1. I'd say no. If I wanted to imrove on a Thunderbird I'd be changing pickups before installing a preamp. But having said that I'm not a biggest fan of active basses anyway. I know the pickups will be more expensive, but I think your end up with a better thunderbird at the end.
2. That's a good looking 40. Good luck with the sale
3.
If it's non- export they will be USA pickups anyway.
A popular misconception, what fender Japan call USA pickups aren't the same as what you'd find in a USA fender, they are Japanese built and called USA, still weak sounding by comparison.
4. I've been through the ringer with precision pickups. My personal favourites are the Lindy Fralin in my Lakland, Seymour Duncan SPB-2 and Di Marzio model P, it depends what your after. I know where your coming from with the CIJ pickups being weak sounding. I'd go for the lindy, classic p tone that really cuts nicely.
5. Please let me know a price on the Gordon Smith when you come to a decision. I'm very interested.
6. Some sort of precision, I'd hold out for a second hand post 2010 fender or a Lakland Skyline. £900 would buy you a fair bit of P-bass
7. I'd imagine the Gordy is worth anywhere between £250-450 depending on condition. I'd say similar for the PJ too. Are you looking to shift them?
8. Classic MIMs are all poly finished in my experience
9. The classic 50e aren't nitro, but they are fecking amazing. If you really want nitro look at a roadworn if its the 50s neck your after. Pound for pound the 50s is probably as much bass for less though.
10. Westones are a good shout. Just be careful it doesn't take over your life!
11. Dayummmmm that's pretty sexy
12. It's worth noting that without a truss rod there will be no relief at all, so it might change the feel of the bass somewhat, I'm not sure if the ray replacement necks have a rod or not though.
13. There are a few hoyer owners on here, most have Gibson replicas though. I've never seen this model before, not that I'm an expert.
14. Having never played a rick on a strap/in a band situation it would be a pretty stupid punt for me even if I could afford it, I still would though, purely on how good it looks.
15. Can't stop torturing myself with this thread, shame I have no spare money
16. Working on the wife as we speak....
17.
has this for a while now and it plays/sounds the business.... Seymour Duncan Quarter-Pounder Pups Passive Reverse headstock oh, did i mention it was orange !
I like that. Reversed head stocks look great on Jazzes.
18. Makes me think of Cliff Burton, black and gold and a rick shape.
19. It's a gear porn fest.
20. I really want one.
21. Nice! What's the difference between it and a 4003?
22.
I don't normally post here but I love these basses so much. They have a real presence. Yes I know they are only reissues but I want to share them anyhoo.: Not sure about putting the chrome covers on the Jazz, any thoughts?
I want them, is my only thought.
23.
I play lots of hard rock and metal with flats, it sounds fantastic
Me too, through a dirty great valve rig!
24. Get a P, a set of flats and a dirty great valve rig and your life will be complete
