Up for sale is my Vintage Modified PJ bass. It is in immaculate condition aside from the screw holes where the previous owner installed an ashtray to the bass. It was setup by my technician last week so is ready to go with fresh roundwounds and has a fantastic low action. It also benefits from having the P pickup upgraded to a Seymour Duncan SPB2 which adds some real meat to the sound with the original pickup included in the sale. Also included is the original black pickguard if you prefer your stylings more traditional and a ashtray and cover to complete the look. All in all i have been blown away by the value offered by this bass, it weighs in at almost spot on 8lbs with good balance. The neck is a delight to play, especially for those that prefer a slimmer precision neck, to me it feels quite shallow making it easy to zip round. These things are about £280 new without the upgraded pickups, pickguard and chrome cover so pretty bargainous even if I do say so. Given that its so amazing why am I selling? Because bills have arrived and I'm awaiting news on a job which I'm not entirely convinced I will get. Any questions let me know. Good point, they look exactly like these.. http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/hot-p-bass-pickup-enclosed-cover-2248-p.asp Also, as these are the only set within the Kent Armstrong range currently with enclosed cover it leads me to think it might be them.

I'm currently trying to identify the pickups that came as part of the deal that saw me get a Shuker PJ. I was advised they were a Kent Armstrong set and have no reason to disbelieve the seller however it would be good to know as I intend to move them on now as the tone is not doing it for me. Any suggestions welcome.

I've been working with one bass since the turn of the year and have found myself lusting after a second bass to add some variety to the tone, enter the Squier Vintage Modified PJ. I'd been hawking basschat for the last 2 weeks but I spotted this on Gumtree today and got myself round sharpish to take a look and what can I say, I took it home! The description said it was as new and he was spot on, not a mark on the thing. Its the quality that I found impressive though, the neck feels wonderful in the hand, almost as nice as my Nate Mendel perhaps. Its also perfectly balanced and the custom scratchplate and ashtray aren't bad either! I have heard lots of praise from here and our neighbours across the pond on these basses but I felt that it was probably unwarranted and probably only good "for the price". This has truly blown my expectations out of the water. The only real downside is the pickups sound weaker than the SPB3's in the NM which is to be expected. The Jazz p/up however seems particularly flat and not adding much to the tone when added or subtracted. No matter as I intend to change these over to a pair of Kent Armstrongs I've had knocking around for a couple of years anyway. All in all well chuffed with the buy, thats that itch scratched for now.. Now for your viewing pleasure.. [attachment=186583:pj.jpg] [attachment=186582:pj (1).jpg]

Out of interest, would it be worth upgrading the pickups and preamp? I've been interested in trying a Ray but prefer the slimmer neck.

DON'T have a skinfull the night before and get in at 7am then try to drink through it, the hangover WILL land just before you go on..

I also have the Nate Mendel, great bass, very light also if that's your sort of thing. The neck is slimmer than usual precision's as is mentioned but to me its more about the shallowness of the neck which makes it seem easier to get around. It is nitro finish and also has the very cool 70's fender precision logo. Finally, it had all the upgrades I would have made anyway without having to do anything. I wouldn't say its completely cured my GAS but it has convinced me to get down to one bass as nothing else felt or sounded as good.
