1. can't beat a big ol heavy head. I've got rid of my lightweight heads and gone with an old SWR 700 head, weighs a ton with the flightcase but sounds huge.
2. I find by the end of some particularly loud gigs, my hearing is shot and what started out as a lovely fat deep tone has degenerated into a horrible honky middy, trebbly racket with no bottom end. Its a bit disconcerting cos i think its the amp or cabs but it's not, its my ears have fatigue. I've tried wearing AC plugs (which i use for rehersals and are great BTW) but for gigs, the excitement and dynamics of loud music get lost and I can't stand using them. The soloution? Everybody turn down of course but the guitarist is an idiot and doesn't want to loose that "sweet" spot at a particular volume...."sigh"....
3. i thought this thread was going to be right up my street re: not getting any action
4. i think the bareknuckle range are supposed to be fab, but pricey, https://bareknucklepickups.co.uk/main/pickups.php?cat=bass&sub=vintage&pickup=60_hf&series=j_bass
5. Wizard 64's and 84's get good reviews here and at £42 are cheaper than the SD's but i don't think they are as hot output as the quarter pounders, although i could be wrong. Wizards are 11.5 K Ohms, SD quarter pounders are 13.9 and 14.6 K ohms, so deffo hotter outputs http://www.wizardpic...einfo.asp?id=43 http://www.seymourdu...om/comparetones I use the quarter pounders on my JV P/J and its certainly got more output than my jazz with fender pups, not necessarily a better tone, but hotter.

7. get a cheap second hand jap one and gig it to death, make it work for it's money!
8. class! http://www.songsterr.com/a/wsa/grease-you-re-the-one-that-i-want-bass-tab-s36879t0
9.
Here's our Evete.
Very Tony Ferrino http://youtu.be/qePPPFANVPU
10. http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_sacat=0&_from=R40&_nkw=m+audio+keyboard&LH_Auction=1 These are good value, pick up an 88 key semi weighted one for about £150, i think i remember they had about 7 stock sounds including a good grand piano, rhodes and hammomd B3, but they also had a midi usb interface you can use with a laptop and VST soft synths. But im sure someone may recommend something else, probably a Yamaha!
11.
+1 i was sacked by email in January from a Kate Bush Tribute band. Great music but completely inexperienced arses. I was better off out!
saw the ad for a new bass playa on lemonrock! Glad i never went for it!
12. Well that was a revelation. Im afraid in my ignorance i had never heard of the guy, but by God, what a voice and his band were unbelievable too! Thanks BBC.
13. wow, whatever floats your boat, just saying i prefer it to other DAWs ive used, thats all. I believe the OP would probably want something fairly simple to use for fairly basic stuff.
14. Tracktion 4 is excellent and very intuitive, everything fits on the one page. http://www.tracktion.com/
15. also bang an ad on the lemonrock forum, theres loads of SW bands on it
16. So good gig last night, but to my (one) ear the bottom E sounded huge and fat and juicy but the others all seemed to disappear in the mix. This doesnt always happen but seemed particularly noticeable last night. All the eq was the same (SWR 700 head into Kappalite 115) all set roughly to 12 o'clock with the bass enhancer on (actually, maybe that was the problem!) Does anyone else ever get this problem now and again?
17. Thanks for the heads up! Just spent this morning learning that bass line to alright Now, harder than i thought!!
18. PS, as you said, if you're going to DI to the PA for louder gigs (like I do) then as long as your backline cab gives you the monitoring you need to hear yourself on stage then the 8 ohm cab possibly gives you more future options.
19. so the markbass 4 ohm cab will give you the full 500watts but if you ever in the future decide you need another cab, I would go for the 8 ohm cab. Although it will give you about 300 watts, the difference in actual volume won't be massive, but i have a hunch that 2 x 8 ohm cabs will give you a better sound than 1 x 4 ohm cab.
20. might be worth setting your strap length to the same height as when you're playing sitting down, (ie don't have the bass down by your knees!)
21. well to be honest, £350 would probably get you a nice used MIM or even a MIJ/CIJ Fender P Thats what i'd go for!
22. As Phil knows, i upgraded my Warwick 115 to an eminence kappalite and got a massive improvement in sound, don't think you will be disappointed. Might have to run them in for a bit though?
