Bands I've been in have always been songs chosen by full consensus. If just one member doesn't want to play a particular song - that's it - it's not even rehearsed. Being in a covers band is all about every member enjoying what you all play together, otherwise - IMO - absolutely no point in continuing with the considerable effort of getting to a gig π Takes a bit of time to get a decent set together, but when you're all happy playing what you've picked to play... result can be great ππΌ And FWIW - I've mostly been in bands that play tunes yer Granny can whistle along to - the majority of the time π

Yup, my choice too, got these on both my gigging basses ππΌ

A number of years ago I had first dibs on a 1979 Wal Pro11e in natural finish on here, my dream bass for a lonnnng time. Incredibly, and completely out of the blue, a day or so later job losses were announced for a large section of our workforce, including me π£ With four kids to support I couldn't justify the Β£1700 price tag.. π It went to a fellow basschatter of course, and I pm'd him to congratulate him on his new acquisition. But I've never quite got over missing out on that bass... π

Bit late to the party, but yet another superb example of @Andyjr1515 amazing skills, well done - once again, beautiful work πππΌ -

Level 42 currently on tour... who's gone/going?

I missed out on tickets βΉοΈ Saw them last year, and the horn section, choreography, and most of all THAT drummer have elevated the band to possibly their best inception IMO. MK and ML are obviously enjoying the new onstage vibe, their collective playing was absolutely brilliant. And yeh, Mark King doesn't just do slap, his finger playing is superb - and then he goes and sings over the top of it! MintππΌ -

For me, it was the lack of bass guitar in the mix. I saw these at a local 80's festival last year, and the band were outstanding, and so was the bassist. I was curious to see how good they'd be, and I thought they were really good ππΌ

Oh aye, and that drummer is certainly a bit tasty π² -

I would say (certainly with a covers band) it totally depends on which song the fretless bass is part of. Some songs would demand it, some not. On certain songs from the Paul Young 'No Parlez' and beyond stuff, Pino Palladino played fretless straight with little to no vibrato. Jack Bruce with Cream too. If it enhances what's going on with the bassline, fair enough. Can't say it's ever bugged me watching someone playing fretless with vibrato though.. Mwaaah π -
Took me weeks to nail it π
-
Oh, and this one also on fretless. What a great bass line IMO ππΌ I found this a real challenge to play and sing vocals over the top, but one of my favourite 80's songs ππΌ
-
Nicely done Mike, it's a great line to play ππΌ Our guitarist plays the muted trumpet solo on his Roland guitar synth, we see some puzzled looks on faces when he does that on guitar π€
