2. £800? You lucky s*d! With that much the skys the limit! EBS, David Eden, Aguilar all pretty reliable aren't they?

(they are fab by the way)
+1 theyre ace, loads nicer than the stock fender sh**e
 5. i think the PF 500 will have that ampeg sound, but im sure purists will tell you its nothing like the valve driven tone of a classic SVT. I preamp mine with a dave hall valve pedal and im pretty happy with the sound now.
 6. sounds faulty to me! Never had that with my PF 500 with gain and volume at 2 o'clock or higher, send it back, heard some units are faulty.
 7.
If the OP is determined to buy new and doesn't yet know enough about guitars to be able to pick out a good one from a range of less good instruments, then IMO the Yamaha would be the safest bet. Has anyone ever come across a duff new Yamaha guitar or bass?
nope!
 8. 9.
never realised how much each amp has its own sound until i got my Ampeg and then heard Geddy coming out my speakers (in tone, regretfully not in technique!)
ha ha just realised what i said...

 11. [sub]Good Review, I have the same and had problems getting the sound i want, but found cranking the bass right up with some mids into 2 1x15's gives me almost the sound im after. Never having owned an ampeg before i was really surprised at how definative the "ampeg" sound is, but ive got used to it and rather like it! Dont rate the compressor much so i use a markbass compressore and one of Dave Halls valve pre amp pedals. I keep mine in a laptop bag which it fits perfectly.[/sub]

A bit ignorant when it comes to these.

 17.
If I saw a grown up playing that I wouldn't like it. Midget, dwarf or disabled child I still don't like it. Making my toes curl. And not in a good way.
as opposed the the "jesters shoes" good way?
 18. i think for an eleven year old, he's an incredible talent, once the flashy "look at me" stuff wears thin I imagine he'll grow into an amazing musician.
