Actually, his (Hugh's) dad was and is Andy Manson, a spectacularly gifted luthier who has produced some beautiful instruments over the last thirty five years.
I thought they were brothers? I've owned a couple of Hugh's "E" basses, one of which was made for me with different kinds of shark inlaid on the fingerboard (!). The workmanship was superb, and the wood he uses sublime, but they are very expensive. When I eventually traded it in, I believe that the guy behind me in the shop actually bought it as soon as I left, and went to the cafe outside, where he phoned his mate to come and have a look at the fantastic bass he had just bought. Mate arrives, friend opens case, bass falls out onto hard floor and neck snaps............ I couldnt believe how unlucky the poor guy was, but Mansons got a big repair job minutes after selling the bass! Hugh is a great guy to deal with, as are Adrian, Jay and the rest of the guys at what must be one of the friendliest and most professional music shops in the UK.

Just taken delivery of Toms Cort bass, exactly as described and superbly packed. Its always a pleasure dealing with Tom, and I could recommend him to anyone. Bob

I will second that! Bought Sean's Mayones bass over the weekend, its absolutely spot on and and Sean was a pleasure to deal with. Hope to do business in the future! Cheers, Bob

I have a TC450 amp and 2 x TC 210 cabs, and was slightly disappointed with the sound, until I bought one of the single 12" matching cabs. Wow! Its night and day. Now I just use a single 210 cab and the 12" together, and the sound has filled out beautifully. Have a try with your combo and a 112 cab, you will be amazed. Cheers, Bob

Traded my Roscoe for Dan's Status today, and the deal could not have been more pleasant. Excellent communications and a really friendly guy. Hope you love the bass Dan! Cheers, Bob

Rare as hens teeth - and soon to be residing at Chez Burp!
bobpalt replied to neilb's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
Bob Asstute observation but not strictly correct. the Pre amp was available in the first models as an option, as was teh option of a Piezo bridge. The passive ones didnt sell well and so they were all made after '01 with the preamp installed. You could however specify that you wanted it passive right up until the end of the production run (but why you would, is a mystery to me). This info was passed to me by Stevensville after I was enquiring about my '01 passive and if I could retro fit the pre-amp. As to it being a proto. I'd be fairly happy (even without the reply from Stevensville) to say its not. I'm also pretty happy that the serial # on the neck shown in those ebay pics is not original.
Ah, I didnt know that. I thought it just changed from passive to active in 2001. I owned 3 of them at one time, and really regret selling them now, if they are worth that much. I didnt get much more than £500 for any of them, including one that was a 10 top with birds! -

It cant be a prototype for at least 2 reasons I can see. Its a 2001 model and they came out in 2000, and the first models didnt sell as well as PRS had hoped because they were totally passive. The active version came in sometime in 2001 and turned it into a much better bass. This is an active bass. -
THIS BASS HAS NOW BEEN TRADED, Many thanks Dan! I really dont know why, but I keep having urges to learn 5 string bass, and a few months ago, bought this Roscoe LG3005 bass, brand new from Mark at Bassdirect for £2,500 or so. It really is the most beautiful bass I have ever owned, being, I was advised, a cancelled custom order to Roscoes, which explains why it has a translucent black back, with gold pinstripes and a high gloss finish, diamondwood nut and absolute top quality flamed maple cap. The fingerboard is spalted purpleheart, the neck is flat profile with 19mm spacing at the bridge, the body is small, heavily contoured and shaped, and its lightweight as well. Custom Bartolini pickups and preamp are fitted, with straplocks, a fitted Roscoe branded hardcase and all paperwork. Its about a year old, and I cant stress how mint it is. Anyone who went to the Moffat Bass Bash will recognize it, as thats the only time its been out of the house, and it was well received by the 5 string players there. The tone is out of this world, its set up to play like a dream, but I cant get to grips with five strings no matter how hard I try! I would really like to exchange or part exchange for an equal quality 4 string bass, preferably with leds on the neck, or would sell for £1,800 or so. I have owned 3 Seis in the past and loved every one, so would certainly be interested if one came up, or what have you in the same ballpark, but with one less string? The specs are: ROSCOE LG 3005 - Five string • Ash Body, Flame Maple Top • Maple/Purpleheart/Maple neck with contrasting stringers • Spalted Purpleheart fingerboard • 35" Scale - 24 fret • Bartolini 3-band pre amp, Bartolini/Roscoe Pickups • Black hipshot ultralight hardware and fully fitted hardcase. GENZ BENZ REGISTRATION LINK FOR UK AMPS PURCHASED
bobpalt replied to amenra's topic in Amps and Cabs
I think you have to accept the guarantee you get from where you purchased it (usually 12 months). I had a problem with a Genz amp last year, and Geoff Genzlers own response was to take it back to where you bought it from and get them to sort the problem out. He said they didnt have any service facility in this country, so I was on my own! I was amazed with this attitude, because I had heard nothing but good reports about Genz's customer service? -
Do you mean the rig didn't have enough bottom end girth? I haven't gigged all mine yet, but I opted for a 212 as well so I had lots of choice. Despite the problems of mixing drivers, the rs212+210 sounds great to me at a highish volume. Are you missing the thump? Those tens are very punchy by nature. The amp has tons of low end...I have to back it off haha!
Its hard to explain, but the sound seemed to be all mids, with not a great deal of bottom, and our sound guy said it was masking the guitar sounds in some way? We had to dial a lot of the mids out on the bass, and a little on the amp, and turn the tweeters down, which left me with a warm fuzzy sound, which of course could have been due to the room, so I will reserve judgement until a few more gigs are under my belt. The bass sound on stage didnt travel to the far side of the stage very well though, when usually the guys can hear me fine over there. I did go to Bassdirect with the intention of buying a 210 and a 212, and actually preferred the sound of the 12s, but Mark explained that having a mixture of sizes wasnt always a good thing and the 10s would be great. I hope the addition of a single 12 may help? I didnt actually realize that the 212s would be that much bigger than the 210s either, which I didnt really want.

