1. you can run but you can't hide!
2. SVT 450 is a very different beast from the VST-CL or VST-VR,. the 450 being a solid state box of c*ap ccompared to the considerably more expensive ( to buy and maintain) all tube 300W SVT and CL models. it really is apples and rare fillet steak, bear it in mind!
3. ok, so i also use a Dave Hall Tube pre-amp pedal http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page37.html which, before i went all tube big amp, was used with an assortment of solid state amps including ampeg PF-500, SWR working Pro 700W and a 1500W power amp. All sounded great, really great in fact, BUT..it is simply a statement of fact that once you have experienced in a gigging situation ( even the Dog and Parrot in Slough) an all tube head through a 410 cab, you will simply never get the creaminess and weight of Tone that all tube heads deliver. God knows I would love a lightweight soloution, the head weighs 90lbs on its own, but I really believe there is no other way.
4. there can be only one.....
5. great idea ( not too keen on the next story below the article, not much to do in Cirencester eh?!)
6. its like a bad trip, but I like it!
7. Is ita bit like this?
8.
Every time I see Jools' show I'm reminded of this:
Brilliant!
9. Very strong show IMO for a nice change! Best by a country mile again IMO was Lianne La Havas? Never seen or heard her before but wow! Followed closely by Father John Misty, huge star in the making there I think.. Followed by Hot Sardines, great musicians and tap dancer! Poorest by far and sad to say was Paul Weller, really boring, terrible sound oh well..
10. we do this in our band but I don't know how! The drummer owns the desk and knows how it works, but I think it's something to do with active or passive crossovers? Im sure someone who knows what they're talking about will be along soon to help.
11. chr*ist don't resurrect this post please, I still have nightmares about it!
12. i find the HLF extremely deep, its a sound I like but to cut through the mix on stage I have to eq the mids right up and roll the bottom off, it still sounds huge though, can't fart it out even with a 300W tube head!
13.
As I recall Plant ducked out of most of the high notes in the film 'The Song Remained The Same' in 1973, so no chance these days. He now lacks power as well as range. IMO etc etc. To be fair, there aren't many from that era who can still sing. Ian Gillan, probably my favourite male vocalist back in the day, is pitiful. Paul Rogers springs to mind as one of the few who can.
as can Glenn Hughes (k*ob that he is) and Mr Coverdale
14. seriously avoid anything made in the far east, PM me for more info, stick to US, preferably anything pre Loud Technologies.
15. no getting away from it Im afraid, they are beasts, I only use mine for gigging, rehersals get the preamp pedal to PA treatment now, like they say, its gets boring very quickly, but you won't get THAT tone any other way.
16. sounds proper grim, Id tell em your washing your hair that night.
17.
Want an Ampeg SVT CL for Ashdown money? http://www.thomann.d...00_infinium.htm I've so nearly pulled the trigger on one of these over the past couple of weeks
Im going to assume that you're being ironic.... although never having tried one you might be right!
18. I mean its probably cr*p right? But 100 notes? http://www.thomann.de/gb/behringer_bvt4500h.htm
19. only in 7/4 time.
20. Good man once you get that out of the system, you can get P bass craving like I have
21. markbass compressore is a brilliant transparent pedal BUT its big and will want its own pedal socket so if pedalboard space is an issue....
