We used to play "Superstition" in the set list (cheesy) but it's thankfully been quietly dropped. I love the origional but I didn't think it worked as a rock song (we did the Beck Bogart Appice version). Anyway, as the guilty secret Disco loving diva in the band, does anyone do any rocked-up disco or soul numbers in their set, any suggestions? I saw a band years ago do a great rock version of Hot Chocolate's Everyone's a winner, for starters.

yep got one, it's ace, always on even with an all valve head, made in Devon too!

back to Mudpup's OP Reaper is brilliant for your tasks, fade in/outs, seperating tracks, normalising and converting etc.. Also get a few mastering / compressing free VST's for it http://bedroomproducersblog.com/2013/06/26/free-mastering-software/ and you can really improve the quality of your final live tracks.

Ive got a few cables that could do with replacing, but ive always fancied repairing them and fitting some with right angled jacks etc.. Ive an old soldering iron in the garage that i've used in the past to fix some stuff but its a bit rubbish TBH. Can anyone recommend a starters kit that includes fixing clamps? Also whats the correct wattage for this sort of work? And finally(!) what's the best solder type and guage for cable repairs? Many thanks!!!

interesting to note the price hikes! £225 this year, seems austerity never happened! As much a part of the circuit as Henley, Ascot, Wimbledon etc, posh kids partything, utter bollo*ks, makes me almost nostalgic for the 80's when you could jump the fence, sell drugs and be generally loutish.

One bass for gigging, that's it. Spare strings (old ones) in the case, never broken a string in 20 years. Di box in case amp dies (that's happened a few times!) If the axes dies, well thats it for the gig i guess (unless the landlords got a spare) but hasn't happened yet! Cant much go wrong with a passive really, nothing a screwdriver and the drummers soldering iron coudn't fix on the night!

HLF 410 is 4 ohms, goes very low and quite light (compared to my old warwick 410) plus has castors but not too much sparkle (great for old style rock and soul)

VT 2 pedal saved my bacon a few times now, after amps have died, just Di to desk, sounds great! A lot easier than carrying a spare amp.

SVT 450 is a very different beast from the VST-CL or VST-VR,. the 450 being a solid state box of c*ap ccompared to the considerably more expensive ( to buy and maintain) all tube 300W SVT and CL models. it really is apples and rare fillet steak, bear it in mind!

ok, so i also use a Dave Hall Tube pre-amp pedal http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page37.html which, before i went all tube big amp, was used with an assortment of solid state amps including ampeg PF-500, SWR working Pro 700W and a 1500W power amp. All sounded great, really great in fact, BUT..it is simply a statement of fact that once you have experienced in a gigging situation ( even the Dog and Parrot in Slough) an all tube head through a 410 cab, you will simply never get the creaminess and weight of Tone that all tube heads deliver. God knows I would love a lightweight soloution, the head weighs 90lbs on its own, but I really believe there is no other way.
