5. 2nd hand would be the way to go methinks!
6. email and / or Fb have been the kiss of death IMo for getting gigs. A phone call at the very least or in person always works best. The best time i usually find is about 11.30 in the morning just before the pub opens, the landlord is (usually) sober and free for a few minutes, had his/her breakfast and generally in a bearable mood.
7. just called a pub (its now 8.30pm on a wet wednesday) we played in last week for some dates next year and the landlady said i had called at a bad/awkward time ( corries on the telly I guess) and when I asked her for a good time to to call she said "daytime or evenings are best"...eh? !!!!!
8. Yep big up to KiOgon, transformed my bass!

10. ha ha my bass face is horrible, tongue sticks out, one eye wonky, its bad but i cant control it!
11. with a feedback of 2 (both for buying, not selling) - no thanks!
12. cheaper gettin' to exeter n' new york boye! Tho axe might cost ee more!
13.
Skidder, I agree with a previous post- try without your Compressore. My EBS compressor takes most the low end out of my rig but sits tightly in the mix.
sometimes i cut the compressor (during quieter moments in the set so theres more control over how much pressure i play with) and it doesn't suddenly make the air move - so to speak; so i dont think its that. Im starting to think that its my position to the speaker, I didnt get the chance to stand out front from the speaker during the sound check, thats not going to happen next time! I will defo move out a bit and see if that makes a difference. I'll still have to play right in front (thats the limitation of no band space in a titchy pub!) of the cabs but if the punters can feel it, thats fine
14. cabs stacked vertically, warwick on the bottom (its bigger) about half a meter from back wall, pub was small with low ceilings, beams, horse brasses etc! Quite busy as well so maybe bodies soaked it up, dunno? Will try angling the cabs inwards a bit more next time, thanks for that, what about strings? Using cheapo stringsdirect own brand, light/medium gauge, saying that, tried rotos, dunlop etc, didnt make much difference, but that a whole other thread! thanks for all suggestions by the way
15. dont think anyone tinkered with the warwick (i got the ashdown from new), will try messing with the comprerssore settings although theyre all pretty much a 12 o'clock and dont alter the sound too much as they're pretty transparent and subtle pedals. Im thinking standing so close to the speakers (as you do in these poxy tiny pubs) means you dont get the full effect of the air being moved, or is that cobblers?
16. HI guys ok so last night we're playing at the old Bell Inn and im using my Ampeg PF-500 with good old Dave Hall's VT-2 Pre pedal and a markbass Compressore through 2 x 15's @ 650 w @ 4 ohm combined (one a Warwick and the other an Ashdown). Got the PF turned up to midway on both vol and gain, got the mids and treble up half way and the bass up to 2 o'clock (ie two thirds up). Im thinking this is surely gonna move some air and get the bottom of the jeans flapping (and into the bargain get some ladies dancing!). But from where i was standing, ie about 3 feet in front of the speakers it still felt underpowered. I couldnt feel that vibration in the chest, if you know what i mean? Sure it was loud but just.....not rich...and....whats the word...? So, is it the speakers, settings? Or maybe from that small distance from the speakers you can't really feel the force so to speak, perhaps the punters could feel it further away? Is that how it works, dunno? Sorry a bit of a ramble but cant work out why i cant feel the damn thing, surely theres enough juice?
17. Morning all Got a lovely Taylor big baby Acoustic with Taylor padded gig bag just sitting upstairs never getting used. Im after a trade for another bass, Im open to all offers! 19. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xX1A2aDJugA&feature=relateIts all here guys
20. Not really any difference IMO, I guess open mics tend to be more acoustic where i live and Jam Nights can sometimes have a drum kit and be a bit more "rock" ie sad old geezers playing crossroads ad nauseum!
21. I use an old 80s pedal by a Jap company called Phase. Its a flanger and its analogue heaven. Also have a BYOC analogue delay, also amazing (though dont really use it). Cant beat those old 70s / 80s pedals!
