1. Ebay? And see what you get?
2. Lovely looking bass of that era. Have always wondered how much of a 'neck diver'. Price is a bit strong for me to take a 'punt'
3. You are left wondering why a certain USA major guitar manufacturing company does not produce items of this quality and appearance (unless they have passed me by). Someone on BC should be getting 'head hunted' by the aforesaid USA guitar company .
4.
It's funny, some items are way cheaper than over here and some are way more expensive. Same goes for Thomann. I've also ordered items MADE IN THE UK from bikeparts.de for 60% of the typical UK price!
Slightly off topic but +1 on bikeparts.de, particularly for tyres.
5. Which Marshall? In my youth I used a Marshall !00W valve amp, non master volume for bass. No problem. I preferred my subsequent Hiwatt custom 100 though. 100W head into headphones will require careful use of the volume controls. I often use an open back guitar combo for low volume bass, can get some nice tones as well.
6.
I look like a "tool" in my bands videos. While playing I thought my moves looked cool. When I saw the video, I looked like an old guy humping an invisible bear. Blue
Is there problem with this
7. PCB jack sockets can go faulty. Fender 'red knob' amps suffer from this with little use. Sadly replacement my not be simple.
8. Have a good look at the for sale forum in this parish. You will be surprised at what is about for the money.
9. Do you have the amp in a rack case? If so, loop the cable around and through the case handle. Cable not in contact with cab, any pull / tug from bass will be on the handle rather than removing from socket. If not in a case your temp cure may be the simplest long term. If you are really determined it may be possible to bend / tweak the jack socket inside the amp so that the tip is gripped more firmly.
10.
3.5mm ??? You could get an iPhone in there. Each to their own I guess.
Heavy right hand technique combined with TI flats. iPhone, complete mac airbook surely
11.
I had thought of fully enclosed. Chris from Smoothound offered to send (sell) me the bare electronics for this along with wiring diagrams and a surface mount momentary switch with status Led. However I do prefer what Andy has illustrated, which is what I had in mind from the outset. I made a similar recess for the jack socket on the twin neck version. Having said all that I really do appreciate all input and suggestions / ideas etc. Also I am beginning to feel like an expectant father to be. Just like when my kids were gestating.
Another great bass in inception. Thank you for appreciation, my life philosophy is 'more brains prevent mistakes'.... assuming we have people with brains I have valued input and suggestions in my bass build as well.
12. The on/off issue with the fully enclosed design could be resolved by having a hole in the cover plate. The Mk1 finger could be inserted into the hole. Not elegant but it would retain the 'traditional' bass appearance. The 'slot in side' design will be ergonomically easier to use: strap bass on, reach and press on/off button. Developing this thought further (and helped by Andy's pictures), the unit could be fitted in the top /forearm section of the bass - like the tuner / eq units on electro-acoustic basses. Second jack socket fitted to body in usual place.
13.
Being totally enclosed would make it a bit difficult to switch on and off. The Smoothound symbol on the transmitter is the switch.
Design flaw on my part noted, I am not experienced in this 'new-fangled' wireless stuff. In my mind I had simply thought 'plug and play' doh!
14. Where has the bass been? In car overnight, colder room, warmer room etc, anywhere different to usual? Climate changes can cause issues especially if your bass is adjusted to a super low action. I just use 3.5mm (or more) action at 12th fret, cures 99% of issues dead
15. Gelfin, your 'sketch;'powers are better than mine. My variant was totally enclosed inside the body with a second jack socket to the outside world. Sketches have been pmd to Andy.
16. Combo with plate amp would be my way forward. As an end user I could the use Sansamp, Alembic, Behringer, Zoom, Pod etc etc in whatever flavour I fancied. Combos have a likeable simplicity, I carry my bass case in one hand, combo in the other. Remove bass and lead, plug in and play. I currently use a bass head (middleweight) with BF cab and realise that it is not much more effort really
17.
A sketch would be great
Winder why lol.
18. Some skilled fingerboard recess routing up ahead I know the feeling about the wimpy scroll saw and band saw. WRT the radio transmitter, could it fit into an internal recess combined with a second internal jack socket. The best way I can describe (without sorting a sketch to upload) is: Imagine a telecaster type control rout, wide and long enough for the radio transmitter. At the 'pickup switch' end of the cavity drill / rout a blind 12mm hole / channel for a jack socket- this is going further into the body, parallel to the body, heading towards the lower bout. Fit the jack socket to the 'blind' hole with parallel wiring to the 'regular' cable type jack socket. Cover the whole arrangement with the rear control plate. The transmitter should work through the 10~ 15 mm of front body timber, an experiment many be needed. Andy if the description makes no sense I will sketch for you.
19. As suggested by BigRedX wind the micro tilt in and shim with something with a bit of friction e.g. thin cork. In addition you could shim the side of the neck into the pocket, aluminum foil, ptfe sheet, wood veneer. I seem to remember this being a fairly standard procedure in the late 70s early 80s. My 1977 4 bolt P bass was sufficiently misaligned that I wrote to Fender UK - I got a pleasant reply and manual, problem sorted.
20. Enjoy the different phases, as stated above it goes very fast. In what seems no time at all you will end up with a grown up an wonder where did the time go.
21.
I'm trying to practice DB and have a wonderful and resonant old beast on my music room (I'm lucky enough to have one, for how long I'm not sure). Anyway, my new baby is making practice difficult. I've just seen an NS NXT 4 with all the add ons for sale. I'm still very much in the formative stages for my technique and am making good progress. Should I play less but fo is solely on DB (theory j can work at on the electric) or should I invest in an EUB? Apologies if this has been asked before, I searched but it was mostly asked by beginners which I guess I'm not.
Schaller magnetic pickup, 2x15 or 8x10 with 500W plus amplifier should be adequate to overcome any new baby noises In all seriousness what is the exact problem.. New born baby being woken by db? 'New baby' is the db and physical hand effort is tiring?
22.
How does kit get in such a state??? Look at this on eBay http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282262477697
Has the makings of a novel. what has that cab seen and how it got to that state Depending what the cab is made from (Baltic birch or mdf) it might be a good starting point for a DIY cab considering the cost of quality plywood.
23.
It's OK....I'll be finish sanding it with the stubble of my chin
For a finer finish send bass to me and I will use my beard after your stubble
24. Lovely looking wood Surely pre-slotted is cheating. As BC builds develop I would be expecting tree felling at the least, and following the example of Paul Sellers (who I find inspirational about hand tools) filing your own saw blades.
25. Sound Control Glasgow 1990/91, USA telecaster on my part (which I still have). Great guitar, really good price, excellent service above and beyond. No wonder they went out of business
