  1. always slightly regret trading my '82 JV , it was a fine instrument, mind you the '75 fender P I traded it for is far better.
  2. Popcorn on standby in the microwave....
  3. All Glitter and stack knobs, or in old money, all fur coat and no knickers..

more than alright, thats a great bit of kit

I think only valve amps need a load, you'll be fine, save you a load of hassle too! I've just ordered another 15" powered speaker/monitor for our PA that'll be using more often with a DI instead of a backline more often in the future. So long as you have a decent PA it's a good call.
  6. Done only 2 weddings, one for the guitarists sister which was a bit of a disaster as no one danced! (we're a loud rock band and granny didn't like it ( what a surprise), got bought not a single drink, in fact I bought the happy couple and entourage a round! Second wedding much much better, got properly paid and put up at a cool venue in cornwall, fed and watered to excess, people dancing up all night icnluding on the stage, fabulous, so you never know. The one thing I will say is it amazes me how the bride and groom sometimes only choose a band based on what they like rather than thinking of all the other guests.
  7. So last night I'm learning Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers (great tune BTW) and boy am I struggling with the opening bars, it's not that difficult but can I get the timing right at speed? Can I 'eck! So I leave it 24 hours and come back to it and boom play it perfectly straight out of the box at any speed I want. Now that's happened loads of times with tricky lines and speedy lines, leave it a bit and come back a bit later and it suddenly seems easier? What's all that about?
  8. yeah tried the blue steels and they were great but Im loving the lifespan on the elixrs, are you getting the 7 series RCF's or sticking with the 3 series?
  9. Thanks Phil, great to see you again, thanks for the pint! Only FX used were the DHA preamp (into the desk) and a Boss Compressor/limiter everything set to noon. TBH the biggest improvement I've noticed in sound is decent strings and I was THE naysayer of string snake oil but I was wrong, now using DR Highbeams or Elixir Nano's. That FBT PA at the Marine is a serious bit of kit, I wish our RCF was that good but I think he paid a few grand for it
  10. Im always mentioning great value gear, never been deleted, deffo a hickup in the algorithms!
  11. as the saying goes, "walking jazz bass lines, any old sh*te played with a straight face" On the flip side I love walking jazz bass line, just wish I could play some!
  12. £150? WoW, seriously good showreel for that kind of money The only consecutive criticism I might be so bold to add would be some colour wash lighting?
  13. lovely bit of wood you have there
  14. A one trick pony that somehow cuts through in a live gig better than any other!
  15. hi Phil, the Queens Arms in Brixham, great little venue but its tiny for the band. The sub is behind me next to the drummer and it doubles up as somewhere to put the desk on. The tops are also behind me but as there isn't even enough room for a mic and stand, feedback isn't an issue! The drummer uses one of those vibrating bum stool things for bass so he's cool and our guitarist and singer can hear the bass well enough (not like they care anyway!). The Ampeg isn't going anywhere 'cos (A) it sounds so lush and (B) it looks so rock n roll especially for a 54 year old dad of 2...
  16. ok quick snippet, on an iphone so not great sound but hey ho
  17. Gigged tonight at a small pub with seriously minimal room to swing the proverbial cat, so as usual I forgoe the backline/combo/head& cab (unlike everyone else obviously) and go Tubey DI pedal into desk, out to PA and wedge monitor (for me). Relatively decent gear (budget RCF stuff). Well blow me, its sounds pretty alright you know? Deep punchy bass thanks to the sub, plenty of clear mids and highs thanks to the 2 x 15" tops and decent monitoring from the 12" wedge. I hate , really hate to admit it, but I think the days of my ampeg stack or peavey combo or any other backline are numbered. If I wasn't responsible for the bloody PA (ie store it, carry it around, set it up etc) and all I had to do was turn up with a guitar case and a pedalboard case, I'd be seriously tempted.
  18. Oh no! I'll keep a look out on ebay and gumtree mate. Im playing at the Coach House tonight, I'll ask around.
  19. The Dude by Donald Byrd, a great piece of 1970 acid jazz in response to Miles Davis' beaches Brew (well the whole album was), and I play in a sweaty pub rock covers trio, shhh, don't tell the band mates!
  20. GAS is a terrible thing, lucky for me Im a strict P or J guy (boring I know) into a full fat valve amp and thats it, saying that there was a rather lovely 65 P for sale at a snip over 5K, Release your inner gas and watch the room clear as you (temporarily) feel much better.
  21. yeah done this a couple of times, small admin fee so up your fee accordingly. I think the pub sends you an email link to set it up to their account or something, probably best to contact the venue rather than invapay.
  22. I wouldn't want to be the first to put a downer on this but I'd rather go dedicated zoom/go pro recorder for gigs especially where audio quality (and battery life ) are conceremed. Saying that if I had to use a phone, Id look second hand, maybe a used Iphone 7 or whats that awesome android phone with 3 cameras? Huawei something?
