well chagfords pretty remote (you're in 'proper' dartmoor country!) The nearest proper live music scene is either Newton abbot, Torbay or Teignmouth, oh and plymouth and exeter, all about 30-40 minutes away. There is live music in Chagford - i think its the ring of bells, but its all a big folk scene in that area (similar to Totnes, again 40 minutes away). Beautiful location but beware, a rock n roll graveyard!

45-105 should be fine. I found 50-110's a bit too heavy if theres any widdly involved! these are a good bet just to try em out as they're only £7.95 a set! grab some isopropyl alchohol online (about £6) and wipe em down after every use,they last a lot longer than boiling them!

about 4m i think. Too much length (oh err missus) drives me nuts in the pissy spaces that pubs give you to play in. In fact 2m would probably be enough in most of em!

well...im running 4 x 10 and 1 x 15 with the PF-500 portaflex and im not too happy with the results. Plenty loud bot not much punch in the band mix, guitarist using mesa rectifier and drummer mic'd up to his own PA. I struggle to cut through but i think the problem is low quality cabs ( ashdown and bullfrog(?)) Anyhow i think the answer is to look at Bareface cabs, specifically the super twin 12. Ive read some pretty amazing reviews of their stuff, so it might be worth investigating?

well i use the VT2 eq with an ampeg PF -500 into a 1 x 15 & 4 x 10 and it makes a hell of a difference to the sound IMO. Much more valvey warmth than straight into the ampeg, plus a great option to dig in to the overdrive with the "red" channel. I would never sell mine (unless i got an ampeg VR of course!)

I ended up forming a band myself to play the style i wanted and found the people I liked rather than the other way round. Dont whatever you do just stay in a band cos you're worried about not being in one - you'll just stay unhappy! Something is always waiting round the corner

i think the SJB's come with some instructions and a wiring diagram? I got the Seymour duncan P bass Quarter pounder pups and they came with fitting instructions and a simple wiring diagram that was easy to follow. I soldered em in 5 minutes, still working!

markbass compressore is awesome, but might be too "transparent" for your needs!

Eeeeek! Having drunk too much wine with my Debit card within too easy reach, Ive just splashed out £60 squid on some SPB-3 P bass Pups for my 83 JV P Bass. Ive always thought the stock fenders sounded pis*y and harsh to my (one) ear and didnt cut it in the mix with the band. Anyone tried these suckers out? Lots of good reviews out there of course but nice to hear it from gigging musos rather than bedroom twiddlers...
