1.
Ooh, you're comparing apples and cats, there. The Xotic 4 has the option of passive/active modes and is a modern bass which offers both vintage and modern tones. But it won't have the mid-70s P-bass mojo, no way! It depends what you're after. I had a 76P for 38 years, and it was bloody great. Latterly I've played various Dingwall P-type basses, and they're great, too. I haven't played a Xotic but I imagine it will be closer to a modern Dingwall than a 70s P. A 70s P would be perfect if you want a 70s P sound and want to buy into the current 'cool' retro vibe. I'm guessing the Xotic will be able to do a reasonable imitation of a 70s P in passive mode, but will accommodate you in many other ways too, be more reliable, better built, with better electrics and be much more versatile. You pays your money and you takes your choice!
Fixed it pretty much this.
2.
That's a big fist Sounds like it's developed a touch of back-bow, so a tad of loosening ought to do the trick to give the neck a touch of relief. About 1/8 of a turn anti-clockwise, repeat if needed after a day or so. Probably weather-related. P.
Happy now? Thanks for the advice. She's back to normal now
3. It's only buzzing on the first 6 frets.
4. My Bob Glaub has all of a sudden got some fret buzz going on, which way do a tweak it to solve the problem? Or should I raise the action?
5. Id vote for a fender clone, Yamaha BB, Lakland Duck Dunn or Bob Glaub (depending on your neck preference) G&L SB-2. There's a good list of em, most can be had cheaply enough too!
6. Yup, I want it. I definitely want it. I'd be all over trading the pickup out for a TV Jones Thundertron though.
7. Having watched the video I think I'm in love, does it seem a little thin to anyone else though?
8. What I meant was BB2024 inspired yamaha GAS
9. I like it too, wouldn't buy it blind though.
10. Good god that's a 4 pinter.
11. If I can find somewhere to play one I'm gonna seriously consider a 500, based on how good it is passive, I doubt I'll use the preamp but it will be handy to have. Maybe that will cure my in achievable BB2024 GAS.
12. Do we know anything about prices? This is an exciting bass. Yamaha really do have all areas covered!

Gorgeous. I still have BB GAS.
14. Love the cabronita bass!
15. Wish I had the cash, this is the ultimate year of birth bass for me.
16. I already have a bob glaub, it has all bit retired my T-40s. Great great great bass. What does the natural one look like?
17. Both basses have their faithful followers, I personally like both, I swing more for a P these days as the sound is thicker (as is the neck) and I'm in a 3 piece band. Both have their merits and flaws, just depends on which one has more pros than cons to you. For example, I find the first volume pot on a jazz gets in my way when playing with a pick, on a P the nobs are further away, but I miss having the jazzes back pickup for a thumb rest on a P. The major thing for me is the neck though, not enough substance to a jazz neck. Give me a planed baseball bat any day.
18. Post 08 USA fenders seem to be the best they have been for a while, before that its a bit of a lottery, as models go I think that's entirely up to the player, I don't think there's anything wrong with a good old passive Jazz bass, I just wish they had a more substantial neck.
19. I spotted that a few days ago. Love it!
20. I'd say no. If I wanted to imrove on a Thunderbird I'd be changing pickups before installing a preamp. But having said that I'm not a biggest fan of active basses anyway. I know the pickups will be more expensive, but I think your end up with a better thunderbird at the end.
21. That's a good looking 40. Good luck with the sale
22.
If it's non- export they will be USA pickups anyway.
A popular misconception, what fender Japan call USA pickups aren't the same as what you'd find in a USA fender, they are Japanese built and called USA, still weak sounding by comparison.
23. I've been through the ringer with precision pickups. My personal favourites are the Lindy Fralin in my Lakland, Seymour Duncan SPB-2 and Di Marzio model P, it depends what your after. I know where your coming from with the CIJ pickups being weak sounding. I'd go for the lindy, classic p tone that really cuts nicely.
24. Please let me know a price on the Gordon Smith when you come to a decision. I'm very interested.
25. Some sort of precision, I'd hold out for a second hand post 2010 fender or a Lakland Skyline. £900 would buy you a fair bit of P-bass
