1. My VBA was great, immense amounts of everything, bass, treble, mid, volume. They seem to be a good deal on prices. Sadly it also had immense mass and I had sciatica so it had to go. I miss it.
2. Cheap basses - warwick Rockbass Corvettes, I scored mine at £150 - gives you change for good hardcase. Friend's duaghter has yamaha rbx170? cheapest yamaha bass, it is very good.
3. So what sort of money are we talking?
4. Did you buy it? I had 7215 ? a 2x15 cab, http://www.marshallamps.com/archive/7400cabinets.html a great thing but heavy. Well built, British Engineering at it's most solid.
5. Are those BFM steampunk Omnis ?
6. Lightweight could be good, is it a neck diver would be my concern, are the originals?
7. Great fun, now where is that £40 peavey milestone 3 I have somewhere. Honey I'm home .........................
8. AFAIK the ferrules should be a tight (interference) fit so that they do not pull out. Seems to be no harm pulling them out (gently) if they are lifting out and glueing in. PVA woodwork glue?
9. Peavey Tour 700, excellent, 500W at 8 ohms, all useful features present and naff octaver. Just bought one, v little use, £200. Reasonable weight. Firebass 700, good as well but heavy.
10. Amps and cabs move on, they get better and better - I regret selling Hiwatts (100, 200) in early 80s, but other than that my ampage is way better than ever. Guitars / basses are a personal thing. How good is the bass? is it a dream to play? does it have any special value? then go and compare with what is available. My G&L SB1 is a great bass, but the Chinese rockbasses are every bit as good and are crazy cheap s/h. I will keep the G&L for sentimental reasons (22+ year with me) and rarity - unlikely to get another one.
11.
Im tempted by the Dubster....how limited in its application is it 3below?
Apols on slow reply, Dubster is just great. I have used with my USA basses TI flats, and cheapy Rockbass with roundwounds. No shortage of hi frequency for my tastes, does not seem much different to Big One (and I know my high frequency hearing is still pretty good). Where the Dubster scores is the sheer volume, noticeably louder with my Peavey 700 compared to Big One. The low frequency response is just something else. Best cab I have ever owned, Big one is second best.
12. It is the age old caveat emptor, try before you buy, and try in anger at gig volumes. Then again 4 x KT88 or 6 x EL34 has never disappointed me over the years. YMMV.
13. The public liability issues seem quite amazing in the new world order we live in. So much so I wonder should I have liability insurance for a trip to the pub with my other half. Would be a terrible shame if she left her handbag by a chair and someone then tripped over it - claim coming on I guess
14. Have never tried German or Korean models. My two are Chinese made, the quality is staggeringly good, every bit as good as my USA basses (or any I have owned). They were also incredible bargains s/h. I would not hesitate to own another Chinese built one.
15. Enjoy the Big One, it is a great cab. Despite having a Dubster I am having an equivalent built since it is such a good cab, only reason I changed was the Dubster was too good to miss. Feed your Big one plenty of Watts, it thrives on them.
16. Not in Cardiff, but Mid Wales, welcome to visit and try. On my 2nd cab now, can fully endorse.
17. Bump, as I know this was my cab until recently. It is a great bass cab, clarity, loudness, hifi or grind and good dispersion, you will hear from wide angles across stage. Trouser flapping volume. One hand pick up, the wheels are just super (apart from off road lol). Once you have tried a BF cab you will not go back to anything lesser. The final bonus is, buy this one, build yourself a second sub (identical) - destroy buildings. It is great cab, you will not be disappointed.
18. 39 mins and not sold, must be a recession.
19. I can fully recommend Peavey, Tour 700 is such an underrated amp. The sub octave thing is irrelevant in my opinion but rest of amp excellent. You also get 500W into 8 ohms, a bonus. I like them so much I have bought second one from this forum. There is one FS at the moment £225. Leaves you a good amount to purchase used Barefaced Cab if you get lucky or build own fEARful cab.
20. Fearful 15/15/66 combined with Crown XTi 6000 or QSC of similar power. Adequate clean headroom. Pre amp to taste.
21. As above seek help/advice. Small, tricky to tune, and I could never manage intonation let alone good sound (dead cats). I admire those who can, immensely,
22. Until you get band with big PA you need plenty of Watts and sensitive speakers. As mentioned before Peavey kit good value, I sold 300W bass combo for £130, fair tone, heavy though. In my current band, vocal pa only, guitars 20W combos, 700W peavey tour and barefaced Dubster is adequate. Peavey Tours on here for good money, then save for good cab or build own. Spend once, not many times. Have fun.
23. There is a Webber Mywatt 200 FS somewhere on here in last week or so. Unless it has gone, what more could a bass player need (apart from mass reduction).
24. Keep us posted what happens on this one, hope it all works out ok.
