why do you want a light top? Personally I don't mind something heavier, and heavy woods do tend to look nicer in my opinion. Mahogany can actually be not too heavy (well, not if compared to basswood, alder et similia). The reason you want a light top would affect my recommendations. r5
hahaha matey, matey i mean light as in a lighter colour wood but im not arsed now,i went round and checked the wood agen earlier and i may decide to go for a really dark top an yes i do love heavy basses too much like my jazz but even thats not eceptionally heavy =P

hahaha cheers dude thats great =]] i use warmoth but i didnt know they said about the woods thanks lol its very muchly appreciated
Welcome to the world of ERB, so many possibilities I've had a six for about 11 years and it's my main bass for most gigs. As well as the people mentioned above, I'd like to add a couple of jazz sixers - Mike Pope and Todd Johnson (the master of jazz chord arrangements). For higher number of strings, my personal fave is Yves Carbonne - I think he's now on 12 (or maybe more) and it's fretless. Regardless of the visual "wow factor", his intonation is near perfect and he's playing some beautiful compositions. Trip Wamsley has also done some beautiful music on 8 string. Cheers, Alun
hahaha awsome, im bettin ur pretty [push in the truck]in awsome yourself! oooo jazz sixers now that, i wil look into very muchly! an yeah Yves Carbonne is playin a 12 at the moment hehehe cheers my good friend
Chords. Yum. With an ERB you can cover the roles of bass, keys and guitar in one instrument. Amazing. You should consider copping a lot of ideas about various chord voicings and things from keys players and guitarists.
yeah im doin alot off of fun chordy stuff at the moment =] its gettin ma finger style alot better as well an sounds awwwwsome cheers for the advice =]

ok guys, ive just started with my new six string bass and i cant really find many six string bassists to inspire me, so far ive got the dream theater (john myung) songs and im currently work on them i also write alot of my own stuff so some solo artists are quite handy but the noticed ones are usually sick like adam nitti lol i have absoultly huge hands so i can reach the B string with ease so dont worry about that do you guys know any fairly good six string bassists, (in a band or solo artists) that are good to check out for learning material??? and im not particularly bothered about what type of music the pay as ong as its fairly busy and not really boring to play! cheers guys x
