bass Sooooo easy to play, mines Sunburst, just got a Tort guard from a fellow BC'er. Will get that fitted over the hols. PM me with an address and I will get it off to you. Cheers.
 23.
http://www.skylarkguitars.com/skylark-mkii...tar-1691-0.html drooooooooool I want!
OOOOooooo. Just about to sign off and spotted this. Very Different! I'm a sucker for anything unusual. OUCH!
 24. A good post. I had a lot of pain in my left hand, a while back - that's how I ended up with all my Short/Medium scale stuff, it was just too much with having to stretch. I may have to have a small operation but I am seeing how it goes at the mo'. Mine is not RSI, I don't think but for a Fiver, I think I would be willing to have a read. Might get myself a copy! Cheers.
 25.
I've seen at least one on sale over here for more than 500 quid. Average price in the US seems to be as Eddie says above. Getting one from there over here probably wouldn't be very cheap. Shame really, as a few weeks back there was a US one on sale (at Craiglist I think) that was red - and that in itself is rare enough, from what I can gather.
As an avid collector of these fine instruments, I can help with some info. The cost to ship over here, usually averages out at about £65.00. Then when it gets here, by whatever method, you get another load of charges. Like this. On top of this, I have bought some great T-40's from the USA and paid a fair price but out of all the ones I have, I have been caught out several times. Bannana neck on one - blamed on the hold pressure and temperature, faulty electrics. "it was fine when it left me" and dings that couldn't be seen or were not declared. All these things are repairable and you can end up with a cracking instrument but after paying the price, the shipping and the charges, that's the last thing you want. Try sorting this out when the seller is thousands of miles away. Hard to believe that this arrived with something sticky (smelled like maple syrup) all over it with both switches faulty. Switches changes and cleaned up, Mmm Nice. They do come up over here and are increasing in value, as more and more people latch onto them, so with the $$$ what it is and all the other things to consider, wait until something comes up. A fair price for a VERY good one, would be £400 ish - to give you an idea of GOOD, the one in the pic above, I sold for £425, to buy my red one. You should get a very nice one for £350 - £400 ish but there are ones that I have seen recently go for £250 ish but these are usually Natural only and got a few miles on the clock. So, all you potential T-40 players out there, start looking.
