There are plenty of bands/styles I dislike, but few of them actually 'bother' me. Except that is for The Doors. I think the hatred is worsened by the adulation and worship heaped upon them , particularly Morrison. Gah! Oh, and Guns n' Roses, but I can put that entirely down to the vocal stylings of Mr Rose. Funnily, considering he ripped off the style completely, I love a bit of Nazareth.
I quite like the music of the Doors, but all the hero worship of Jim Morrison as some kind of poet for the hippy generation always put me off them. Guns n' Roses are the nadir of bad rock music. Utterly revolting, with no redeeming features whatsoever.
Guess I'm just too old, but Scouting for girls really irritates me. It sounds too jimmy saville/ Rolf Harris
Really??? I agree it's a bit of a fey, even slightly camp name but I think it's a bit of a stretch to make that association. Now Tight Fit on the other hand...

Metal of all flavours. Ok if you are 14 I guess and trying to annoy your parents. This goes to 11....

Good luthier in Merseyside/North West?

Another recommend for KGB in Birkenhead, but then I'm biased as I have one of his basses... -
I don't play covers and generally have no interest in playing someone else's basslines, so I normally just play a range of my own things to see how the bass works for my style of playing. I certainly wouldn't try to do anything super technical, even if I had those kind of abilities. Remember, no one likes a show off...

Ha, I was going to say groove. Excellent, I want that on a t-shirt
My understanding of jamming coincides with Blue's observation. Some friends would get into a room with no pre-planned song list; someone randomly starts playing a pattern, a riff or some chords and everyone else follows along. Over time the 'song' mutates, winds down, re-starts, wanders off and comes back. There may be a pause while someone puts the kettle on or - perhaps - constructs a Camberwell Carrot. Then you start playing again. Repeat until everyone's bored or the neighbours call the council. It [s]can[/s] used to go on for ages - the longest I ever jammed was about ten hours including comfort breaks. You'd come back from having a piss and they'd have moved the jam on a notch. Or not
Yup, this is pretty much my recollection of the jamming I used to participate in back in the 1980s. Drummer mate of mine had tolerant (deaf?) parents with a big house with a cellar, so we were lucky in that we had somewhere to 'hang out' and have endless jam sessions, generally involving various forms of herbal/fungal refreshment. There was a bucket piss in the corner at one point with a frog living in it... happy days ideed. Jamming was pretty much how we all learnt to play in those days, and I still think there is great deal of benefit to be had from it. I may not have all of the technical chops that a lot of modern taught players have, but I generally have no issue coming up with a bassline on the spot.

Hi all, I'm looking for someone in the North West area to work with on a new songwriting/recording project. I've got shedload of tunes, I just need someone who can do some words and croon a bit.... Stylistically, my stuff is quite varied, but I'm pretty adaptable and happy to rework things, develop new ideas to suit etc. Tunes here https://soundcloud.com/jellyknees , loads more in the pipeline... Thanks for looking and listening. Neil

Just came across it and thought it interesting.

Ha, I posted about this 432Hz stuff a while back. A hippy dippy goji berry munching friend of mine told me all about it in excited reverential tones. When he told me that it contained 'more harmonics' I practically fell about laughing. A good debunking can be found here... It's very 'meh' if you ask me, but I somehow suspect I'm not really their target audience...

I don't buy the story that his cabinets had busted speakers. Firstly, the sound engineer wouldn't mic the obviously cacked speakers and secondly you could not expect wrecked speakers to perform consistently, especially having been lugged in and out of clubs and up flights of stairs. My experiences of blown or damaged speakers has always been the same; rubbish or non-existent sound.

According to Hugh Cornwell's biography, JJ originally had a huge cab with 16 x 10" speakers or similar which gradually blew one at a time, giving him his distinctive dirty sound. Not sure if he was still using it when they recorded walk on by though. And I'm sure the sound engineer would have done whatever JJ told him to do.

Prince's Purple Rain springs to mind as something that formed the background to some of my more memorable teenage encounters... shows my age I guess. Hendrix and James Brown always seem to create the correct 'mood' for a spot of 'hokey pokey'...

Classic albums that you need to listen to.
JellyKnees replied to xgsjx's topic in General Discussion
The Ruts, Grin and Bear It. One of my favourite albums from the punk era. Powerfully and brilliant, such a shame Malcolm Owen died when he did. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=duxlVaQG90I -
I really like Beck's earlier stuff, I'm not adverse to a bit of Beyonce on occasion either, but Kanye is a prize tool. He's in danger of making Bonio look positively modest...

If you make a living out of music then that is your profession and you are therefore a professional. Doesn't mean you are necessarily any good of course... I've come across plently of crap builders, computer programmers, estate agents etc etc...

Ace, really enjoyed that!

Always really like Arthur Barrow's sound (of late 70s/early 80s Zappa fame)...I've been listening to this live album lately, his playing and sound is fantastic (the rest of the band aren't too shabby either)... Keep it Greasy (22.57) is extraordinary https://www.youtube....h?v=Yyr2cJHOi80

Bass mix in live concerts.... Disappointing?
JellyKnees replied to lowendgalore's topic in General Discussion
Best 'big gig' live sound I ever heard by a long way was Peter Gabriel at the Mancheter Area on his Growing Up tour. Stunningly clear, bass included. I was on the front row admittedly, so maybe it wasn't so good elsewhere in the arena, but still a benchmark live sound for me. -
Records were always better to skin up on...

Brazilian girl sent home trying to see Level 42 in UK
JellyKnees replied to blunderthumbs's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like she's in hot water. Perhaps she should have tried coming into Britain the chinese way? Bloody immigrants, coming over here listening to our dodgy 80s cod funk bands... -
But I don't want the new U2 album on my phone :-(
Could be worse - I've just seen on twitter that people with blackberries are getting a Nickleback album sent to their phones
Thank F*** I've just moved to a Nexus 5 in that case. The horror, the horror... Don't get the huge fuss over this though, just delete it.. or is that somehow 'difficult' on crapple products?
