1.
With all the basses you've had Bob, I find it amazing that you didn't buy another bass when you were in that state!
Ah, but I have done that as well........................
2. I went to the Tewkesbury Beer Festival once. Only had 4 pints all night, although they were all 9-11 proof alcohol, felt absolutely fine. Invited a couple of friends back for a nightcap, after which, my dear wife took them home and I went to bed. Next day, I turned the computer on, and found that in the middle of the night I had got up, obviously hideously more drunk than I thought I was, turned on the computer, logged on to EBay USA and bought/paid for a new saxophone, an instrument I had never ever considered buying and had no desire for!!! To this day, I have no recollection whatsoever of the transaction, but it was me alright! Sold it the day it arrived to one of the guys who had been at the beer festival with me......
3. Another deal with Sean, completed in record time! He was kind enough to deliver the bass to my home within minutes of being paid, and is a super guy to do business with. Cheers! Bob
4. Another super deal with Chris. Delivery to my house in person, a great price and a great bass. Perfect! Cheers, Bob
5. I said it would be worth the wait! Enjoy it Stu. Cheers, Bob
6. I might be interested in a really interesting trade/part trade? Perhaps a mint Stingray (although I'm particular about some colours!) or are there any other (not old basses please) different basses or even rigs (15" speakers) out there?
7. Just bought a Warwick $$ from Callum, and the whole deal was a real pleasure from beginning to end. No problems at all. Thanks Callum, Cheers, Bob
8. I bought one a couple of weeks back that was faulty (didnt work!) when it arrived, and for the not inconsiderable money, to be honest, felt quite cheap and basic. I know they are fun to play and sound good (I had played a fully functioning model a few days before!), but was not impressed when I had a close look at mine. Got an immediate refund when I sent it back.
9. Gretsch basses. I have owned a couple and played a few, they were all amazing to look at and well made, but dear oh dear, the sound! I have heard more exciting tones from my mother in laws washing line. DULL!!!
10.
I have an M13 I'd trade towards this but I don't have the cash for the rest unless you wanted a lovely shortscale vintage hofner to play in your reitrement and some cash Cheers
Hi . Interesting! I did used to own a Hofner Club, and sort of regret selling it, but have never really been into vintage instruments. Do you want to pm me with the details just in case? Cheers, Bob
11. Bump.... Any interesting trades (preferably with leds), or maybe a Marshall 401 guitar amp/Line 6 M13 (for my guitar playing friend) as a part trade?
12. I have a mint (one gig only) Orange Bass Terror, which although I really like it, doesnt really fit in with what I wanted to use it for. I have my main gigging rig, and hoped (although I probably should have known better), to use it with a TC 112 cab until I could get hold of an Orange 212 cab, for smaller gigs, like the semi-acoustic gig we did on Friday. It just wasnt quite right though, being too aggressive for want of a better word, and whilst it would certainly cope admirably as my main gigging amp, I have 2 TC amps for that purpose. I did think it might make sense trying to swap it for a GB Shuttle, but have now decided it would probably be easier to sell, and then take my time choosing a replacement. Anyway, is anybody interested? Its in its case, as new, boxed, hardly used. Photos if needed, but I'm at work at the moment..... Thanks for looking, Bob NOW SOLD, subject to receipt of payment.
13. No joy with ebay, so she is still for sale.......................
14.
If you order a Carbon-Fibre replacement neck for a P, J, Ray or Ray 5 from Status you can specify front, side or both LEDs. Quite expensive though. Recently heard that Simms had put their prices up to go-away values.
I'm a massive led fan, and have them fitted by Martin Sims to all of new gigging basses I buy (although I am hesitating at fitting them to the Wal I got the other day because so many people have said I would be mad to do it........). I only have top leds so I can see thm on a dark stage, and Martin does a good job. He has put his prices up recently, but to be fair, they have been the same for years, so no arguments there. Bob
15.
is this the thing your talkin about. I have give up with the online thing and stickin to ebay and Amazon. I 'bought' a thing from a music store and a week later after I asked where it was, got told they were waiting on them coming into stock it would be three months. This despite it being in stock on the website.
