1. There will obviously be a difference in build quality and materials used in the manufacture but that's not to say that £400 won't get you a good bass. It depends what you're after in terms of style. Active? Passive? Modern in design? Something more old school? Either way I'd buy a yamaha RBX or BB series or one of the higher end squires, Classic Vibe or Vintage Modified. Ibanez might also be worth taking into consideration if that's your type of thing. I'd also highly recommend buying second hand from our classified section where £400 will buy you any number of fantastic basses.

Passive basses

There's something missing in the tone of active basses in my opinion. I can't put my finger on what though. I've had a few actives in my time, from stingrays to shukers and every one has had something missing.
3. What's it sound like? Modern?
4. That's lush. I used to have an elite II in white. I think they're pretty much the same electronically. How are you finding the neck profile and narrow string spacing? I think I'd have kept mine had it been a natural finish. The white and gold was a bit glam for me.
5. I don't really get on with active basses though. But yeah, something along those lines
6. I love this! I don't have anything gibson or of similar value to trade though. I bet it rocks!
7. This thread is giving me terrible explorer GAS. Has anyone ever produced one with two P pickups? If not i may have to commission one with them..... Or a pair of di marzio model ones.
8. I love that. It's black without being too gothy looking.
9. Budgie wouldn't have been right without Burke Shelley either.
10. I like these too, wonky pickup or not. How much freedom do sandberg give you? If you wanted a P neck would they do it?
11.
Sorry I think that's the one I won last week. Arrived today and a quick clean up and some new DR Hi Beams on it................. I know people say they are good but i'm absolutely blown away - it just sounds incredible.
Pics?!
12. I suppose you could always put a set of thunder buckers or something in it. It has that awful bridge aswell though.
13. Always fancied an explorer. I fear this may just be a pointy thunderbird though. Pickups look the same. The original explorer bass had the pickups out of the grabber, which are amazing.
14. Love it! Wish I had a trade. Fantastic bass for £250.
15. I'm pretty sure it is. I don't mind a skinny radius but I need that wide nut. That's the only thing that puts me off the bass. I'm sure if you wanted to go US you could get a fat neck.
16. I've been fancying one of these too, just the J neck puts me right off.
17. I've had various Jap and Mex fenders in my time, and every one I've felt needed at least some modding (mostly due to the weak sounding pickups they all came with).
18. So this is short scale?
19. Is this basically a twin pickup modern looking 3001?
20. At the moment I love the Gretsh G5440LSB. It's a long scale hollow body beauty. I'd really like a white falcon but that's not gonna happen.
21. I want it! Shame I already have an orange 8x10 rig.
22. Just spotted this beauty online, it's an electromatic but costs over £800. Anyone played one? I want to know how it stacks up against a Jack Casady for instance.

SOLD

Why not put passive pickups in it and change the controls to vol/vol/tone/tone?
24. Thank god! I've been waiting with baited breath
