I only picked up a bass for the first time when I was 47, so perhaps when I reach 97 I might have got the hang of it? Thank god, something to look forward to other than my bus pass. Bob

Bought Kev's Overwater. No problems whatsoever. Fast delivery, very pleasant communications. Tempted to buy his 5 string as well, except that I cant play 5 string!

I could be interested, I'm in Tewkesbury as well. Curry Corner has got ideas above its station since it came second on Gordon Ramseys TV competition for curry houses in the UK. Their prices have shot up as well. Try the Eurasia around the corner. Its excellent and reasonable. My wife says their tandoori chicken is to die for!
Our guitarist has a Mesa Boogie amp that can only be used with planet waves cables after the previous owner used them exclusively, That was fine until a gig when he had left his cable bag at home! Luckily I have a short planet waves cable I use for a patch lead to my tuner, He had to stand right next to his amp all night. Get the socket sorted a ditch the PW cables IMO.
I have often wondered about Planet Waves cables, as the plugs seem "chunkier" than others! They grip the socket better, but I guess they probably weaken the spring inside quicker than a normal jack plug would? I'll try a different make, but I think the damage has been done now.

Has anyone had a problem with the input jack on a RH 450 head? Last song of the night (thankfully!) last night my bass went quiet on me, and I assumed the battery had died (even though it was fresh). Got home and checked everything out, and all worked fine, except that the input jack on the head seemed to be loose inside. The cable I was using (a Planet Waves) had to be pushed right in to work, and it moved easily out a couple of mm with no pressure, at which point the signal was cut off. Just a tiny, tiny distance. Different cables seemed to "stick" in the socket a bit better, but still loose, as if a bit of spring metal inside needed bending a tad to make a better contact. Qustion is, and I have e mailed the good folks at TC asking the same thing, can you bend the jack contact, or do you have to have a new one fitted?

My wife has solved the problem by becoming our roadie! She is in charge of the lights, provides a pair of ears on the dance floor at sound checks and during the gig, gets us drinks with only minor moans and groans, helps us pack up and even looks after our singers baby during the gig. Occasionally, she drives the band bus as well. No idea what I would do without her, even after all these years married (35 this year). She even lets me spend her money on my basses......... ACG Gallus, with side leds and hardcase. Recently completed Gallus, which is one of Alans stylish designs, combined with his immaculate workmanship. Absolutely mint in every way, and has amber Sims leds fitted in the side of the neck to help those (like me) who are in trouble on a dark stage! Alans spec is as follows: Ash body with Mac Ebony top and a Wenge/Ash accent. Wenge/Bloodwood 5 piece neck with an acrylic impregnated Black Limba finger board. ACG EQ01 with a SB in the bridge and a RFB in the neck. Amber LED's in the side dots. Satin finish I have 3 other ACGs which I use all the time, so the Gallus doesnt really get what it deserves, so is anyone interested at £1100? The build price, including the leds was far more than this only a few months ago. Cheers, Bob NOW TRADED
Sounds like a Graft could be just what I'm after - lightish, balanced and simple. For less than £1k
A LOT less than £1k!!! Enough change to buy a GK MB200 amp (the tiniest proper amp head I have ever seen) to go with it, and it would still weigh less than a 70's P bass.............
-
My Graft is so light I have added lead shot to stop it floating away! I havent really (only kidding), but its a very light bass (Recurve Graft), and it sounds superb and plays like a dream as well, for hardly any money.......... I cant recommend it any higher. Cheers, Bob
Hi Bob, I think a lot of people in industry and engineering are feeling the same. More work + less bodies = more stress. It'd be a shame to sell your collection. Consider voluntary redundancy / early retirement and take on a part time job elsewhere with little or no stress. Supplement with playing more regularly assuming that with your collection of basses you must be a fairly reasonable / competent if not great player. How's that for an improved retirement plan. My consultation invoice is in the post. Good luck whatever you do. I'm in similar boat as yourself so know the feeling. Cheers Dave
Cheers Dave! Good advice, and I am looking into the voluntary redundancy thing as a possibility. My collection is better quality than my playing though! Sometimes I suffer badly from delusions of adequacy........ I think your invoice must be lost in the post? Cheers, Bob
HHmmmm I spy the words MM and Stingray in that sig, EBMM or MM im intrigued already
2008 white 3eq I'm afraid! Very reasonable £750........ Thanks for all the advice guys. I quite like the "ask for redundancy", which I may well do when I get back from next weeks fishing holiday (7 days in Devon in a cottage surrounded by 7 lakes, trying to chill out and get away from BG). Its not something I had thought about before. Single ads sound like the best way to go, although I have had quite a few enquiries already just based on my sig. Just out of interest, The likely candidates are (and I know this isnt the for sale section, sorry!): 2009 Wal 2008 Stingray 2008 Lakland DJ Yamaha BX hollowbody MTD Grendel ACG Gallus (already for sale via ACG) 2009 Status S2 neckthrough with full leds Gibson faded Les Paul double cut guitar 12 string Farida acoustic guitar TC 212 cabinet Maybe others, I dont know yet how far I want to go. Cheers, Bob
Agreed. The odds of unearthing a decent honest buyer are way higher on BassChat (I've done so many deals yet not had a bad'un yet). Go to eBay if it doesn't shift PS, is the Wal a 5'er in which case I might be interested?
Hi Clarky. No, its a 4'er sorry! It was the first one made in the current run, using, so I believe, old stock timbers. Its gorgeous, but I've never played it since I bought it, I'm so aware of its value/provenance (snap yourself out of it man. Its only a bass guitar!)

