1. Will we ever get beyond the mindless male attitude towards females. It's disappointing to read the comments pretty much blaming the band member for inviting lewd could comments due to their clothing. I was in a great band with a female singer, who prior to going on stage at a gig. Came up to me in tears. A group of lads had made some highly sexualised comments to her as she was walking to the toilet. It really knocked her. I went to speak to the lads and explained how upset she was and how would they feel if it were their sister, girlfriend etc. That if they have to say something, why can't they just pay a simple compliment? Why does is have to be so overtly sexualised.?I explained that as group is this how they really want to interact with other. Or do they think they are impressing each other? None apologised although all sat in silence. I watched them leave as we were starting. As someone has said. It's really simple for me. It's just wrong. They have no right.
2. RIP. What a player
3. Hello. They are usually placed where two reflective surfaces meet. So in corners and where ceiling meets walls etc. They do deaden the room quite considerably. I made my own, which allowed me to make the bespoke and to the sizes I needed. My understanding is that they have more of an impact on sound generated inside the room. I'm not sure how they effect the frequencies your trying to keep out? This is the ones I made. Really cheap and far more decorative as you can choose fabric to suit. https://www.readyacoustics.com/DIY-BASS-TRAPS-MADE-EASY.pdf
4. Gosh. I've never heard of these before. It's clearly from a particular era, where aesthetically the more outrageous the better.
5. Sold Cameron a techamp head. Great transaction. Great comms. Spot on.
6. I'm in exactly the same situation. I am being assisted by our very own ambient. A fine teacher. It's liberating to say the least
7. Ive had such similar experiences. We did a good few gigs for the Hungry Horse chain, Good payers and majority were spot on. There is one near Perry Barr in Birmingham, which we had played before. So on return visit, we were met by a new very aggressive manager. I put it down to her establishing her authority. Fine, play the game blah blah. Set up, played, people danced, people fought and people cried. A success all round. Pay time and all the excuses in the world. " we didn't book it" etc. Our guitarist is quiet an accomplished thug and at the point he began to remove a flat screen TV, they payed up.

9.
I didn't think it was. It wasn't my intention to divert it down that road either - I have no axe to grind either way (which I hope is clear from the ramblings in the rest of my post). It was just a thought that popped into my head as I finished writing the rest of it.
I agree completely. Thats why I quoted you. I'm with you 100%. I've really enjoyed the situation I'm in. That's why I posted the thread.
10.
Is there a concern about certain players having the dots in front of them in a live situation and how that makes the band look? It certainly seems to have been an area of controversy on this forum before.
There have been some really interesting responses. I hope the thread doesn't dip to the dots/ iPads etc on stage. That wasn't my intention. I think us muso's are far more critical of each other's than many we play for. We're determined to give it time and help each other reach our goal. It's been really interesting. I've always put classically trained players on a really high pedasol, which they still deserve. It's just this situation has levelled us out as for friends playing together
11.
What do the orchestral players play? Why can't they read (for the time being)?
That's what I thought. Aside from making the musical transition. There's a huge environmental change. We playing traditional Irish/ Celtic folk music, which is a passion we all share. I'm thinking it's such different worlds.
12. I have found myself in a really odd situation. I'm involved with a band that has 3 other incredible players, two are classically trained and play day in day out orchestras etc. The lead singer is fab and decent guitarist. But.... There is a barrier in that the two highly trained players have to have the dots in front of them. They are really struggling to make the transition to learning a song without the dots. Equally the lead singer is struggling to get to grips with being handed lead sheets, as she is really an intuitive player. I find myself as piggy in the middle. I can just about hold my own with work between rehearsals. I really want it to work as when it gels it sounds great. Just wondering if any of you BCers have any tips to make this work? wheres the middle ground?
