  1. Some from back in the the mid 80s, '83 to '87 at a rough guess Unknown venue... Festival in Sefton park Another outdoor gig, no idea where but I seem to be using a pick... long time since that's happened! Think this was the Fire Station in Bootle... one of our gigs there turned into a bloody battle between the bouncers and some of the locals involving bottles and snooker cues...
  2. Thanks man, I guess everyone is tightening their belts at the moment. It's got a such great sound and I'm loathed to sell it but ergonomically is isn't working for me.
  3. I was gonna go to this but sadly a recent back injury meant that a trip across the river from the oblong of dreams was beyond my ability at the moment. Sounds like I've not missed much though.. what a shame.
  4. Why not? The world is pretty ludicrous, and some of the best music tends to reflect this in one way or other. Personally, I like some of Zappa's less cynical humour. Other bands I like whose oeuvre includes a degree of humour of one form or another would include The Tubes, Steely Dan, The Stranglers, Tom Waits, Primus the aforementioned 10cc to name but a few.
  5. Sold some ti flats to Davie, smooth transaction and excellent communication.. top fella!
  6. Sounds like a complete nightmare, and reinforces my belief that I did the right thing by not offering to ship my currently for sale Dingwall outside of the UK.
  7. JANUARY SALE - NOW ONLY £1700. GRAB YOURSELF A CANADIAN MADE DINGWALL FOR HALF THE PRICE OF A NEW ONE. YOU KNOW IT MAKES SENSE! After some soul searching, I'm looking to move on my 2 pickup ABZ 5 I got from bass direct in 2014. Swamp ash body, Wenge neck and fingerboard, weight 4.3 Kg, comes with Dingwall Levy's padded gig bag and Allen key set. I've also had a 3 band Glockenklang preamp (see here https://www.bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/Glockenklang_preamps.html) professionally fitted by KGB music in Birkenhead. For clarity, as I been asked about this a few times, this does not have the series/parallel option that the original fully passive configuration had, but personally I find the ability to pan between the pickups gives it far more tonal scope. The preamp is very neutral, with no noticeable colouration when the EQ is set to flat when compared to passive mode. The original wiring loom also comes with the bass. Much as I love the sound and feel of it, I've decided to move back to all standard scale basses for now. It's been treated well and the condition is pretty spot on apart from a couple of minor dinges on the lower edge of the body. I've attached a few pictures I took a couple of years ago and some more recent close ups. I would much prefer to sell locally if possible and am willing to meet up somewhere within an hour or two drive of Wirral, although I am prepared to ship within the UK to a trusted Basschatter at the buyer's expense. Also possibly open to trades for a similar quality 34" lightweight 5er. ******************************************WILL NOT SHIP OUTSIDE OF THE UK - PLEASE DON'T ASK AS YOU WILL BE IGNORED******************************************** Cheers, Neil
  8. Bought for my Dingwall for £65 from Bass Direct, fitted and play for a couple of months, but not really doing it for me. Postage included.

  10. Only just heard about this today, very sad news, was a huge fan of his playing with Sly, especially back in the 80s. Rythym killers was fantastic. Saw them with the taxi gang in Manchester in about 89, the air was heady and the bass did throb mightily. RIP dude.
  11. Bought this a couple of years ago as a backup cab, but have only used a handful of times for rehearsals/home, and have decided to move it on. It has a few scuff marks on the coating, which seems to be something these are particularly prone to, but otherwise it's good as new. I've fitted some good quality casters as it's fairly heavy, but these can obviously be easily removed if not required. I'm not posting this due to the weight, ideally the buyer collects, but will possibly meet up to exchange somewhere within 30 miles of Wirral.
  12. Not the slickest website, but... http://www.kgb-music.co.uk/ It was custom built for me by Keith back in 1991. It's pretty battered now and the lacquer has crazed but it still plays very well. I don't play it much now as I'm converted to 5 strings, but it's the one I would never sell.
  13. It's good, although the EMG pickup is a bit weak IMO. Is your the newer one with the Bart?
  14. Thanks man... the Spitfire is the latest addition, a trade for a Lakland 55/94... I always wanted something in Walnut and I now I have it. Most importantly, it sounds great too!
  15. As I can't get out and about with my new Sony A7 camera at the moment, I thought I'd get out in the back garden yesterday and take a few shots of my basses... enjoy https://www.flickr.com/photos/186548423@N07/albums/72157713789253053
  16. Computer programmer for the last 20 years. Christ I'm bored of IT.
  17. I've done exactly the same thing for the last 40 years and I've never had a problem. I mainly use Newtones too, although hex core, so perhaps that's why I've never had any issues. Aren't the vast majority of bass strings hex core anyway these days?
  18. Yeah well, y'know that's just like your opinion man...
  19. Stuart Lee on stage is a character who may or may not be as clever as Stuart Lee thinks he is. Many songs in the SD cannon seem to be written from the perspective of a certain type of character (or characters), who may or may not bear some relationship to the authors. Although the character of the stage version of Mr Lee and that of the protagonists of a great many Dan songs share a certain world weariness, it was an entirely fatuous comparison to which no significance should be attached. Having said that, if you don't dig the Dan then you should probably stop pretending to be a musician and take up collecting tapeworms or something more appropriate. 😎
  20. Nice? Have you listened to some of the lyrics? Sheesh...
