1. I just think it sounded warmer/better. I've had both Deluxe versions and this Ultra and the original was the best. Although I must say the Pike Vulcan I had for a short while was awesome.
2. Ideally looking to trade my DG VU for a DG Vintage Deluxe with and "era" control or a Pike Vulcan XL and £100 my way.
3. I should say I'm open to offers. But no trades unless it's for a Helix.
4.
Very much my dilemma too. One thing to consider is the connection between the rack unit and the pedal. Have Line6 gone for something a bit more robust that the standard Cat5e cable with RJ45 connectors that they used previously? IME these are simply not robust enough to be used in a gigging situation. At one rehearsal and a couple of gigs a week I was getting through a cable every 2-3 months, whereas all my (OBBM) signal cables are still going strong after 6 years of constant use and abuse. In the end I had a couple of special coilable Van Damme Cat5e cables made up with extra robust shrouding on the plugs to protect the locking mechanism (one that breaks the cables are virtually useless), and even so they are getting close to needing to be replaced after 2 years of intensive gigging.
That's what I like about the Axe FX. It has that Links feature. So you just run a standard XLR cable to the board. No messing.
5. I've considered getting the rack version. The pros to me are: If the footcontroller breaks it's cheaper to replace. No long signal cable (wireless) just the cable to the controller. Cons: Can't fly it. Doesn't have an expression pedal built in. Initial cost is higher. It's a tough one.
6. That is just wild. Haha
7.
Won't that mainly be: (a) A Helix on the floor; or ( A Helix in a rack?
Well it could be. But I want to see what people add into the loops. Maybe a pedal you just can't be without.
8. Has anyone seen the RJM midi controllers? Oh man they are sweet.
9. Let's see what you use with it and whether you've gone rack or floor version.
10.
If you get one, make sure you do the firmware update as soon as you get it. If it's been in a shop for a little while it may well be out of date, and the updates are certainly worth having before you get stuck in saving patches. Join the facebook Helix Users Group too - loads of advice on there.
Good advice! Cheers
11. So I'm going to buy a Line 6 Helix. I'm selling these pedals and a PSU. All have boxes. Darkglass Vintage Ultra £300 Darkglass Super Symmetry £220 Red Witch Zeus £200 MXR Bass Chorus Deluxe £120 SOLD CIOKS DC10 £120 SOLD Would straight swap for a Helix or FX8
12. Think I'm going Helix. Probably end up using a Soure Audio Aftershock for dirt at some point. I did email SA with the idea of an aftershock deluxe. Two channels per preset in a Nemesis sized box with midi.
13. Awesome pedal. From just octaves to mental gated fuzz and everything in between. Would swap for a Source Audio Aftershock with cash my way.
14.
IMHO They are all too expensive!! B
Why?
15. https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/realworldworship.org/2014/02/25/the-people-vs-jhs-pedals/amp/ Interesting read
16.
The Helix "seems" to be more popular amongst bass players. However, that may be because you can't seem to find any Axe units in the UK to trial!
That's a good point
17. I really know something like this will benefit me. As much as I like to be limited I like a lot a variations of the same things. Like fuzz, delay, reverbs etc. I'm just after opinions. Also with the midi I'm guessing it could change the presets on my Novation Bass Station?
18. I was thinking about using one of those sheet music stands that clamp onto a mic stand. Pros are that I won't have to carry a big stand around. Cons are I probably won't be able to have my pedalboard in front of it and I need it there. Any recommendations?
19.
Play the biggest set you feel comfortable with. Currently I've got 43 - 136 flats on my 5 string P bass and 45 - 130 rounds on the others. OK I don't slap or bend strings, but if you don't either go as big as you can. My experience, with my style, I usually get a better sound out of bigger strings.
I was thinking about 110-50 I'll go for that.
20. Just out of interest really. What gauge do you use for E flat standard and drop C#? I play mostly in C# I'm thinking of .110-.045.
21. Trying scoring with a Stanley knife.
22. You're not in the band. Band members always have president. Even if it was a day before the show.
23. Well for me. I was learning drums at about 12 yo. Then my little sister came along and they were just too noisy for a new born. My dad played bass and he just started teaching me Motown lines and I sold my drums and bought a Fender cowpoke.
24. June 2 - Le Pub, Newport supporting Holding Absence. tickets here June 3 - Camden Rocks, London. tickets here
25. So we've got a Lemmy which is class. We've got a Duff McKegen which is also class. But I want THE bassist of doom Jaco P! I've tweeted Funko and spot to someone who deals with them and he said that's the way to go. So if you want one get tweeting! @originalfunko
