1. Having just bought the SR you were originally looking at I have to say its great! Good luck with the ray though
2. Some jap cream there!
3. I have just got a brand new SR-605 which is awesome. Also have a vintage Ibanez blazer which is an absolute tone monster. Bang for buck wise not much comes close.
4. Just realised I haven't talked about the bass much. It has a lightning action, low and buzz free, however its original strings feel a touch light to me. Frets are a nice size, no sharp edges or flat/high spots Hardware wise its batting out of its league. Tuners feel great, bridge is substantial and pretty much movement free. I love the fact that the hardware is black too. There's full access to the whole fretboard and the neck join is tight. I don't have a bad word to say about any of it. I love a lump of ash, and I quite like the grain on it. I am tempted to stain it black like the Gary Willis model but I probably won't. I don't understand why some of the range have 3 up 2 down headstock's and some have 2 up 3 down. If anyone is in the market for an affordable 5er I'd recommend it!
5. Mrs cocco and I went to London for a couple of days, to look curio's and oddities for our living room. What trip to London would be complete without a trip to Denmark Street? The next thing I knew I was in Wunjo's, as I was browsing the semi acoustics one of the Toms said the words "feel free to play anything you fancy". Obviously I was like a kid in a sweet shop from this point on. The first thing I picked up was a Warwick Star bass, which was fantastic sounding but not a great fit. So I put that down and picked up a starcaster bass, which was less comfortable, heavier and I wasn't a fan of the short scale but it did sound good. Fast forward a few others and I eventually got to a pretty good selection of Ibanez SRs. I've been a fan of the 1200 series since it came out, but it was a little out of budget. There was a 700 too but I didn't like the finish. I then looked at the 600 series, but there wasn't a 4 string. I decided I'd have a go on the 5 as a 4 could be ordered and posted to me in the worst case scenario. I loved it. The feel of the naked ash body and satin neck, the preamp was easy to get on with and it sounded great. Long story short I walked away with the 5. I've always thought fivers were a daft idea. A whole extra string for 4 notes seemed stupid until I played one, and here it is. Also for the price (under £500 new) I can't help but feel like I've robbed Ibanez. I'm really happy with it. As a foot note I can't recommend Wunjo's enough. The guys are really knowledgeable, friendly and genuinely nice people. They were full of helpful advice about London too.

N(S)BD!

I love the elite series. I had a pearl white double pickup model that I foolishly sold because my band at the time didn't like it. What's the output of the J pickup like compared to the original?
7. My old grabber had a maple body. That thing had some serious growl. This bass keeps getting better and better. I just hope the QC is good on it.
8.
I assume the West Ham logo is a removable sticker like the wall on the Roger Waters bass?
I doubt it bud.
9. Oh god that's the Steve Harris I've been waiting for!!!!!!!! Wow
10. Rare and beautiful old bird that. Good luck with the sale!
11. Its just so black! Beautiful bass!
12. I have this too!
13. Apart from NIB and pulling teeth
14. Hi Chatters. I got an EHX crying bass for Christmas and I'm trying to find a good use for it, but I can't think of any players/tracks that use bass wah So can anyone name some for me?
15. I wonder how the new Geddy will stack up against the old Jap one, its definately less attractive.
16. What's the neck like on this beastie? Is it J width?

NBR

I love that neck.
18. Where did you get the black scratch plate from bud?
19.
Well, bubinga 5, UglyDog, etc, you are entitled to your opinion and I am entitled to mine. No need for me to rethink anything. Incidentally, which Lakland 'design' is different to those of Leo Fender? From what I can see, essentially there is only one source of inspiration, which of course, is Leo Fender. Looking at the new ten D Lakin guitars shown on the Bass Direct website, with the exception of a very minor revison of the headstock, they are identical to the Precision and Jazz. Dan Lakin, of course also 'designed' the Lakland bases and sold his business a few years ago. Now that he's started up again, he's introduced clones of the Jazz and Precision. I wonder why he did this? Is his ability in design limited, or has he, like so many of the plagiarisers, 'stolen' a fomulae that is proven to suceed? And whether Fender are here tomorrow is irrelevant. It doesn't alter the history of the influence of Leo Fender and Fender guitars over the last 60 years.
Leo Fender is without doubt the most influential instrument designer who ever lived. I don't think anyone has said different. FMIC as it stands now is doing nothing for the brand, and is weather you like it or not being outclassed by the likes of Lakland, D. Lakin, Mike Lull etc at building the classics.
20. I'm on the fence with this argument. I love the precision, jazz, strat and tele and the fact that they are the four most copied designs around is testament to how great they are/can be when done right. I don't know why anyone in their right mind would pay over £1,000 for one with fenders name on it though, my Ibanez blazer is for me a million times better than any fender I've owned even after they were modified. And if you want a carbon copy in the looks department there are plenty of people who can help with that too. I also wonder why G&L aren't more popular, they are afterall Leo Fender designs and the man himself said they were the best he'd ever done and I think I agree. They are the next step in the evolution of the original designs, I've just recently got a Tribute L-2000 which I'm completely besotted with. Those MFD humbuckers and tri-tone system really pack some heat and the bass plays like a dream but still has that classic look to it. The same is true of the rest of the G&L range as well having had some experience with an SB-2 and the ASAT and Comanche guitars. Just my 2 pence.
21. I have the identical bass, the grain pattern is even ridiculously similar. I absolutely adore mine. Whoever ends up with this is in for a treat!
22. I scored this little beauty for Christmas. Thanks Mrs cocco! Needless to say I'm besotted and now I want an M series to go with it. Its a Tribute and was a bargain from Thomann but it punches above its weight. 23. This is lovely. Having recently got an L2000 I'm really tempted to get rid of my Lakland in favour of an SB-2. G&L's rock!
