Aria tsb
So there's an aria tsb (Thor Sound Bass) on eBay that's tempting me. I'm just after some info on them. What's the tone like? What's the quality like? How does it compare to an SB? Has anyone got any experience with them?
Cocco, it's me again!! We must meet up sometime. I have a TSB650, four aside tuners, two pup, stack controls - great bass to play and to look at. Will get you a pic, if you are interested. I also have a TSB400, as well as some other Aria stuff. Neither of these would stack up against the power of your T-40, although they do have some great tones. Are you entering into a Far Eastern phase? If so, drop me a PM and I'll bore you rigid. Cheers. Flat Eric.
  2. Hi. Nice to hear from you. I have a good friend in Philadephia, been there a couple of times - great place. I share your taste in good British TV. Nice one.
  3. Ahhh, what you need is a T-40! "Plenty of bottom end and lots of tonal variety" That's what you are looking for? Come and join us! Check out Gear Porn, Peavey T-40. I am not "a million" away from you, so if you are interested, PM me and you might be able to have a test drive! Plus. . . . . you could buy 2 good T-40's and still have change for a weekend away. Joking aside, there are so many used classic basses out there, do you really need to lay out all that cash? If you have had the Epi, you could get a Gibson RD Artist, with a few miles on it, Ibanez Musician, Aria SB, or if you wanted something newer, the very punchy Status Groove, or Ibanez SR900/1000, there's loads to choose from.
  4. Hi. There is and "S" Shaped strap, from the US, which apparently sorts the problem out. I am currently looking into them for my Explorer bass, which is a little head heavy. I'll come back to you. Cheers.
  5.
I have something a bit like that. Shown here with two of my genuine Rics:- http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=3770...mp;id=700601843
As I am perhaps the only person remaining, not on Facebook - Could you post a pic? Would love to see it. I have a Reeve 4&6.
  6. More RD! Slightly used.
  7. No Black Eagle, I'm afraid!! Never actually seen one in the flesh. How about these - hopefully they might promote a few more lurkers to post a pic of their pride and joy. Old Thumper These older Blazers don't arf kick out some bass! Ibanez Studio Good Solid Bass, in every respect. A "Can't Remember" Ibanez I'm sure someone will tell me! Great player, with those funny Straplock thingies. Never got round to gigging this - Must try harder, Eric Come on, join in - there must be a lot more Classic Ibanez out there.
  8.
Some possible options to browse through here Bass Player Tone & Technology
Thanks for this - not seen it before, very informative. I shall wade my way through it.
  9. Hi. I've been putting this off until now - hope someone can help. I have various favourite strings for different basses, so I have seen most of them but I have some strings on three different basses, that were on when I bought them. All of the basses sound great with them on, good balanced sound, equal volume. They have black bindings. I have some Labella on an RD, same great sound, pinky/orange packet. The question is, are the others likely to be the same or are there other quality string makers using black bindings? Hope you can help. Cheers.
  10. Hi. I've got that Friday aternoon feeling, so time for a brouse - spotted this. For what it's worth, if anyone is half interested in this bass, I've got one and between me and my four string mates, we all agree that it is a great bass. I bought in in a bit of a deal, (I wanted other things that went with it) and thought it would be a bit of a hack but all of us were very surprised. The right weight, nice neck and great electrics - whisper quiet, better in many repects than a Jaguar I had and sold. They may not be fashion of the month but if anyone is looking for a good honest instrument, you wouldn't go far wrong.
  11.
Couldn't help myself, damn my itchy fingers on ebay! Just bought this.... SB Elite Its labelled as an Elite and looks a lot like one, but could be an odd SB900... we'll see! Steve
Being a great lover of Aria, spotted your post. Well done, I'm sure you will love it. It is an Elite, not a 900 - I am lucky enough to have both. I have two Elites and I think yours is one of the later ones, as one of mine does not have a serial number, as per yours. Great sounds lovely to play. I bought a bass off Nick, a few years ago - he has some great gear. These are mine in last year's sun.