Thanks guys, for all the advice. It is a Rebel Head (but I have also bought a Classic as well to use as a back up, as I was so convinced I would be very happy with the sound) It has replaced a Mesa Boogie Fathom/Carbine combo, which was superb, and I'm really glad that Martin, who bought it off me, is loving it! My wife said I was crazy selling it, as she thought the Mesa was a quantum leap better than any amp I have ever had (and told me again at the gig last night, which didnt help!) I have to admit that almost the sole reason for buying the TC rig, apart from the great reviews, was because I thought the idea of a "high" stack, putting one tall cab on top of another, would help me to hear what I was playing on stage. I have a hearing aid coming next month, as I have (through playing in the band) lost most of my high frequencies and am finding it more and more difficult to hear on stage. I rely very much on our sound man for stage adjustments. I hope that adding the single 12 might fill the sound out a bit, but of course, I havent given it a proper run out yet, and only time and adjustment/experiment will tell. I guess with all the hype I just thought that I would switch it on and be in paradise! TC tuner coming on Monday, which stupidly, I am quite excited about!!! Bob

I did my first proper gig last night with my new TC450 and 2 x 210 TC cabs, and along with our soundman, was mildly disappointed, which really surprised me as at home and in the shop, I was blown away by the sound and couldnt wait to get on stage. The gig was in a fair sized room with high ceilings in a stately home, on a solid floor (no stage), and I was using a Zon Custom bass, but try as we did (and there are still a shedload of control knob combinations we didnt try due to time constraints), we couldnt seem to get rid of a heavy mid bias in the sound without going very "soft and bottomy", which we settled on. I guess it was a combination of the somewhat sterile sound of the Zon, the room itself, the 10" speakers and a lack of familiarity with the amp and cabs, but it wasnt great. I have therefore bought a single 112 TC cab to put under a 210 cab, rather than use 2 x 210 cabs to see if that is any better. What do the panel think of this as a solution? Is it more likely to be a bass/room problem, or something we will resolve when we have used the system more and got used to it, or maybe its the inherent sound of TC systems that I just have to get used to? I love the ergonomics of the amp, and have several other basses I could use that maybe arent as clinical as the Zon, but has anyone had a similar experience?
You can never have too many bass's, Oh hang on my wife begs to differ Nice guitar Bob, tempting.
I am trying to work out how I can possibly take early retirement, so I will probably be selling a few things off in the near future to lessen my ties to those twisting s*"*s at the Halifax,(I have had some money invested in one of their special bonds for 8 years now, and when I tried to withdraw it (it has made a grand total of 3.46% interest over the WHOLE of the 8 year period), they told me I would have to pay them a £2,600 PENALTY!!! Words fail me.). Look out for some more stuff soon, but in the meantime, any offers on this guitar? Jules is probably the only one on this site who has seen it in the flesh (hope you and your better half are keeping well Jules). Cheers, Bob
Yahaha SG1000 Here are some pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/26088903@N05/...57623371872468/ I believe it is a 1981 model. The top and neck and headstock are in good condition for a 30 year old guitar though it has some dings on the bottom edge as you can see in the photo. The brown stuff on the plastic is the original backing paper which can be removed if required.
Hi. Looks like a really nice guitar, and I believe the older Yams now have serious collector values, but any trades would have to be bass stuff, sorry, as I really am not a guitar player! Thanks Anyway, Cheers, Bob

Just completed a deal with Tom. Immediate (and I really mean immediate!) payment, friendly, what more could you want? Hope you really enjoy the P bass Tom, and I look forward to dealing with you again in the future. Cheers, Bob
