1. Welcome from Wales from someone who nearly escaped to Tiree!
2. If the truss is still rattling there is a possible fix. It (from memory) is something along lines of remove 9th fret marker dot. Drill small hole that reaches truss rod. Inject runny PVA into the hole. Something like this http://www.frets.com/FretsPages/Luthier/Technique/Setup/BuzzDiagnosis/TrussRod/trussrod.html
3.
You might not use Facebook when applying for a job with a band, but if they have your name there's nothing stopping them from checking your Facebook page if you have one. Blue
Some of us do not use FB, Twittter or any form of social media. This is a consequence of the day job where such things are inadvisable at best and career limiting at worst.
4.
SMV SMV was a bass guitar supergroup formed in 2008. The group's name comes from the first initials of each of its members, Stanley Clarke, Marcus Miller, and Victor Wooten. The collaboration gained momentum when the three first played together at a concert held by Bass Player magazine in New York City in 2006, where Miller and Wooten joined on stage to present Clarke with the magazine's Lifetime Achievement Award. SMV's debut album, Thunder, was released on August 12, 2008, with a supporting world tour beginning the same month. - from Wikipedia [s]...If I can remember where it is I have a clip of an 11 piece line up of bassists, stand by[/s] @ 3below, I can't see why not
Is it called a 'bass bash'
5. I am left wondering if we can start a band of 50+ (age and number) massed (aka overweight) bass players. Not sure about the commercial viability but we can rehearse (prior to the hearse) and enjoy the music
6. Someone got the bargain of a lifetime....
7. Plan C: Cut the neck / body parallel to the strings so that you have the equivalent of a 'neck through' . Construct new upper and lower body wings of your desired shape and glue them to the 'through neck'. This method keeps the neck alignment and will be easier than extracting the neck. ( Not seeing the cracks clearly, I am aware this plan might not work).
8. SB1 in my possession for 25 ~ 26 years. Why: Build quality, MFD pickup tone, just stays in tune and, at the time of purchase G&L were relatively unknown and thus excellent value.
9. Gibson EB2 - which I had in my youth. Now just too costly for what they will do, other better priced alternatives are available and I clearly remember why I moved it on. Now if an EB2D appeared at the right price ........ Hiwatt 200 - which I had in my youth. Now just too heavy......
10. Super quality work as always. How do you rate the Veritas pullshave? It looks really useful and I can envisage archtop carving with it.
11. Ebay? And see what you get?
12. Lovely looking bass of that era. Have always wondered how much of a 'neck diver'. Price is a bit strong for me to take a 'punt'
13. You are left wondering why a certain USA major guitar manufacturing company does not produce items of this quality and appearance (unless they have passed me by). Someone on BC should be getting 'head hunted' by the aforesaid USA guitar company .
14.
It's funny, some items are way cheaper than over here and some are way more expensive. Same goes for Thomann. I've also ordered items MADE IN THE UK from bikeparts.de for 60% of the typical UK price!
Slightly off topic but +1 on bikeparts.de, particularly for tyres.
15. Which Marshall? In my youth I used a Marshall !00W valve amp, non master volume for bass. No problem. I preferred my subsequent Hiwatt custom 100 though. 100W head into headphones will require careful use of the volume controls. I often use an open back guitar combo for low volume bass, can get some nice tones as well.
16.
I look like a "tool" in my bands videos. While playing I thought my moves looked cool. When I saw the video, I looked like an old guy humping an invisible bear. Blue
Is there problem with this
17. PCB jack sockets can go faulty. Fender 'red knob' amps suffer from this with little use. Sadly replacement my not be simple.
18. Have a good look at the for sale forum in this parish. You will be surprised at what is about for the money.
19. Do you have the amp in a rack case? If so, loop the cable around and through the case handle. Cable not in contact with cab, any pull / tug from bass will be on the handle rather than removing from socket. If not in a case your temp cure may be the simplest long term. If you are really determined it may be possible to bend / tweak the jack socket inside the amp so that the tip is gripped more firmly.
20.
3.5mm ??? You could get an iPhone in there. Each to their own I guess.
Heavy right hand technique combined with TI flats. iPhone, complete mac airbook surely
21.
I had thought of fully enclosed. Chris from Smoothound offered to send (sell) me the bare electronics for this along with wiring diagrams and a surface mount momentary switch with status Led. However I do prefer what Andy has illustrated, which is what I had in mind from the outset. I made a similar recess for the jack socket on the twin neck version. Having said all that I really do appreciate all input and suggestions / ideas etc. Also I am beginning to feel like an expectant father to be. Just like when my kids were gestating.
Another great bass in inception. Thank you for appreciation, my life philosophy is 'more brains prevent mistakes'.... assuming we have people with brains I have valued input and suggestions in my bass build as well.
22. The on/off issue with the fully enclosed design could be resolved by having a hole in the cover plate. The Mk1 finger could be inserted into the hole. Not elegant but it would retain the 'traditional' bass appearance. The 'slot in side' design will be ergonomically easier to use: strap bass on, reach and press on/off button. Developing this thought further (and helped by Andy's pictures), the unit could be fitted in the top /forearm section of the bass - like the tuner / eq units on electro-acoustic basses. Second jack socket fitted to body in usual place.
23.
Being totally enclosed would make it a bit difficult to switch on and off. The Smoothound symbol on the transmitter is the switch.
Design flaw on my part noted, I am not experienced in this 'new-fangled' wireless stuff. In my mind I had simply thought 'plug and play' doh!
24. Where has the bass been? In car overnight, colder room, warmer room etc, anywhere different to usual? Climate changes can cause issues especially if your bass is adjusted to a super low action. I just use 3.5mm (or more) action at 12th fret, cures 99% of issues dead