  12. OOooo!! Wow! Just got back from picking up another classic from The Land of the Rising Sun. What a result. Some Very nice basses so far, Keep them coming - there must be loads out there. Stu. Do it! Not a Whole heap of beans and a great bass. Kenny R. Nice one! Jon. I'm sure you must have a big interest in all things Ibanez Nice one! Lefty. Ooo. Nice! Alien: Gorgeous. Very Nice. More, more, more!
  13.
I just bought a black T-40 from Kingforaday and can now safely say that I am no longer in need of any of my other basses, bar just one (and one I keep for sentimental reasons)! I've not played a T-40 since the late '80s, but once I got my hands on one again I was reminded why I liked them so much back then. Put simply, they do everything I need a bass to do in terms of sound and presence. So now I've no more need to fret and fuss over whether various other basses may possibly have what I'm looking for! The amount of different sounds I can get out of it is just brilliant - even tho' I think some of them would destroy my cheap practice amp! And at a more basic level the mix of maple neck, all-black bodywork and all that metalwork just looks fantastic. Of course, the other thing I've remembered was the reason I didn't buy one back in the '80s - back then I was a scrawny 18 year old and the T-40 felt like it weighed more than I did But nowadays the weight is reassuring, in some odd way. It just makes the whole package feel more solid. It's quite amusing seeing it stood next to my two Jazzes. They look very delicate in comparison...
Hi. A very genuine "Welcome on board" Now you have joined The Happy Band of those who are in the know!!. I have looked closely at the bass you now have, it looks like a good one! I will PM you about your question. All the very best, fellow T-40 Player. Cheers. Flat Eric.
  14.
Superb TV last night on the WDR German channel - Rockpalast featuring Tower of Power. Awesome soul/funk band that has been around for over forty years - seriously good bass player.
Shame I missed that!! Some of the bands of that era and genre, had such a great sound and were SO tight. I have almost worn out my "TOP" CD. Anyone Sky+ it? I would love a copy.
  15.
To those who own multiple T-40s. I have an early non rail one, is the difference in tone that massive between it and the railed one? I kinda wish mine had more bite.
Hi. As you know, I have errmm, several!! The Blade pups on the bass and guitar are more powerful than the toasters, although, Blade or Toaster, they do vary slightly, bass to bass. The Toasters are warmer with generally more power than an average passive bass - wind in the Humbucker and watch the VU head towards the red! The blades have more Bark, Bight and power, no doubt. Perhaps the most powerful passive bass I have is a later, Natural, with the BAT switches, that sends everything into the red, if you don't back off the input on the amp. Pic of it in this Gear Porn. If I am using a Toaster (I have a Tanburst, with a rosewood board the I love to play) I use a Boss EQ20 and balance the sound with a Blade T-40. I have also found the running the Toasters through a Behringer BDI 21, adds the bark that I like for most of the set. Turn it off and you have a warmer sound. Horses for courses. I love the warm, deep sound of the Toaster, for more laid back stuff but the Blade cuts through like a knife. So, having said all that, here's something else that may help! As with any stringed instrument, no matter how well it is made, the sound comes from the strings. At one extreme, I have a Toaster with Flats - the ultimate in Dub - but to improve the bight on a Toaster, I have D'Addario on one, Elites on another and although not top of the list on most players choice. . . . . . . Picato, on another, which I think are my favourites. I am using these on a lot of my other stuff. Not an Arm & a Leg and very nice to play. If I ever find myself round your way, as you are a big fan of the T-40, we could perhaps arrange a meet and I'll bring a Blade with me. Cheers.
  16.
Yes. I'm very happy with it! Just waiting to see how it sounds with the band after its new setup. Build is fantastically good - amazing how good the action is considering the beating it seems to have got over its 31 year lifespan.. Perhaps you should just start a new thread for classic Ibbys on the Gear Porn section.
Sorted. Go to Gear Porn, "Classic Ibanez"
  17. Classic Ibanez - '74 to '85 As there are a lot of Classic Ibanez out there, I thought I would start a section for all Ibanez Basses made between 1974 to 1985, or thereabouts? I'll kick off with a couple. First up is something you don't see very often and took me ages to find one. Great "Piano-Like" tones and surprisingly easy to get on with. The next is again, something that took me a long while to find and almost as long to find a case that fitted!! There, that sould get us started. Fire away!!
  18.
