Gorgeous bass, how did the Mrs know to pick such a cool one?
To be fair I'd been dropping hints
My missus found me an amazing example of one from the states and I was finally allowed to get my hands on it yesterday it's bloody wonderful! I told her I'd be scared of wrecking it, but she insists that I give it the use it deserves as it would be a waste otherwise
Wow! The lesser spotted rosewood board too. Well done that man also if you manage to wreck a 40 nothing else stands half a chance .

Id say squier CV and mod it if needed, you'll have a monster within budget then. Don't discount the Matt Freeman unless you dislike the colour. Its a cracker. What about the vintage Tony Butler? That gets good reviews too.
How is the neck on this? I bought myself one of the special run of 50 Equatorial mahogany US models last year and the neck was so thick front to back to make it unplayable to me so it went back I'd still really like one of these and was thinking about it yesterday but not knowing how deep the neck is was putting me off.
Its great! C shaped but not ridiculous. It feels amaller than my Lakland Bob Glaub, not as a thin as a jazz though. Its a satin finish as well so it feels fast to me.
Great basses. How does it compare to your Toaster T-40? I have a 1979 T-40 through an Orange Thunderverb 200 and Ive been swaying towards getting a G&L for a punchier tone.
Its definately punchier, and lighter. I love it! Have a go on one. Its a monster of a bass.

Always right angled into the instrument for me. I find them less prone to failure, probably because they dont protrude quite so far from the bass. Also more aesthetically pleasing, that's just me though.

Morning chatters! Had a pretty unexpected new bass day yesterday courtesy of Mrs cocco. A G&L L2000 tribute in tobacco burst with matching headstock. What a bass! I'm not normally a fan of active circuitry but the tritone system in this is different somehow, it still has that raw quality that I like no matter how its set. The amount of sounds available is pretty amazing thanks to the switching options too and there's bags of growl and aggression in it, although it can do mellow as well. Fit and finish are pretty flawless and the grain on the swamp ash body is lovely. Ergonomically it feels expectedly familiar which is no bad thing, Im a creature of habit. These are all of course first impressions, but the crux if the matter is that this is a great sounding bass with tonnes of tonal possibilities that plays like a dream, has hardware above its price point and looks good too. Its definitely the next step in the Leo Fender bloodline and is as far as I can see the perfect evolution of the Precision/Stingray design and a great example of if it ain't broke make it better engineering. Leo definatelt got it right (again).
I bought a Fender Jazz 75RI a while ago, natural ash/maple with pearl blocks and white binding, that was just really nice to play and sounded great with a pair of Nordstrand NJ4SE pickups. The only think I didn't quite like, visually, was the grain. It was... well, it was ugly. Very poor attempt to match the pieces of wood: it looked better from the back than fron the front! I love natural bodies, but this one was bugging me. Here's a few pictures (minus controls and neck pickup, as I was in the middle of some surgery) So there it was. Now, I've been on a "red phase" for a while now... Red car, red shoes, red hat, red bass... red cabs! So the idea of refinishing this in some kind of red started forming in my head. Enter... David Wilson. http://www.dwilsonguitars.com/en-gb/home.aspx and https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002025970885&fref=ts I saw him being recommended in a couple of threads on this forum, and decided to contact him. And I couldn't be happier, really! The whole process didn't take too long at all, and it was so simple. Choosing what kind of red I wanted was the hardest part! Once I managed to print out an example of the kind of shade I wanted, I sent it to him together with the body (I could have sent the whole thing and get him to send me back the finished instrument, which would have been tremendous I am sure, but I wanted to experiment a bit with pickups and preamp/no preamp, so no point this time). The body arrived yesterday and it's... gorgeous. He did such a great job! The shade of red is perfect! It's hard to photograph properly... I just took a bunch of pictures with natural light and I think it gets close enough to what it's like in "person". I'll upload them later today, but you can already see a couple of pictures on his facebook page above. Ignore the feminine side comments, pah!
Wow. I can't believe fender let it leave looking like that. It reminds me of that optical illusion camouflage they put on battleships during WW2.

What is this Status graphite? Series 1B4 or Eclipse?
cocco replied to Dandelion's topic in Bass Guitars
Its nothing like the spec my energy was. Mine had a cherry body, J shaped pickups and a 3 knob preamp that I think was vol balance and treble boost. -
Have you tried altering your left hand technique or strap height? I had the same issue for ages and went through a lot of different neck shapes trying to work out what was best. It turned out 90% of the problem was bad technique and having the bass too low. I can now get on with most shapes, I still prefer a P though.

Has anyone got their hands on one of these yet? Im dying for a white one sans pick guard

I had my first experience with an SR today. It was an SR 2000 from 1990. Oh my god what a bass! Maple all the way though. Needless to sayiI have SR gas now. I'll probably end up with this model.

I can't believe there wasn't a thread for this. Deep discussions round 3 at the vault in Swansea today from 12. Free entry

There are a million variations on the warlock. The ones to look out for are the 80s Japanese (NJ) models IMO.
