Most gigs with a bass player on a 15 will have that typical sound..and it may not be that good...will struggle to keep focus..will put out decent volume or more but will be too unsutble when the bass is being pushed
Those using Barefaced Big One 15 + 6.5 mid range or Greenboy 15/6 fEARful designs would probably disagree. I find the two 15s in Barefaced Dubster just amazing, clarity, subtlety and detail. The best bit is it maintains from quiet to ground shaking volume. As ever with all things speaker, try them, and then try at the volume you will be using.

DIY then (destroy it yourself lol) .. plenty of clamps, scrap wood and thin superglue or woodwork glue. Luthier who fixed small crack in heel of my Kramer used superglue. Try clamping methods before using the glue. Clean glue as it squeezes out. Good luck. As above, should not be an expensive repair, seek advice. Guitar player in band bought 335 with broken headstock, had repair done, it is invisible and was excellent value.

Did my 77 P bass in about 1979, what a b'stard to do, under the sunburst was some sort of polyurethane? filler, clear and rock hard (fullerplast?) However the wood was stunning when stripped. Amazingly (IMO) I got a really good finish afterwards even though DIY. Bass had bad accident later, broken neck, sold bits and was quids in. For 70s Fender, was well built but not great setup. Once sorted, no complaints.

What guitar amp for people who do not know how to work things
I believe that science courses have more funding than arts courses due to the higher costs involved. There is wear and tear on kit in all disciplines. I am not happy about it. That is why I am looking for more robust replacements.
As a teacher and Physicist.... I have sympathy for both viewpoints, real world science is expensive, kit is not cheap. If you think amps are expensive try kitting out laboratories for science at GCSE and A level, never mind degree courses and higher. Arts courses, such as music are also expensive if they use kit. Sadly we are in very frugal times. -
Whatever I play through sounds like me playing my Streamer ...doesn't matter if it's my mates monster vintage Ampeg rig, a green Trace or a random 1 by 12 combo...it's just a matter of getting it flat and killing the room resonances...
My experience is the same, and does not seem to matter what bass I use either. Old school band, pa for vocals only, 15W guitar amps, loud, and hard hitting drummer. I just like bass amp and cab that lets me feel the bass and has the reserve for big or small venues. Even if we had 'big' pa I would still want the 'trouser flap' feel the bass effect.

Inspirational, am off to the shed... get some wood... to cut lolx A super bass, you should be well pleased.

Not wishing to waste 5 mins of my valuable time, does it contain slap bass -
Who says 50 is old git threshold? is just start of life.... trust me

My telecaster was pale white, is now a nice banana custard yellow / brown. Only problem is 25 years time and plenty of sunlight UV may well work.

As many above state... Precision, lead, amp, cab. Could always try and find the Marshall 4x15 that is on the cover of 'The early years'? One came up on here a few years ago. If you are really keen Telecaster bass with the big neck humbucker. A great band to be in

Plenty of Mwahh (by my standards) with TI flats on my fretless. YMMV

Had the Black Widow 15 on my Peavey bass combo fail, farty noises was correct description. Being 25+ yrs old the glue that held the cone to the frame had failed. You might get lucky and find that this is the same problem. Copydex, care, clamps and a wood batten are your friends.
And another thing: the OP says the pad made a large difference when playing on a concrete floor. I have no doubt he believes it did, but perhaps someone could explain to me how the airborne vibrations from the bottom of a cabinet could cause several tons of hard, poured concrete to audibly resonate.
Barefaced Dubster, 4 ohms, Peavey Tour 700 700W @ 4 ohms, large school hall, and yes the concrete floor can be made to vibrate In another context, modern concrete floors floated on insulation board will vibrate, try jumping on one, you can feel the movement. Resonance ???, maybe in a spare 5 mins I will do the maths of Chladni plates with constrained boundaries, then again red wine is calling.

'String proper' around machine head has never caused any problems on my basses, is the gauge on these larger than previous etc, just thinking 'nut' problem? especially since I have struggled to sort out a Yamaha BB which turns out to be nut problem.

Just noticed price..... should be able to get for less times are hard

Had Peavey MKIII bass combo for about 25 yrs (I think), reliable 100%, heavy, I thought sound was pretty reasonable with Precision, Rickenbacker and finally G&L. Later had 300 combo.... loud and heavy. Seem very cheap for what you get. As ever try before you buy. [edit for spelling]