My Ibanez Roadster RS800 BS 1979 !! So, after endless dramas about paying for this guitar in the first place, then thinking it was maybe too heavy for me and having some trouble with string tone, I decided to spend a small amount of time fixing it up. I cleaned it up, added new knobs, shielded the control compartment with copper foil (as it was prone to buzzing when near the amp), swapped the strings for DR Extra Life Red Devils, bought a new extra comfort strap (plus Schaller locks), set intonation and string height, and tweaked the pickup height. It now sounds absoultely beautiful - A real punchy Phil Lynott sound Here it is in all its glory:
Great Bass, I have one the same as yours - Very Punchy. Hang on to it, they're not too many around. I Love all the the Classic Ibanez, I tried to find an Ibanez section in Gear Porn but haven't seen one. Point me in the right direction and I'll put up some Classic Ibanez. Cheers.
  19.
Any New FlatEric?
Sent you a PM. Will try and sort it for you. Cheers.
  20. Mmm, a question often asked, I'm sure. I have a similar thing going and I supose it's not recent. I am lucky enough to have all sorts of things to play but I have learned over the years that £$£$ doesn't always mean something that you can bond with. I have mentioned this in another thread, in the past so sorry if I am repeating myself. I have only ever bought 4 new basses, all of the others are used. I spent quite a lot on one of the first Sunburst Jaguars - just couldn't get on with it. Some of the used ones I enjoy most, were less than £400 but amongst some of my favourties, there are some cracking basses at less than half that and a few at less than that. As always, best thing to do is, pick it up, play it accoustically, stand up with it, is it comfortable, pug it in, fiddle with the controls to get a sound you play play a couple of favourite pieces. Light your fire? Great! If not, move it on. I too, am enchanted with some really nice instruments that cost me very little. Enjoy it.
  21.
+1
+1 - Plus, OOooo Too Heavy!! I had a similar idea and got this bass version Case for 2 basses Thinking it would be easier to move around (got wheels) it's Bl***y heavy carrying it up stairs. Only used it twice! On reflection, it is much easier to handle them individually.
  22.
You are not kidding. That's worth a bob or two. Jon.
Mmm, as you have said that, I did a bit of research. See this. Yi Yi Yi - Destroyer Bass For Sale If only my case was better!!! There isn't much about these, I did see this Destroyer Bass Feature some time ago. I have now found the strap the I was looking for, so I am going to try it out and report back. Any pics of others??
  23.
That's a lovely bass, and like you said, a real rarity. I have a question about the trouble you had finding a case. I was under the impression Epiphone had a hard case for their Explorer basses. Were you aware of these, or were they not suitable?
Hi. Yes, I tried to go down that route but although they were advertised, when I tried to buy one, they were "out of stock". I almost bought an Epiphone Explorer - with a case, just for the case (sell the bass off) but missed it!! I even thought about a keyboard case but thankfully held out for something more practical. I bumped my post in items wanted, several times, when I first joined up but no one could help. So, if you're after one and it comes up for sale, grab it before I do, as a spare!!! The main thing is, I've got one now. Cheers.
  24. Hi. Hope someone can help! This is my Rare Ibanez Destroyer 2495B, 1976 and after searching for the last couple of years, I have found a case that fits it perfectly. Yipee!! So. . . . . I can gig with it now! Well, perhaps. For all you seasoned Firebird players and similar basses, you are no doubt used to it being a little neck heavy. Yes? Well, somewhere I have seen an "S" shaped strap that helps ease the problem and makes it much more stable. The thing is. . . I can't remember who does it/where I have seen it! I think it is a USA product. Any Ideas?? Hoping you can help. Cheers. Anyone else got one? Would love to see some pics.
  25. Hi. Not hard to say but subjective. I have all sorts of things to match it against but to say it is like a Jazz, EBO, Precision, Status, Ric is sort of wide of the mark. I know you are a big fan of the T-40, as am I - how would you sum that up? All I can say is, it is tiny, compared to a T-40, shorter scale - fast - with a whole load of sounds. As I said in one of my posts, it teaches you how important the position of a pick-up is. Same PUP, different position LOTS of different sounds. As a gigging instrument, rare as hens teeth. Cheers.
