Well, here's me playing mine (yes, its on a station platform.........) a few weeks ago! Its a Sonus Custom, with full Sims leds on the front and side edge. Redwood (although someone told me at the Moffat Bash over the weekend that they thought it was really Bubinga) and ash body. Brilliant bass! Bob

Just got back home to Gloucestershire. Drive took 6 hours 50 mins because of rotten weather and at least 20 sets of road works on the M6 and M5, but it was worth every minute. Met some great guys, fumbled with some great basses, ate some good food. What more could a boy want? Cheers everyone (and Alan of course!) for making us so welcome. Bob & Sue
Never seen these before! Im interested though... anyone here with experience? Do they come off again without ripping the lacquer off? I assume they are stuck via adhesive... Anyone got a set they want to part with?
I've tried a few sets, both the originals with individual tiny leds and the later fibre optic ones. It looks like they have gone back to the original leds, which I have to say were WAY better than the fibre optics. The fibre itself had to be stuck to the neck using a special piece of sellotape, which in my experience (I tried 2 different sets), was absolutely useless at sticking to anything. After a few minutes, it just curled up and fell off, and I could see no way of making it stay put. Neat idea, absolute rubbish. The older strip of tiny leds, which seems from the web site to be what they are using now, was quite good, and worked really well on my PRS bass for quite some time, until the plastic strip holding the leds went a little brittle and the thin wire connecting the bulbs snapped when the strip moved. I would be tempted to give these a go again, as they are so cheap to buy. I have 5 basses with Sims leds, and as long as you dont expect them to be as good, they will be fine. They come off easily with no damage, and the battery pack, though a bit unsightly, is no problem. Bob

Certainly has happenned, and its really scary because I play with a bunch of musos who can spot a single wrong note a mile off, and they turn as one (well, maybe not the rhythm guitarist who is at the same keen but superficially talented level as me) and scowl at me. Thats the problem of being in a band with 3 teachers I suppose. Anyway, to combat that, I have a music stand and book in front of me (usually hidden behind the sub speaker or lights)which I use all the time as a crutch, just in case. Sod the rest of them who moan at me for being "unprofessional". Which is worse, a crib book or possible jazz improvizations in the middle of I am the One and Only? How many of the BassChat gang use music books? I find doing 40-50 covers a night sometimes tests my 55 year old memory and I think I would panic now without it (although I dont even look at it for 90% of the songs)?

Is there a prize for who comes the furthest? I'm coming with Mrs Bob from Tewkesbury (270 miles). Anything you want me to bring from my signature below? I'm not coming in a removals van though, so space is a bit limited........ Looking forward to it already. Cancelled a Halloween gig I didnt really want to do in a local pub with a whole load of other musos who hog the limelight and make me look like the atypical bass player, i.e. the fat old bloke who stands at the back! Cheers, Bob

More praise for Alan! Yet again, brought his gorgeous Shuker bass all the way to my house, no worries about rough handling in the post, and was a true pleasure to deal with. Thanks! Cheers, Bob

What actually causes a "dead" string? Bob
-
Just took delivery of a brand new 2009 American Standard Precision today, which appears to be spot on, but to be honest, it sounds really dull! The D string is dead, and I have had to lift the pickup height to get a balance of volume on the others. Is it possible that the strings on a brand new bass are knackered in some way? I bought it from GAK and assumed it would be fresh in a box, but it sure looks like it might have been on display somewhere, so I guess this might explain it. Or are Fender strings not of the best quality? Bob

Trying to find a pic of a bass - that was in American Basses book...

Good luck with the sale though, its a beauty and the guitarist from all time low uses one too. Chiron
Thanks for trying Chiron. Anyone else out there after a brilliant guitar at a good price? 2008 PRS Mira guitar and hardcase. Not really sure why I bought this, as I dont play much guitar, but I really liked the colour! It has sat in its case ever since, so is totally mint. Its not the cheaper "X" version, its the original model, with the coil tap switch, and really sounds and plays superb. They retail at about £1,400, discount at about £1,150, and I would like £845 please. Cheers, Bob Now sold thanks.
I've said it before, but BobP (0riginal owner) has exquisite taste in basses, and this is no exception. I'm pretty sure I had a brief dabble on this when I picked up my Sei from him. Nice. Good luck with the sale. Jules
Why thank you Jules! Very nice of you to say so. Pop by anytime you want, to see the latest additions to the collection ( 2 x Roscoes, new ACG, Fender, Shuker, Sandberg etc). I dont want to sidetrack the thread though. This is an absolutely gorgeous bass, feather light and fabulous to play and admire. The only problem I had was that I am not a fretless player, otherwise no way would I have sold her. In fact, I closely modelled my new ACG (fretted!) on her. All the best to you both, Cheers, Bob

This really has to be the last reduction in price. For the whole rig, and I can't split it for this price, £950 collected. I really will have to put it on e bay, split into 2 lots, if it doesnt sell now, which would be a shame as its a superb set up which is wonderful value at this price (which I do say so myself, as I would.....)
