1. But that RRP is mental...
2. Aye - they do! That US FSR finish was wonderful though.
3. That's a lovely bass / necks
4. Ah. I saw http://www.gak.co.uk/en/fender-nate-mendel-p-bass-candy-apple-red/75186?gclid=CL3C_4mExbQCFSTLtAodH0sAlA and http://www.guitarguitar.co.uk/bass_guitars_detail.asp?stock=12100116063758&gclid=CI-wlYuExbQCFW_KtAodxwEAJw Just trying to find excuses to click that buy button.
5. Hey... Anyone bought one of these yet?
6. For me, I'm happy with one bass and tweaking/modifying it to my taste. It's a jazz bass so it can cover mostly anything. Err, and I don't have the space for more.
7. Wherever I saw it, I can't agree that Mike Dirnt is a 'poor' bass player. Some of their earlier stuff has some cool, tasteful basslines.
8. Not for me. Not a fan of the Ibanez style anyway.
9. Tortex 1.14mm for me
10.
Yup. Me too.
Thirded.
11. My favourite bassline ever - possibly!
12. Asked for a Fender bass machine head keyring but - as it was sold out - got a guitar headstock key ring. It's all good really.
13.
You can't really hear Newsted on And Justice For All, as he is pretty much doubling the guitar lines. I think there's a difference between not hearing the bassist when they are playing (and lost in the mix), and not hearing the bassist when they are not playing. You would probably know something was missing.
He is doing that but I'm not sure about that being the only reason. The volume of his track is just really quiet to me.
14. I love playing Ready for the Floor by Hot Chip, Bridge Burning and Rope by Foo Fighters.
15. For sure. Air drumming too! ^^ Also, YES to Partridge and Level 42
16. The sound is very much reminiscent (to me) of Flea's on Blood Sugar Sex Magik. Both Wals and heavy attacks too. Having said that, I much preferred the BSSM sound. Doesn't work for me on this Rush album.
17. I think Guy Pratt said it well. 'It means you can play it fast. It's an indefinable thing. Some guitars you can, some guitars you can't.' It's all about preference, right.
18. 'Within and Without' album by Washed Out
19.
My fave: The Waitresses - Christmas Wrapping nifty bit of bass as well
So great. My favourite bassline ever - in fact!
20. Lot of Hot Chip at the moment.
21.
Playing along to the record at home and playing in a band doing covers are two entirely different things. As soon as you're in the band situation everything becomes much more fluid. Playing the bassline exactly as recorded may well no longer work depending on how the instrumentation of you band differs from what is on the recording and how closely your band mates stick to the recorded versions of their parts.
Good points! I'm in a band but we never perform covers.
22. I'm a sucker for attention to detail when it comes to covering a song and I like to stick closely to the original basslines. Anyone else similar - or more improvisational? And - on a related note - are there any small bass nuances in songs that you have to pick up on and include? I'm not in a covers band but like to play along at home. Example, 0:49 of Rope by Foo Fighters. That bass slide and octave pick gets me every time. So good!
23. Could I ask what an 'MM' neck is? Cheers!
24. I'm not a massive KoL fan, but his tone on 'On Call' record is pretty great! Lots and lots of reverb - and pretty percussive pick playing.
25. Here's some new material of theirs: Sounds like a jazz bass with some really cool playing in there. Doesn't stray too far from Mic Todd's style and the tone shines through well from 2:20 onwards. Thoughts? Must be a few Coheed fans lurking here.
