  1. Lovely looking bass! The body finish is super cool.
  2. There already are some, the modern player series was Chinese, basically the squier CV build with different pickups.
  3. I think it's Lake Placid Blue but I could be wrong.
  4. That's a lovely looking bass and a bargain! I agree with Loz about the tort plate though.
  5. That's really good to know, I'm pretty happy with the decision based on home playing. I think it'll work well for my current bands sound. I guess the good thing I can swap it out in the future if I the mood takes me.
  6. Thanks mate! The seller is called Musiclily UK. It came from China and seems decent quality, I'm hoping it ages interestingly.
  7. Thanks all, I've only been able to play it at home so far. Initial impressions are very positive, it's very resonant unplugged, sounds great to my ear and feels right. It's first rehearsal is next weekend, I'm really keen to hear how it does in the context of drums and guitars.
  8. I was initially quite impressed that fender had brought these out, it can't be a bad thing to have the F on the headstock of a budget friendly bass. But like everyone else has said it's really hard not to draw comparisons to the squier CVs, which will no doubt be objectively pretty similar quality and to my eye better looking.
  9. Thanks! I hadn't noticed the mixer in the merge block. That'll stop the clean sound being colored at all. I'll have a look at the other splits too. Sending just highs to the dirty bit could be interesting.
  10. It took a while longer to come together than expected, but today I took delivery of this absolute beauty and I'm pretty happy with it. The idea (inspired by a mate who's done similar tele and strat builds) was to build a really high quality vintage looking P bass but with modern appointments. The same kind of idea as buying a classic car and putting a modern drive train in it. The body came from MJTs eBay store. I had waited for an Aztec gold one to come up for a few months, one finally did but it sold for more than I was willing to pay. Shortly after this ice blue metallic one came up, I'd never heard of it before but after some googling I was pretty sold. I bid, won, paid the import, waited for delivery and finally it arrived in early August. The bridge is a gotoh 203 and the tuners are gotoh resolites. I'm really happy with both, they look classic but are slight functional improvements over the what an actual vintage bass would have, fitting in nicely with the restomod idea. Pickup and electronics are EMG GZR. I agonised over the decision, it's really easy to get analysis paralysis with P bass pick-ups because there are so many available. I considered Kloppmann, Bare knuckle, Di Marzio model P, various Seymour Duncans and probably a few more. Then I played another bass with the GZR in it and enjoyed it, so because I couldn't test any of the others I ordered the GZR. I may change it in the future but for now I'm pretty sold, it does exactly what I want it to, not that I could describe what that is. The strat and tele that inspired the build both have Warmoth necks. I enquired about getting the spec I wanted built and they weren't able to help, I wanted a 16" radius which they apparently don't do on bass necks, so it was back to the drawing board. I ended up contacting Jon Shuker about building a neck and ordered the same spec as he uses for the JJ Burnel Zenith bass, I shipped the body and parts to Jon, he built the neck to fit the pocket and assembled and set the bass up, all for less money that my mate had paid for his Warmoth necks after shipping and tax! Today it finally arrived and I'm over the moon. I'll list the full spec below for those that are interested. Most importantly there are photos. It weighs a shade over 4kg. Neck (Shuker): Roasted flamed maple. Carbon reinforcement. Stainless frets. Brass nut. Luminlay side dots. Black fret board markers. 16" radius. Gentle c carve. 43mm nut. 20.5mm depth at the first fret. 22.5mm at the 12th. Body (MJT): Alder with usual contours. Lightly aged ice blue metallic finish (nitrocellulose). Hardware: Gotoh resolite tuners in nickel. Gotoh 203 brass bridge in nickel. Gotoh aged domed nickel nobs. Gotoh large nickel strap buttons. eBay special anodized scratch plate. Electronics: EMG GZR pick-up and wiring. I think it came together pretty well!
  11. Sorry in advance if this has been asked/covered before. Does anyone have any tips on using a parallel signal path for a clean blend with the guitar overdrives? My current signal chain is compressor to signal split then a Klon and a plumes on one path and an EQ that I'm using as a clean boost on the other. The Klon is on all the time and the plumes (in op amp mode) is used to add more dirt when required. I'm basically wondering if I've gone about it the most sensible way, is there a better way of boosting the clean signal so the level is the same as the dirty?
  12. After a longer than anticipated wait, I got the news that the neck is finished, the bass assembled and set up today. It's due to arrive tomorrow, I'll do an NBD post when I've had a chance to get to know it, but for now I'm really happy with the aesthetic.
  13. There's definitely a good number of options. Is this enough of a departure?
  14. Bought Martins GK 1001RB at the weekend. Great guy to deal with and a smooth process. Would definitely recommend.
  15. That's a really good looking bass. How does it sound compared to it's inspiration? I bet it's incredibly versatile with that electronics package.
  16. This looks amazing. Very excited to see the end result.
  17. Really like this. I didn't know they existed until now. I may try and acquire the 4 string version.
  18. I'd agree. Super versatile bass, the preamp pickup combo is really simple to use and very musical.
  19. Phwoaaaar this is lovely. Buy with confidence guys, Quent is great to deal with 👌.
  20. Lovely bass! I bought one when they first came out and really enjoyed it, I just couldn't get on with the size of the thing. Shame because I loved everything else about it.
  21. I'm a huge fan of the T series. I have a toaster 40, used to have a blade one too but sold it. I've never seen a 20 in person, how does it compare weight wise to the 40? Is the pickup the super ferrous? I'm guessing the neck is the same.
  22. God damn this is great. Congrats on a really cool build.
  23. I love an SR. Have you considered a second hand one? You'd probably get a higher spec one as they really don't hold their value. Also, Warwick's still have side markers.
  24. I sold it on here, way over 10 years ago and I don't remember who bought it. It came from a guy in Bristol who had an actual 66 too. I'm pretty sure I found it on eBay. By the time I sold it, I'd sanded the neck back and put a bad ass II and set of overwound pickups in it. Thing sounded amazing.
