1. It's just Day of the Baphomets by Mars Volta set to clips from Apocalypto. Great song, but odd when I first heard it
2. Pure jazz growl - particularly noticeable on the low E sections around 0:36. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9TB_fi1fB3k
3. We played once a week for about 3-4 hours and we were fine for the sole gig we had. Depends on the complexity and the amount of material you write/cover I guess.
4.
ok with dust and prints but if you slap and pop at all, best keep your nails as short as possible, to avoid slap rash under the D and G strings
I don't do much slap.
5. Ah, that is very nice Bay. How is it with finger marks and dust and everything though? Or does that sound silly...
6.
Voted other. Are those inlays MOP or abalone. Match the guard to the inlays. Simples!
Pearl but I'm not overly keen on the black and white, killer whale like combination.
7.
I also have a black Jazz with a white pickguard... I can`t help thinking that it looks like a killer whale.. I want to exchange it for a black one.
Let's both take the plunge. Pun intended
8. I agree with mirrors looking more suited to a P-bass rather than a Jazz.
9.
I voted Black Pearl
That is beautiful, I think I may settle on the Black Pearl. Thanks to those who contributed
10.
White pearl - or why not black pearl? Never seen that on a black/rosewood/pearl blocks J before, I think it would look great. Jon.
Thanks for that, I'm thinking of how black pearl would look now, for some reason I want to stay away from the lighter colours.
11.
Black or red for me. And what is a Boltener doing so far south, usually we don't venture pass Manchester, theres no need we have verything we could possibly want here
Fair point mate, I moved down here 4 years ago with family. I miss my season ticket
12. I have one of these great basses: And I would really like to change the pickguard - to a darker colour perhaps. I was thinking either brown tort OR black. I play a bit of everything - mostly rock, punk and a little bit of groovy stuff (bit of metal too ) Which one do you guys think - or another to suggest that would look pleasant? I know it's rather insignificant, but I'd like opinions Thanks
13. The bassist in Avenged Sevenfold should have a read of this thread. His slightly scooped mids (or so it sounds) plus a StingRay - which I've been led to believe are slightly mid-scooped anyway- can't lead to a good audible tone IMO.
14.
Haha Im propper stressing over assinements atm, easily annoyed and all!! Hopefully will be out of the way soon thankfully!! Yeah I spent a while on google and couldnt find anythign!! Im pretty f***ing clueless when it comes to all the technical frequency stuff!! lol Ill just go for a spike in the low-mids, Im sure that will do!! Thanks Gary
I know how you feel, I've had many assignments and have 6 exams soon. Adrenochrome above ^ knows what he's talking about more than I do, 500Hz sounds about right.
15. Relax, I'm sure silddx wasn't having a go. I've had a quick browse around google and can't find the figures nor know enough about them to guess. But by 'classic p-bass thump', we mean a real spike in the low-mid frequencies - as for the top end, it's not as clear as a jazz bass. That may be complete nonsense.
16. The Magnificent Seven by The Clash Great groove
17. I'd like to come but it's about 1 hour and a half drive from my house in Devon. Still, it will probably be worth it - I may see you chaps there.
18. Welcome to the family, I saw the light around a month ago.
19.
Yep similar position here. Left a band back in the summer and haven't been able to find people to work with on anything original. Got asked by a friend of a friend to start working on some soul/pop covers for a brithday party gig and have got a first jam/rehearsal tonight. Not really what I want to be playing but excited to be playing with a band again.
Hope you enjoy it!
20. It's difficult as the term is so subjective. You wouldn't say so-and-so was a genius due to 10 no.1 hits - just because you're making it big doesn't necessarily make you a genius. And on that uncomfortable fence, I will perch.
21.
Constantly, that's how I ended up in 3 bands, none of which play anything I really like... good to see another Devon based bassist round. I'm playing in the bowling green tomorrow night.
Oh, good stuff. What band do you play in, and is that Exeter - I'm not too familiar with local venues (I'm a northerner at heart). I'd drop by but I only finish work at 8:30PM.
22. Just wondering if there were many of you guys out there who were at a similar point - I left a band, well, it crumbled, and now I'm looking to write some of my own stuff, bit of rock/prog/punk but I just KNOW it's going to be hell getting some stable musicians with a similar passion. Every just thrown your ambitions out the window and joined any old band- just to play some live music? Carl
23.
So how are you going to do the video without a camera? Also, bear in mind that if you play along to a record then Youtube may delete your video sound for infringement of copyright.
Sorry, I misunderstood. I mean the video camera isn't good enough to record the sound - which is understandable. It is fine for the video. As for the copyright, I'll cross that bridge when I come to it - or avoid certain labels.
24.
I started out just playing live over the tracks and videoing it.... very cheap!
Sadly I don't have a video camera good enough for it, and my laptop mic just distorts.
25. Hi guys, I'd really like to start recording some bass covers for youtube, but unsure as to how to do it. I'm thinking of getting a Korg Pandora PX5D - which is quite pricy (£150) but has had great reviews, sounds great in demos and has a USB line out connection, so I'm tempted. Any other cheaper or alternative options? Thanks, Carl