Thats it, and it says "available to buy", which it plainly isnt, as the last one is sat in my hallway now.......
16.
Just found this in a review: Note that the pickup system is completely passive: There’s no preamp, no volume control, no EQ knobs, not even a passive tone—just plug a cord into the endpin jack, fire up the amp, and you’re off. As with most passive piezo pickups, for the best sound you’ll need to use an amp with at least a 1 meg-ohm input impedance or add a separate preamp box. Don't know if this helps or not though
I thought that there probably would be a lack of output, but it wouldnt even drive my tuner! I was using an Orange Bass Terror, so I presume that should have been ok?
17.
Westside Music Centres, Taunton did you say?
I did. Do you know them? They seemed quite pleasant when taking my order.
18. I can't believe how disappointed and, yes, angry I feel at the moment, over something so small. I tried out one of the new Kala U Basses (the ukulele thing) in Bassdirect the other day, and was really blown away by it. The only problem was, (apart from the cost), I didnt like the mahogany top, and thought it looked cheap. Anyway, I saw a spruce version advertized by a company in Taunton called Westside Music Centres, who specialize in ukuleles, and they confirmed, yes, they had one in stock, it was a bit cheaper than the mahogany version, and the most important thing (I have an acoustic gig on Saturday that it would be PERFECT for), they could deliver it today. It arrived as promised, but the first thing I noticed was that it was loose in a cardboard box, surrounded by a few handfuls of shredded paper, and not the gig bag it was supposed to be supplied with. No matter, Westside had included in the box (why they hadnt put the instrument in it for the journey I dont know), quite a nice Stagg pod case. There was no paperwork of any kind in the box, and to be honest, it was so dusty it looked like it had been hanging in the shop for a while. I plugged it into a tuner, nothing. Tried it into my amp, nothing. Tried 3 different leads, as it didnt seem to be producing a signal of any kind, nothing. I took the tiny panel off the back to see if anything electrical had fallen off in transit, and all was ok, so it is obviously faulty in some way. I rang the dealer, who on the website professes to check everything out before it is sent, and promises exceptional customer service, only to be told that they were sorry, there was nothing they could do as there were no more spruce models due till the end of October, but they would send me a new mahogany one if I paid the difference in price. I said no, both to paying more for their error in sending a faulty uke and because I dont like them, and expressed massive disappointment, as the only reason they had got my order was because they could deliver today for the gig saturday. This had no effect, and to compound the problem, the guy said that they would arrange collection, but would only refund my money when they got it back and confirmed it "really was faulty". That just rubbed salt in. I know I am disappointed, but does it really annoy other people like it does me when shops say that they offer wonderful service, that they check every item, etc etc, when these are obviously just words, and what they really do is throw things in boxes just like the rest? This is not the first time I have been sorely disappointed by a lack of promised "superlative service", and I'm sure it wont be the last. Promises and boasts are just words on a page, when all is said and done.
19. Oh well, no interest here. Off to Ebay..........
20. No interest for a brilliant, cheap bass?
21.
Bob, looks like the body could be Spanish cedar. My old perception was cedar (with a walnut top) and looked very much like this. It was lightweight too - about 7.5lbs. Might be more info on the reverse side of the control cavity cover.
You know, I almost said in the ad that I thought the body was Spanish Cedar, but I wasnt sure. I seemed to remember Chris May telling me thats what it was. I have just weighed it, and its just under 7lb 8oz, so I guess it must be Spanish Cedar to be that light, and stained to look like mahogany, which would explain the 2 little marks where the stain has rubbed off. It doesnt say on the rear of the control plate what the woods are, but it does say it was made on 1st August 2007, and its a "Perception Std Deluxe Plus", which sounds a bit more betterer than just a Perception! Cheers, Bob