For the last few months, I have been trying to work out how I can either retire early, or at least cut down on the days I work. The pressure in my job has increased so much in the last year since we were taken over by British Gas that at 57 years of age I dont think I can hack it much longer. One of the things that would release a little capital into the retirement planning fund would be to sell off several of my basses, especially the ones that I dont use to gig with. Problem is, there are quite a few of them, and I dont know which ones, if any, I really want to sell! All of the ones I have are cherished for one reason or another, although some more than others. For example, I have a Pedulla Thunderbolt which I adore, and was bought for me by the good Lady Palt as a silver wedding present, so that wont go. I have several ACGs, which, with the exception of one which Alan is trying to sell for me I dont want to part with, being very personal. I have a couple of Roscoes, which just feel like the best basses in the world whenever I pick them up, and a Yamaha 2024X which I gig with. Other than that, I guess the rest are available. Question is, what is the best way to sell them? Lots of seperate ads on the forum, one big ad listing them all, word of mouth or heaven forbid Ebay? I have sold and bought many basses on here, and loved every transaction with nice genuine people who are all very passionate about their basses. This is a bit of a "bulk" sale, as I guess I will be selling everything else off my sig (including the first "new" 2009 Wal to be made). Any advice would be gratefully recieved. Cheers, Bob

Not going to help much either, but I had a Broadkaster a few years back and it was rubbish as well. I have never heard a more insipid, lifeless sound come from such a good looking bass (apart from Russ's Thunderjet, which I bought from him!).
One of these. I can't decide whether in white or black though. I've wanted white for a long time but just look at it in black...
Dont know if this will help or hinder, but I have a "white" 2024x, and its not really white at all! Its deep creamy/yellowy, and looks much nicer than just plain white! Brilliant, brilliant bass by the way. Bob

Anyone interested in a brand new pair of Stagg 12" pa speaker cases? They are very nice, with extra pockets, etc, and are only for sale because I ordered a pair of 10" speaker cases, and the suppliers sent the wrong ones. Despite me immediately informing them that they had sent the wrong cases, they said tough luck, as I had signed for them and they were mine now to do with as I saw fit! I have had to buy another pair of cases (from a different supplier), and now have these for sale. One of them has been opened to look at, and the other is still in its sealed bag. I have a pair of Warwick bags for a different speaker, and these are really just as good, well padded and quite stylish. £40, and a fiver for postage sound ok? NOW SOLD
"That's HUGE!!", but it was actually a Tench, so not sure if that counts?
Caught my first Tench for 30 years yesterday! Was I a happy bunny or what!

Two middle aged ladies came up to me at half time once and said "Could we ask you a question? Are you a teacher?". I said no, but why did they ask, and the answer was that they had been watching me play the bass and my hands were so smooth it didnt look like I had done a days work in my life!!! Thats the nearest to a compliment I have ever had.................................

Owned a Broadkaster, as well as, a couple of years later, Russ's Thunderjet. Both beautiful to look at, nice to play, absolutely awful to listen to! Flat, boring tones. No depth,no excitement. to be honest, no use whatsoever to me in the band, A real shame as they were both cool as a polar bears toenails to look at. Maybe there should be a market for replacement pickups and a retrofit pre amp?

On the upside, Bob, I am loving your avatar. Entirely encapsulates that 'cornucopia of choice' moment that makes life worth living.
And you know the funny thing, its a genuine photo, not staged, of me on a golf tour with the lads faced with the hardest choice of my life............... Bob

I've had many wonderful deals on here, met some fantastic guys and have aquired/sold equipment at excellent prices, so I cant complain at all. Only minor hiccup was when I waited in all Saturday morning and afternoon for someone who was coming round to collect and pay for a bass, then he e mailed me in the evening to say sorry, but he had popped into PMT as he was passing it and spent all the money on another bass!! Just to rub salt in the wounds he then told me it was an impulse purchase and he didnt really like it when he got home......(serves him right!)

We are very fair in my band. I've stood next to the same guitarist for ten years, and he has gone deaf in one ear and so have I, and both have hearing aids now. Our type of deafness is almost identical (the audiologist who tested both of us immediately identified us as musicians from the test results), so we have made one another deaf! We are both mid 50s, and hadnt suffered at all until 2 or 3 years ago, so wear those plugs and dont be mugs!
