1. coke and meth probably. still alive mind, unlike so many others who died too young
2. a barefaced midget sounds the ticket. With regard to cranking it a bit, Ive run my P passive through the -15db active input and cranked the gain to get a bit of grit without too much volume, not sure if thats advisable per se but its still working!
3. Alright chaps and chap-esses? Ive got one awesome bass sitting in my dinning room here in sunny Teignmouth waiting to head off on its next journey, anyone fairly localish gigging in the next couple of weeks I can hand onto? Raised £30.75 last time, lets keep this thing going! Please PM if you're available. cheers!
4. sounds like its not you who's the problem mate! Drums, guitars too loud?
5. Dave Hall mate, and he's based down here so support your local pedalman! seriously, consider the VT2, its a beast but sounds so fat and warm, and the 2 tube option really lets you dial in a cracking overdrice, nice DI out as well, its all i use into the desk on small pub gigs, leave the rig at home! http://www.davehallamps.co.uk/page18.html
6.
Also get it in black. White looks so semi-pro!!!!!!
sooo this!!
7. well if you want to add another cab at a later date you're probably better off with the 8 ohm cab as 2 x 8ohm cabs goes down to a 4 ohm load on the amp, whereas 2 x 4 ohm cabs goes down to a 2 ohm load on your amp and quite a few amps only go down to 4 ohms rather than 2. Theres not a massive difference in volume between 8 and 4 ohm cabs IMO. Does that make sense?, Im crap at explaining stuff. Just to confuse matters further, if your amp is solid state, what i just said is fine but if its a valve head, you should put it with whatever the amp says it should be paired with
8.
Thinking about getting some new lights. Like the look of these LED jobs, do any of you mount them on your PA stands in any way? Would be good to not have to have other t-bars etc? J
velcro on top of the speakers and velcro under the light bar, lights sit on top of speakers and more secure than gaffa tape
9. best delay i ever had was an analogue BYOC , cost me £60 on ebay like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/BYOC-analogue-delay-effects-pedal-true-bypass-/301397180301?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item462cabff8d good value phaser, again ebay, analogue Pearl phaser from the 1980's, about £60 like this http://www.ebay.co.u...=item3a98b01c41 not a fan of digital...
10. as well as led pars we use one of these which looks quite good against the band logo backdrop http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-RETRO-SOUND-LAB-OIL-WHEEL-DISCO-BAND-PROJECTOR-LIGHT-EFFECT-/301395158462?pt=UK_ConElec_LightingLEDsStrobes_RL&hash=item462c8d25be
11.
Good rant, with plenty of nails hit fair and square on the head. I've never been a big fan of 'pub culture' and you've pretty much summarised why, especially the environmental points. I suspect this is a big contributory factor to the rise in coffee shop popularity in recent years.
maybe I should start phoning round the coffee shops and tearooms for a gig!!!!
12. have a look here http://www.lemonrock.com/venues.php and type in thge area you're looking to play in with say a 30 mile radius. You should see the most active gigging venues with contact details. Good Luck
13. something to do with wattage and decibels being linear...or something?.....doesnt the wattage have to be 10 times as big to just double the DB level, or am i talking tosh?
14. ive seen this a few times. I have to say its some of the most tasteful slap ive seen on youtube.
15. Ive noticed that where you live in the Uk also determines how much some pubs are willing to pay. Having said that we were asking £70 per man and feeling a bit cheeky ( theres 3 of us) when often the pubs were quiet. Now we use an agent, we are getting over £100 per man, simply because the agent has the b*lls to ask for that much from her bands. £150 is IMO taking the p*ss, but some pubs will only pay that much and get the bands to do it for that. I would avoid any pub paying less than £240 in the present climate and always ask for at least £300 for a 4 piece. You are worth it, just don't be afraid to ask for it!
16. different... thankk goodness solo bass is a rare thing though...
17. can't wait! Have contacted the local rags and bbc, might get a sniff...
18. If you're the poor sod who owns half the PA but actually humps all of it in and out of the van before and after every gig, then drives up to an hour and a half to the gig, sets it up with the drummer (cos the guitarist is a useless tw*t), then plays, puts it all down and drives home at 2 am...rather than some bloke who just turfs up with his axe asking where do I plug in, then yes I want paying, being in a gigging band has very little to do with playing, probably less than 25%, unless you're Rush of course.
19. stop messing about and get a big tube head...now.
20. Heyup! Ive been lucky enough to get the legendary bass from the relay for our gig at the Heart of Oak, Pinhoe, Exeter this Saturday 15th November! https://www.google.co.uk/maps/place/Heart+Of+Oak/@50.739139,-3.470793,15z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xaaf5ccbd99b0144f?sa=X&ei=erVkVILdN9DcatC_gYAB&ved=0CHwQ_BIwCw Anyone playing in Devon in the next couple of weeks, please PM me so we can keep it moving?
21. my initial thoughts were of all the crystal meth and hookers to be had.
22. well done getting into the talking heads, much nicer than that dump the joiners down the road (if its still going)
23.
Doesn't work that way here anymore, almost the exact opposite. All the really good bands with outstanding musicians get the lower end gigs and the agency represented very marginal bands get all the great gigs. Below is an example, Greg still plays the same bars my band plays and he blows any agency band away.
