1. do you like my new signature?
2.
Fair point! You know how much I agonised over your Status, and TBH about a minute after you sold it I was kicking myself I have a love/hate with active, and even with graphite (which must make you wonder "why a Flea?"). The Flea however came up whilst the bruises were still forming! If it were passive I'd probably be even happier, although I've no doubt I can get a bypass if needed. Chris
Just to rub salt into the wounds, didn't you know the Status Groove has a bypass switch for the active EQ?
3. TBH - I'd love to have a collection of inexpensive basses and guitars but currently I've downsized to just having my Squier VM 70s Jazz, Warwick Streamer Std 2 and my electric and acoustic guitars. The entire Squier VM range actually looks pretty sweet to me right now, thankfully I don't have the space, well maybe i could squeeze in a VM fretless Jazz!
4.
That's why I love Precisions Lack of need hasn't stoped me forking out on a brand new Modulus this week though
So much for being a passive man then
5. That was very cool playing - I didn't realise it was Charlie Hunter, I've liked his stuff since he was on the Disposable Heroes of Hiphoprisy album. Those Novak instruments are very cool.
6. Dr Dave - is a total gent, accepted my change of payment method without issue. I got my Bad Ass 2 from him ASAP. Good job sir. Doc B
7. Are the Squier Vintage Modified Series your sort of thing? I just got a 70s style jazz with maple board and block markers. The Telecaster type bass is cool too.

Gear!

Sure you are - I thought that 2 years ago when I got my Nemesis NC410 and Status bass - I've moved both on now and have just bought a Squier VM Jazz, and so it goes, and so it goes and so it goes, where it stops nobody knows...
9.
Why do you need to wear a condom?
You need all the protection you can get these days
10. We've got a conservatory in our house and I've noticed that the birch ply furniture we have has taken on a much deeper colour and more pronounced grain than the other birch furniture elsewhere in the house. So I was thinking - would it be possible to do something similar with the wood on a bass as long as the temperature didn't rise too much to avoid warping etc. I'm thinking that the grain on my Squier VM Jazz (maple neck, maple body) would develop very nicely in the winter sun closer to the end of the year.
11.
I got a Hipshot BT-2 (from Thomann) on me Geddy Lee. If you are unsure about which model you need, try asking Hipshot directly, they are really helpful - I rounded grub screw off by using what was supposedly a 1/16" allen key (thanks B&Q) and they sent me 2 new grub screws & a 1/16" allen key for nowt. As for going lite, I wouldn't, them necks are skinny enough! (IMO) And 84's are les couilles du chien mush, if you're thinking Wizards (IMO again). Speak to Andy, tell him what you want and he'll tell you what you need...
Spoke to Andy @ Wizard and he recommended the 64s - I play a lot of chords and drone notes and they are a bit less bassy. I'll check out Thomann for the Hipshot
12. For the past few days I've been unable to get Joy Division's 'Digital' out of my head - hypnotic bass and vocals. I mentioned this to my wife and she suggested putting the song on when we got home - so I dug out my Joy Division Substance CD (the first CD I ever bought). Next thing I picked up my new Squier VM 70s Jazz and worked out the bassline, closely followed the line for Transmission. Lovely!
13. Stu Hamm, Billy Sheehan and TM Stevens Their signature basses are all rank too.... Pulls on flak jacket, kevlar helmet and a Trojan....
14. Sold him my Kent Armstrong Soapbar - nice and quick, no fuss - top guy.

+1 from me
16. I got an electronic tuner as a present not long after I got my first bass and although it was great, it did mean I didn't learn to tune by ear properly for a very long time. I now usually tune my basses by ear using the 5th and 7th fret harmonics. I use my little Korg tuner a lot as I record my playing a lot and it would be a nightmare if I wasn't tuned to pitch when I want to add a guitar or bass part. All the bands I've been in have tuned to my e-string as they've seen me with my tuner.
17. I also found bassworld via a Google search, although I can't remember what the search was for, eventually found my way here.
18.
Yes, my toes. Would have been strange had they been someone else's If you like maple, this is for sale (I sold the '73 in it's original configuration). It's the '74 body/'78 neck. Wizard Thumper PUP. Very sexy B neck. Very nice bass all round. Would have swapped it for your Status thinking about it.... Chris
Too late - I've got my Squier VM 70s Jazz now and enough cash to buy the upgrades I want for it and a macro lens too. Would've been nice to have a bass of similar vintage to myself: born in 1974!
19. Ok - so now I've got a BadAss 2 on the way and I'm on the verge of ordering a set of Wizard 64s, I now need to decide on which tuning machines to buy, and where from. I am considering a D-Tuner/Bass XTender key for the low E on both my Jazz and my Streamer Std so I was wondering if Hipshot would be the best all round bet as I could reduce postage by getting everything at once. Would it be best to order direct from Hishot's website or are their better places to buy from? Which model of machines will fit a Squier VM Jazz? Are the Lite versions of the trad machines worth the extra cost? I'm also worried that losing mass at the headstock could adversely affect tone.
20. Nice I used to have a Hohner B Bass V - which is pretty much like a through neck version of yours. Great basses - real bargains
21. That 2 tone 'burst with the gold scratchplate is lovely - I'm into maple boards these days! Is that your toes in the pic too?
22. These are just a few quick snaps - I'm planning some better quality shots as part of my photography course. I'm also getting some modifications done to the Jazz (Bass Ass 2 bridge, Wizard pups, possibly a series/parallel switch and a D-tuner). My trusty old Warwick Streamer Std II is to the right. Here's some better quality shots of some of my other musical stuff (warning - these shots contain no basses) My Yamaha AEX 500 guitar My Sure SM58

Pimp my Jazz
i luuurve my flamey necked VMJ! Its def rattlier than my fenders, but darn for the money its an Uber steal! Mines in the bass porn section
I know - I've had a right good look at it - kind of inspired what I want to do. I'm considering the wizards 64s as I don't need that much output.
24. I got myself one of those lovely Squier VM 70's Jazzes with maple board, blonde maple body and black plate yesterday to keep my Streamer Std company. Now the VM Jazz is great but not quite as good as my German made Streamer so I would like to make a few upgrayyeds starting with a BadAss of some description and maybe some better pups (passive though). I'll also be getting a full pro set up done on it once I get all the new bits. Any other suggestions?
25. And it's a hi from High Blantyre too
