1. ....shops did "packs" for bassists who wanted to change the appearence of their basses? for example, i'm assembling a geddy type jazz with black hardware, but it'd be great if i could buy a pack containing a black guard, plates, bridge, heads etc. i was lucky enough that when i was in the states a while back i was in a store that sold dimarzio spares so i picked up black neck screws, and pickguard screws. you'd be amazed at how something small like screws can have an effect on the look of a bass. i was gonna go with a black guard, but i got a white one to tide me over, and the black screws really set it off. now i'm torn between a single ply black guard or a white pearl! anyone know of anywhere that does packs like that?
2. I recently got a badass II thrown in with a deal. its a chrome one, and i'll be keeping for a while until i can sell it or trade it for a black one. It came without screws so i'd like to get some for it. could a badass II owner chime in with the screw measurements? what i'm looking for is: length width width of screw head so i can go to my local hardware shop and get the exact ones to fit. thanks!
3. looks great, what polish did you use? mine looks so dull
4. korn hit big when i was 20, so i studied his style at the time, from memory i can remember: as mentioned, no mids, low tuning. think of him as a percussion player first. with two 7 string guitarists in the band, he has to fit in somewhere. with that in mind there are a lot of times when his lines are all left and right hand mutes. he's also used a flamenco styled right hand rake at times. the "got the life" verse section is a good example of this. I'd always assumed he tuned a full step down like the guitars (ADGCF) and you certainly can do the same, but i remember reading an article saying his tuning had some flats in it....but i'm not convinced. never heard of him miking the tweeter, but it doesnt surprise me.
5. for my first "assembly" (its unfair to say build as i'm assembling from parts) which is a custom geddy (geddy body/allparts neck) i'm decking the bass out in black hardware. i'm looking for a decent affordable (read cheap) set of pegs, with bushings that will fit an allparts neck with vintage holes. can anyone recommend me any?
6. are any of the geddy scratchplates left? i'm interested in the pearl or off white one.
7.
Welcome from up north - of Ireland that is. Whereabouts you based in our fine wee country?
midlands, down south!
8.
Is that actually Justin Chancellors gear he's using, or is he just a serious fanboy? Lovely tone.
he's a serious fanboy. he's replicated all of justins gear
Just listening to Vicarious from '10,000 Days'....absolute stunner!
the actual song, or just the bass track, cos i've got the bass on its own, the tone is immense!
9. heres the actual bass track from the song on its own. Link and heres a link to the most accurate tab of the song i've found. i've played this song millions of times. here's a few tips. 1. play it with a pick (you really do have to, to get it close to sounding like Justin) 2. the 10 - 12 hammer ons are key to getting the riff sounding right 3. try and get plenty of mid to mimic justins wal (tough i know) 4. the bass and vocals follow each other very closely for a lot of this song, esp the verses. The video you linked to is by brad of tooltabs.net, a site i frequent. they take the piss out of noobs something fierce, but if you need any help with tool related stuff , i'm your man. brads videos are normally very accurate (a lot of times i give him sh*t if i disagree with what he plays, but its respectful )
10.
The bridge turned up today from Howard & it's spot-on. About twice the weight of the rubber one & not about to bend in a hurry. Very keen to get cracking with this now! J.
Hey there, just joined today and saw your thread. I have the exact same track II with the exact same problems. I inherited it from an old boss, so it cost me nothing. it all works, except the bridge has a split at the A string, and it was missing the toggle switch. Where did you get your replacement bridge from? and how much did it cost? If we can help each other in any way about these basses, just let me know.
11. Just joined up, heard about this place from talkbass. I currently own a 98 stingray, a schecter studio 4 fretless, a washburn semi acoustic, a westbury track 2 and my current build is a custom geddy lee. hello!
