  1. I like the black font on a black background as well for the item description. Very gothic.
  2. I have the 4 string version of this bass and they really are excellent quality for the money.
  3. This is properly beautiful. If only I wasn't skint.
  4. Beautiful bass. If I had the cash I'd be all over it.
  5. I had one of these for years, was my second ever bass. Really underrated instrument, super fast neck. Free BUMP for the nostalgia.
  6. I had the same problem recently with setting up my new EUB (Aria SWB-04). No useful info anywhere on the net. I basically experimented a bit myself until I got something I felt happy with. The action on my EUB when I bought it was very low, I raised it up using Rufus Reid's setup guide and then it was way too high. Brought it back down until it was somewhere in between and I was happy with it. I found I needed to fine tune a bot more action wise to ensure the intonation at the 12th dot marker for the octave was OK as well. Not sure if the Stagg has dot markers on the side? I also found I needed to fiddle with pickup height etc a bit as well to get a sound I liked. Hope this helps.
  7. PM sent Wednesday. No reply so far.
  8. Apparently it's only aluminium covered. D'oh!
  9. I stick mine in the back of a Mazda 2 with the rear seats down, on it's side with the scroll just over the gear stick.
  10. Great work. WIll keep posted to see how this works out.
  11. I can't remember exactly. The scale length (nut to bridge) was about 38 inches, maybe 38 and a half.
  12. Hi all, I bought my first DB about 3 months back now. I'm loving it. I think my DB might be a 1/2 size though rather than the 3/4 it was sold to me as. Well, I'm pretty sure it is. I've checked the measurements against those on the Golihur site and they fit almost exactly with the 1/2 sizing. I'm wondering what to do about this. I do like the instrument, it has a nice sound and it plays well but will I need to 'size up' at some point in the future? And is this better to do now rather than later? I do sometimes find my intonation higher up the neck is affected by my fingers being naturally more spread out than the notes requires and the sound is a little too soft at times. Any advice welcomed. Cheers, Burg
  13. Hi, I have these with me now on my bass. I'm a DB newbie and this is the first set of non-steel string I've played but here are my first impressions: Feel - nice and soft to the touch, tension is less than my steel set (which I expected) but they don't feel floppy at all. Quick and easy to play in comparison with my steel strings. The action on my bass is still quite high as I haven't adjusted my bridge yet (I think it's set up for arco playing) but I'm not havign any trouble with holding these strings down and my playing is faster and more fluid now I've got these strings on. My playing stamina has also greatly increased. Sound - Lovely warm tone, darker and less bright than the steel strings I was using but with a lovely 'bloom' to the sound when I let the note ring out. Slightly 'woody' tone I would say. I think sustain is a little less prominent than my steel strings, the note seems to decay just that bit quicker and so harmonics and vibrato aren't as rich in terms of sustain. I don't have a bow so can't comment on this. Who's next on the list and when do I need to post to them?
  14. That's beautiful. If I had the money.
  15. hahahaha it's mine! all mine!
  16. Just bought some 2nd hand double bass strings from Alex. Had a positive experience all round, friendly, quick delivery etc. I'd recommend.
  17. Lovely bass, and looks like a bit of a bargain. Good look getting to grips with the DB.
  18. Hi, Can I go on the list for these please? Thanks
  19. A 400 series eh? To Google!
  20. Cheers Joe, thanks for the advice. I've been working through Bob Magnusson's The Art of Walking Bass but I'm not finding it that useful at the moment so think I'll start using something else. I do have quite a few books on pdf that I can choose from and I'm just trying to find one that works for me at the moment. I have the Ray Brown book so maybe I'll give that a try for starters. I have a lesson booked in for this Sunday and he's going to look at my setup with me to let me know if anything needs changing. I moved the bridge myself as someone mentioned it was too high up the body and after doing some research online it seemed it needed to be over the F holes more. I think a new set of strings will be good as the strings on it look like they're knackered. I'll see what my teacher says though. I've checked inside the bass and the only piece of identification is a sticker saying 'Made in Czechoslovakia'.
  21. Thanks for the helpful comments everyone. Looks like I got a bargain. Anyone recommend a luthier in the North West who could look at the setup? How difficult a DIY job is this?
