Compact mixing desks - what are you using?
skidder652003 replied to Al Krow's topic in PA set up and use
Zoom LiveTrack L-20. Looks and acts a little like an analogue desk but also doubles up as a 20 discrete channel input DAW, recordable on usb drive, memory card or direct to laptop via usb cable. We record all our gigs and play with them later in Reaper or Harrison mixbus. Also has bluetooth to tablet for wandering about mixing. Great preamps and fx, gates, 16 standalone compressors, 3 band mid parametric eq etc.. scene setting for recalling each venue so less messing about in regular venues. 6 monitor mixes with each one an individual mix Yes I am a fanboi! only downside so far is the power supply is a bit flimsy https://zoomcorp.com/en/gb/digital-mixer-multi-track-recorders/digital-mixer-recorder/livetrak-l-20/ -

theres a wicked Peavey TNT 130 bass combo with Black Widow 15” speaker on castors for £90 on FB marketplace, but I couldn't possibly comment on who's selling it... -

don't remotely suppose anyone ever managed to approximate an organ sound aka the electro harmonix B9 or C9???
-
same here, needed a new phaser pedal and thought for the same money get a used B1four. Handy little thing.
-
I hope so. We have 2 x 315 RCF Tops and 2 x 315 RCF wedge monitors (The same as the tops) so hoping for a decent level of clarity and punch. Everything mic'd up apart from Markbass combo which is DI.

We have an 18" Mackie Thump powered sub. Frankly I've never liked it and think it sounds pants. So we have just purchased 2 of these https://www.pmtonline.co.uk/hh-hps115-active-subwoofer-1400w £350 each. No idea if they will be any good, but the price and 5 year warranty is attractive so we will be outing them next weekend. I will report back if anyone is interested.

Sennheiser e935 all day long, much better than the 58 or Beta IMO

electro Harmonix B9 or C9, anyone tried 'em?
skidder652003 replied to skidder652003's topic in Effects
brilliant, thank you. Can you blend the signal so more bass with just a hint of organ/keys background? -
So we do this shine on you crazy diamond/Floyd thing as well as some other proggy stuff in our set (Hocus Pocus for instance). I'd love a keys player but as that isn't going to happen any time soon I was considering using one of the above pedals to add a little organ blend. Anyone been down this road with either the C9 or B9 and if so, did it work? I know they are really designed for geetar but I've seen a couple of (dodgy) YouTube demos on bass. They're pretty pricey even used so I'd like a bit of feedback before biting the bullet. Thanks!

Rock n Roll! Seriously though, I'd tell them its not unreasonable to hold a 3 hour rehearsal once every three weeks at low volume and a 3 minute walk away from the main house! But as a courtesy we will inform you as and when that will be, so you can make suitable arrangements. -
I've edited a track using wrong sample rate, what can I do to fix it?

without wanting to sound sarcy (failed) I think your real problem is ProTools! -
very happy with my Laney Digbeth £125 new, XLR out with FET and TUBE options https://www.gak.co.uk/en/laney-db-pre-digbeth-bass-preamp-pedal?gclid=Cj0KCQjwuaiXBhCCARIsAKZLt3lnghnTNl-6y6CHmY-iXXYm-0CYKg3b6g_9LZIHsOfw-ger-2lVessaAhhFEALw_wcB&gclsrc=aw.ds

Sounds a bit knackered to me! I use a zoom H2n and a q2n with my loud rock band (marshall 412, ampeg stack etc) and it only distorts if the gain input is set to auto or over half way. I usually set it about 3 out of 10 and its good to go. Any chance you could borrow something similar to test it against?
-
surely if the gain is set really low, like -12dB its not going to distort? Always easier to bump up a quiet signal than try and work with a distorted too loud one?

£400 would get you a decent used iMac, great screen, decent power and holds its value https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/593456492157894?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3A018f4900-df4e-43b5-9057-7c1678214c22 -
Small Video Camera to clip on to my bass headstock.
skidder652003 replied to jazzyvee's topic in Accessories and Misc
Zooms have good audio but IMO terrible video. The Chinese GoPro copies tend to (again IMO) do the opposite, good video but awful sound Never used a proper GoPro so couldn't comment on the sound quality. I sometimes use a canon 5D DSLR, amazing video and not actually bad sound (not as good as the zoom though) Everything is a compromise between audio and video. I've yet to find or afford an all in one solution. So for now, videos are recorded with cheap Chinese goPros (as Silvia mentioned, using a DSLR as well really shows up the difference against these GoPro copies so I tend not to use the canon these days) As for sound, we use a combination of stems from our new zoom livetrack L-20 (highly recommended by the way, preamps are fab) and a tiny smattering of a zoom Q2n for a little ambient crowd noise. The livetrack stems get mixed in Reaper as does the Video, so it's all relatively easy to edit in one DAW. No transferring to DaVinci resolve for example. I'll mix the stems first in reaper and render down to a master track. I've used up to 4 different cameras in some edits, running in multiple timelines along with the mastered audio, all in Reaper. Nothing fancy, just cuts between each camera. sorry....what was the original post? Went off on a bit of a ramble there! Ah yes camera for headstock with good audio and sound? Probably best to try and borrow a proper GoPro. I believe the battery may be good for 2.5 hours and the sound may be ok? What about a high end mobile phone? I imagine the recorded sound and video on an Iphone 13 would be pretty decent? -

Laney Digbeth and Black Country pedals
skidder652003 replied to mario_buoninfante's topic in Effects
I have the Laney Digbeth. I like it. very quiet in the chain, does a nice tube gain. single mosfet or tube or blend them together if desired. XLR out to the desk. Tone Blend knob works really well, lots of options. solid as a brick Its replaced my DHA VT-EQ2 so it can't be bad. I also use a TU 3 tuner at the start of the chain for buffering.
